their current relationship was certainly indescribable.
bitna was not one to get affected by labels, or the lack of it, however when anyone asked how things were with jumie, all bitna could answer was that things were going pretty okay.
that was not so bad considering that had an ultimately positive note compared to what she would tell people whenever jumie was brought up in conversation. those days were all behind them now, and bitna was glad they had somehow managed to patch things up. she loved jumie. she would always love jumie. differently, yes, but her positive sentiments were there.
for the last few weeks, they had been hanging out more again, talking casually, and even chatting publicly on social media to prove that bitna had no lingering feelings of bitterness towards jumie. although, bitna was still scared to touch her – a simple brush of their hands, graze of their shoulders sent bitna into a slight state of panic. maybe it was from trauma, maybe she was just worried. whatever it was, bitna decided that that was going to change.
I want the K
18: Underwater Kiss sxgu
was it sketchy for bitna to ask natasha to head out to the beach for a swim? will natasha think she only did it to see her half-naked body exposed? what will she do if the girl did agree? there were a hundred thoughts per minute running through bitna’s head after she sent a simple text asking natasha if she wanted to go for a swim, considering it was summer, and the temperature had just started to rise to the point that bitna had given up most of her dresses for high-waist shorts.
it was nerve-wracking to wait for a reply, especially since bitna had a not-so-secret little crush on natasha but who would not, right?
when natasha finally replied – after ten minutes, but it felt like forever in this heat, and bitna was not sure if she was sweating from it or from complete anxiety – it took bitna a few minutes before she stopped pacing and decided to pick up her phone, and read the text. she breathed a sigh of relief when the other girl said yes, and bitna scolded herself mentally because what else was natasha going to say? as long as bitna was not so blatant about her inner affections toward the girl, it was going to be fine.
bitna was going to be subtle.
⊱`⇢ ★ past.future / khn x cbn
once dressed and ready, she tried to find out where exactly to meet the other. the feeling of anxiousness was creeping up on her the more she realized that this was real and she was really going to do this. just because her mother told her. but she had to be honest with herself as well. she was curious about bitna. she was curious about the girl and wanted to make up for the time she didn’t get to be the friend she promised to be.
she remembered how the other had saved her from getting lost due to her poor sense of direction. she remembered how they would always stick around each other and how, more than haena helped her, she had helped haena realized a few things. as she was walking out of the freshman doors, she let her mind wander back to the times she remembered being around her. the smiles and laughs they shared and how simple it was. the kiss made her steer away from the other because it felt weird and she didn’t know any better. maybe she could make it all better? surely she can…right?
before she did meet her however, haena tried to think of what to bring for the other. she wasn’t sure if she could trust her memory since it always failed her somehow. but she did remember that the other liked flowers and they would spend spring running around her house’s backyard, asking her mother for some. and even when she didn’t let them do so she would secretly take some, put them in a plastic cup and run all the way to bitna’s house to place it on her kitchen table with a small note. a sigh slipped past her lips as she passed by the flower shop, trying to pick something that would suit the other’s taste. not that she was an expert in the area since it has been a while since they even said hello…
she decided to call her mom at this point. yay for being independent.
“mom. did you forget to forward me her number or are you trying to make this like a treasure hunt?” she asked, sitting on the bench just beside the shop.
she could hear her mother’s laughter and could hear her talking to bitna’s mother. “oh, i’m sorry, dear. i thought you’d be able to ask some of your upperclassmen for her. i’ll forward it to you soon!”
with that, she ended the call and waited patiently for her mother to send her bitna’s number. ten minutes. fifteen minutes. thirty and forty minutes. and there, her phone vibrated. she sat up and hesitated to call at first. “hi, i’m the girl you kissed before and i’m not sure if you kissed other girls but i’m the one you kissed back when were in kindergarten. unless there were others. but yeah, hi.” haena closed her eyes and immediately slapped her cheeks with both hands. before she realized it however, she had already pressed the call button. she only reacted when she heard the ringing sound and it was far too late to end the call.
“oh god–” she said out loud, staring at her phone’s screen in horror.
before bitna headed into the bathroom to take a shower to get ready to leave (for lunch, maybe; she would think about it on the way), she managed to save the number her mother had sent her just a little while ago. she bit the inside of her cheek as she stared at the contact details, finally deciding to simply save it under the name honey.
