          a soft smile is on her features.     by night, she’s been up around gotham, getting into all sorts of trouble.      by day though   …    she’s been messily sitting in the wayne library, tending to it.     at this point, the building holds as much as her soul as it does martha wayne’s, she thinks.    the question bruce asks her when he stops by   (   as he usually does   )   is much more than their normal flirty banter.    dinner?   as in… a date?   “   —   hm?   dinner?   sounds like you’re trying to distract me from another night out on the town, mister wayne.  ”     it’s a joke.   she’s confided in bruce about where she goes at night.     “  but   …   lucky for you   …    i’m starving,   &   you’re way more interesting than anything intergang has to offer.   ”

❛ Yes, as in a date, Miss Russo. ❜    Bruce knows she’s teasing him, but it is endearing when it comes from her –– and only her.    ❛ If that’s what it takes to keep you out of trouble. ❜    And there he is, serving it right back to her. Bantering with Sam came easy, even for someone who was very rusty on the banter. Of course he’s relieved when she says yes; lucky him indeed. With a smile and a nod, he extends an arm to her. She’d been working all day, as had he, and he figured a more low-key location might serve their interests better. Less stress, no flashy outfits – a place where they could simply be themselves, with each other.

     she’s pulling her earrings off  & setting them on the vanity.    they’ve both been gone most of the night at a gala.    one of the only nights this week where they play sam russo & bruce wayne:    the world’s most watched couple.    no, the rest of the week has been batman & the reporter who seems to keep ending up nearby.     but now, they just get to be each other.   “  my feet are killing me. tell me to remind valentina to give me a break on the heels. maybe i really am just meant to be like two feet shorter than you.  ”

❛ You know Valentina loves flashy heels. But I’ll remind you. ❜    Bruce speaks over his shoulder as he takes his tuxedo off piece by piece, leaving his now slightly unbuttoned dress shirt. As soon as he feels like he can breathe again – which is saying a lot, coming from someone who runs around Gotham dressed as a bat every night – he heads back over to Sam, placing his hands on her shoulders and giving them comforting squeezes as she removes her jewelry at the vanity. He lets out a soft chuckle as she comments on their heights, and he takes that as an opportunity to lean down and press a few kisses to the side of her neck. 

❛ You can’t mess with the natural order of things. ❜    Another hilarious statement, all considering. He pauses for a few moments to look at Sam through the mirror, a smirk touching his lips as her eyes find his looking right at her.    ❛ No, go on. ❜    He urges her to go about her process, simply enjoying basking in her presence. Still, even as he watches her, the evening remains in the back of his mind. After all, this was their last gala before their Christmas gala, also known as... the most stressful of them all to plan. 

❛ It was a smart move to do the Thanksgiving gala early. ❜    Kudos to Sam.    ❛ Alfred told me this is the most donations we’ve received in years. ❜
