whoops lost myself for about eight years there

hiked up Arabia mountain this morning, picked some flowers, and journaled on a giant rock

went solo on a 5 (thought it was 6) mile hike through the palisades, and ran into a few kind strangers. I ended up meeting and following two brothers who took me to this beautiful cliff that overlooked the river, I now have a big rock to meditate on. Thank god for AllTrails and a compass, I got spooked when I watched a coyote run past me.

I’m pushing past my arthritis and getting back outside, trying to move to an 8 mile hike next time. I finished a 7 mile hike a while back and my legs had a really difficult time pushing on after mile 5. I’m feeling accomplished considering I got to 5 and felt pretty ok about it, the massive incline I chose to take was exhausting - many pep talks were had. I want to get up to 10 by the end of October, 12 by November, and hike the beginning of the Appalachian trail during the cold December mornings. The head of the AT is at the entrance of Amicalola and she’s a beauty!

Our school sits in front of a sunny and golden forest that’s full of plants, wildlife, and adventure. Lately, my class has been able to venture outside on small adventures to focus on sustainability, ecosystem sciences, and microbiology. They’re able to question and hypothesize, understand, and replicate what they’re learning alongside a teacher/independently. The hot question of the moment is: “why do bad guys litter, and why don’t they throw it away when they’re done?”

Which leads us to, if four year olds can understand the concept of littering, why can’t most human beings? Thankfully, we were able to scrap and clean some of the items to use as loose parts and open ended materials.* everything pictured was found by our students within a span of 20 minutes on the trail.