“hot date?” a roommate asked, and bitna looked up at her dumbly. the roommate had to gesture toward the phone in her hand before bitna realized she had been staring at it for far too long.
“i’m not sure,” bitna replied, which sounded like a joke, but was mostly true, due to the fact that she really was not certain how her childhood friend looked like now. it did not pass through her mind to add haena on facebook, or any other social media site before, and just rightfully so. they had not spoken in ages, and the fact that bitna did not even remember haena’s real name -- the childhood nickname she gave her having had stuck in her head instead -- it would be a bigger dilemma to look for her online.
her roommate laughed before walking past her, rummaging through one of the drawers as bitna sat on the edge of her bed with her phone clutched in her hand. you think this is funny? she thought, scowling at the other girl, only to quickly transform into a happy bundle when her roommate turned back to her again, and walked out.
bitna threw her phone behind her, letting it bounce on the back, and she got up. a quick (not really) shower later, she was all squeaky clean, and ready to wander about. for reasons unknown, bitna decided to dress cutely that day, thinking how stupid it was since meeting haena that day seemed pretty unlikely. but who knew, right? she could bump into another pretty girl instead. that’s it.
just as bitna finished putting on mascara, she head her phone vibrating on the mattress, screen lighting up. craning her head to see who it was, if it was important enough to answer, the name lighting up made her eyes widen, and she practically stumbled back toward her bed. it took a few more rings before bitna had the heart rate to answer without sounding like her voice was shaking.
“hello?” she began, shutting her eyes, and grimacing. ah, crap. she tried to sound formal, sophisticated. “bitna speaking.”

Hello Hello ➵ Chaerin&Bitna
Chaerin gulped and slowly went to go sit down on the padded floor, doing so in front of the door where Bitna had just been. She kept her distance, not because she was afraid of the girl but because maybe the girl was afraid of her. The last thing she wanted is an attack.
Looking over the girl once more, she felt bad that Bitna had to be kept in her outside clothes. She knew if she tried to help in anyway, she would most definitely be caught so she simply stayed where she was.
A small smile made its way onto her lips. "Bitna, what a pretty name. My name is Chaerin. Kwon Chaerin. It’s nice to meet you.” She said with a start. Chae didn’t really plan all too well, but did have few questions for the girl. Now that she was there, Chaerin forgot them all.
“No, No. I don’t work here. A-Actually, the same thing that happened to you happened to me. I mean, I wasn’t thrown in this exact cell but similar.” She sighed, tilting her head a bit as she observed the girl and her reactions. “I mostly just wanted to see if you were alright. I know I wasn’t. And don’t worry, you’ll be out of here soon. Just comply with what they say and you should be moved to an actual room later.” Chae nodded, smiling at the girl with a small laugh.
Soon after she felt silent and began to pick at her clothes. Suddenly feeling sad, abandoned. She would have liked for someone to greet her when she was thrown in here. That would have been because in the coming days, not one person of her past would come and greet her; friends, family. No one.
A pained expression flashed across her face, she clenched her fist and felt the dreaded tightening of her chest. She felt like she couldn’t breath, tears would be soon to follow but Chaerin tried hard to stop them.
It was strange for her to be so open towards the newcomer, but maybe she could blame it on her lack of outside interaction.
She wasn’t there for Bitna, she was there for herself.
She was there because she was desperate for a friend.
bitna’s stance was defensive as she sat, vulnerable, in the middle of the room. her eyes were wide with a mix suspicion, fear, and curiosity. when the other girl confirmed she was indeed just a patient, bitna found her shoulders relaxing slightly -- just enough that if the other tried anything, she could still push herself up and make a run for it, regardless of the fact that the feeling in her legs had just started to come back.
“chaerin...” she let the name adjust on her tongue, liking the sound of it. “hi.” although bitna’s tone was blatantly hesitant, she was quite glad, for the lack of a better word, that she had company, even for just awhile. she was unsure how long they would keep her locked up. the last time she exploded, her family managed to keep it at bay, much like the first few times. then, she had threatened to hurt herself, but did not actually do it -- until recently. bitna felt a sting when she pressed her hand onto the floor, leaving an odd crimson stain where her hand had been. she remembered the feeling of the shard digging into her hand, refusing to let go.
