Stanford Sierra Camp! Fallen Leaf Lake was absolutely beautiful after a day of climbing.
The only thing scarier than sneezing while driving is sneezing while biking.
Meet my bike Demeter! She's named after the Greek goddess of the harvest and compassion. What better name for a bike that will take me across 2 mountain ranges, plains, swamps and hill country to raise awareness and end stigma against the HIV/AIDS pandemic?
Thank you to Houston Cycling Centres for sponsoring my bike purchases for the Ride Against AIDS!
Needless to say, I acquired a few bumps and bruises practicing clipping in. With the ride being less than two months away, it's all becoming so real!
Today I rode 40 miles @ 15 mph.
Next challenge: 60 mile ride in Marble Falls ;)

The Ride Against AIDS is a unique and powerful cross-country bike ride dedicated to supporting the work of FACE AIDS and Partners In Health while igniting conversations in communities across the country about the HIV pandemic.
My name is Lesley and I am graduating from the University of Texas in one month with a degree in Health Promotion. To kick start my transition into young adulthood, I decided to dedicate my summer to engaging students, communities and organizations that FACE AIDS is normally unable to reach.
Growing up in Texas, I have personally experienced the social and economic consequences of political inaction. I have lost loved ones to HIV/AIDS in the late 90’s that could have been spared if there was greater access to information regarding treatment and the spread of the epidemic. I joined FACE AIDS, a non-profit student run organization that mobilizes students in the fight to end AIDS, my sophomore year of college at the University of Texas, Austin. Working on a cause so close to my heart showed me the power of youth movements and the importance of peer-education. As the Events Coordinator for FACE AIDS I have been given the opportunity to transform my passion into successful advocacy. Awareness is the backbone of any social movement and it is the key to ignite and mobilize change.