“did they hurt you?” bitna managed to ask, voice raspy. she adjusted her position on the floor, slowly and painfully tucking both her legs to one side. “do you know when you’re going home?” the questions may seem too personal, but chaerin was the only person, like she said, who probably understood her, who underwent the same thing, who knew the answers.
with a soft, albeit sheepish chuckle, bitna added, “you’ll get in trouble for being here, won’t you? i... really don’t want you to go. but i don’t want you getting in trouble, either.”
bitna patted her dress in an attempt to smooth it out, her attempts turning out to be futile. it did not really matter, though, did it? no one in this place would care if she looked like a mess. they all were a mess, one way or another.
that was why they were here in the first place.
locked up from the rest of the world.
until deemed proper, functioning human beings.
“chaerin...” bitna should not really pry. it was not in her nature, although there was no one else to talk to, no one else to cry to. bitna never felt more hopeless, waking up in a room with nowhere else to go. she thought her mind was a prison, but it turned out, there were far worse places. “how did you get here?” a pause. “in this... place, i mean. here. in the... hospital.”
to her, it was not a hospital.
it probably was not to the rest of the residents either.

❝ one blaze of glory ❞ ⇒ jumie & bitna
Jumie hung around behind the stage that was set up in the park, leaning against one of her band members as the butterflies flitted around in her stomach. They had done a few small competitions together, but had never performed in front of so many people before. The others didn’t seem too fazed as they joked around and pushed one another, not noticing that Jumie was quite literally shaking in her boots. It was the pre-performance jitters that she was used to by now, and expected to go away as usual once she got on the stage. Something about the lights and the sound of the music around her, the people below her, made her feel…at home.
Summer had just started and already her mother was trying to push her to think about college. Jumie tried to ward her mother off with I still have a year left, but the woman was persistent. In fact, she was under the impression that Jumie was studying for college entrance exams with friends tonight. If she found out that her daughter was out chasing that silly dream she wouldn’t be pleased. Which was probably a factor in the butterflies that danced in her stomach. A mixture of excitement at disobeying, possibly being caught, and fear that somehow her mother would find out. She closed her eyes for a few seconds and before she knew it, they were up next.
Making her way onto the stage, Jumie centered herself before the mic and closed her eyes once more, for just a few seconds as her drummer started the beat, setting the tone for the set. And then, it was like a light switched on inside of herself as she opened her eyes along with her mouth and let the first note ring out. There was something about the first note that always caused a surge of adrenaline and excitement to course through her body, quickly getting her into the feel of the song and of performing in front of a crowd. Her eyes tended to focus over the heads of the crowd, occasionally looking into the sea of faces, but mostly focusing ahead or on her members. It was nerve-wracking to see the expressions of the people below, because she was always afraid of seeing disappointment or disgust and losing her confidence while performing.
This night, however, as she started into the second song, her eyes fell upon a girl who had recently pushed her way up into the crowd. By all means, this girl shouldn’t have been anything special, but for some reason she was. Maybe it was the look on her face. It read pure enthrallment and admiration and Jumie could feel her face turn red at the gaze, quickly darting her look away as she carried the mic with her to the other side of the stage, really trying to amp up the crowd as she held the mic towards them. Then she wandered back, her eyes flitting to the girl now and again, and before she knew it the set was over and she was being ushered off the stage by her members.
Once she made it off the stairs and into the crowd, now one of the participators instead of performers, the energy washed out of her body and she felt her knees go weak, causing them to feel like jello. She needed to sit and didn’t feel like chatting about the set, so she waved her members off and wandered to the edges of the crowd to a place she could relax. A new group had taken the stage, but she found her mind preoccupied by the bright-eyed girl at the front, wondering if she looked at every band with that level of amazement and fascination–a small tinge of jealousy rippling through her at the thought, which was ridiculous, right? Right.
the performance ended, but bitna remained entranced. it took her awhile to realize she had stopped breathing by the time the last bits of the song had been performed. her eyes seemed to hurt as well, and she thought maybe she had also refrained herself from blinking -- unable to look away from the frontman (frontwoman?) with a voice that seemed like heaven would have opened up at the sound of it. the stage lights seemed to help, and bitna was blinded by the girl’s brightness moreso than the vivid-colored lights did.
when the next set began, with a new band and new singer, bitna decided to walk away from the rest of the crowd. her steps were slow by the time she reached the end, where not as many people were gathered. it could have been just her mind playing games on her, but she could have sworn the previous frontman had met her gaze a few times.
her friends still had not contacted her.
sighing, bitna made her way to the edge of the show venue where people sold food and drinks, and found an empty bench by a street lamp. she slumped down, her high-waist shorts rising a bit as she sat, feet kicking the dirt beneath her flats.
as much as bitna wanted to find her friends, she also, oddly enough, wanted to look for the singer she had shamelessly gaped at awhile ago. the stage was not far from where she sat, and she had a clearer view of the backstage now than she had from her previous spot. she did not need to think much of it, though, before realizing she would only look like another groupie if she ever tried to approach her.
right now, bitna felt a bit hopeless. maybe she ought to just head back home if her friends did not bother to try and look for her harder, if ever they did in the first place. crowded places had always messed with phone signals. bitna tilted her head back, neck resting against the back of the bench, and she watched the stars twinkle, listening to the music blasting from the speakers.
it just was not as good.
Hello Hello ➵ Chaerin&Bitna
It was now or never.
Chaerin pushed herself off the bed, sliding the doctor’s key she had ‘borrowed’ earlier out from underneath her pillow. It was definitely hard to snatch it from them, especially waiting for the right moment they wouldn’t be looking. She only had seconds to act, but at least she had it now and how much time she had with it she didn’t know. Chae just knew that she would be in huge trouble if they found out. It was a one time use only, or so she hoped. With light footsteps, she opened the door to her hospital room and looked around. She had hid the key underneath her armpit so to a casual onlooker, she just simply looked as though she were cold. She crossed her arms across her chest and continued on her way. However, this was the part where she would most likely get caught, having to find where her room is.
She could only see so far, so she had to guess by what her gut feeling told her. The girl was surely to be in the same ward she had been thrown into when she first arrived.
Her breathing quicked at the thought of someone catching her, she needed to find her room. Now. Chaerin was still confused at the thought, why was she even putting herself at risk for a stranger she had never seen before? Hopefully she wasn’t stuck up and that it wasn’t all for nothing. Chae continued looking through the tiny windows, frowning everytime it was not her. Maybe she had guessed incorrectly and they threw her somewhere else.
She had to be somewhere, or else Chaerin would have to go back to her room.
Finally, the moment she had lost all hope, she found the girl she had been looking for. Letting out a shaky breath, she went to unlock the door but that wasn’t before she saw the girl stir. Not knowing what to do, her eyes widened and she ducked, taking the key out before she could unlock the door. After a minute or two, she looked back inside the window and the girl seemed to have vanished.
Eitherway, Chaerin unlocked the door and slowly opened it in her confusion. Her eyes widening since she hadn’t realized that maybe she could have been leaning against the door. She hoped the girl was alright and carefully stepped inside before closing the door again, albeit she wanted to get caught if she continued gawking at the girl. To her, she was prettier than she thought and for a moment she was speechless.
“Who are you?”
rushed footsteps.
bitna was not quite sure whether she was hearing all this in her head, or if the dead silence of the room had caused her to spiral further down into the dark pits of madness. the sound of keys jingling and the door unlocking made bitna sit up in attention, found that her body hurt too much, and the previous sedation that occurred caused her system to shut down for awhile. she still could not feel her legs properly, felt too weak from down below, and her physical control had only just returned to her upper portion.
when the door opened, bitna almost fell backwards, but caught herself with her arms. quickly, she turned, crawling backwards, closer to the place where she first became conscious. until then, she had not noticed the red hand prints and smudges of her own blood on the pristine, padded floor, and her eccentric retro dress. they had not changed her, by the looks of it.
before bitna could say anything, the question had already been thrown back at her. bitna must have had a look of utter confusion, tinged with a bout of fear. the girl in front of her did not look like anyone who would put her in a straight jacket, but it was hard to calm down when she watched the girl close the door behind her, leaving both of them alone in the room. she had nowhere to run.
it was not like she can in the first place.
“bitna,” she replied, her voice sounded like an unintentional release of air. it sounded raspy, and her throat hurt when she talked. she tried to clear it, attempted once more to speak. “cha bitna. i...” a pause, as she eyed the presence in the room with a suspicious and curious gaze. the girl looked more like a patient, with her bare face and clothing. it did not hurt to ask, though. just in case -- to prepare for the worst.
“who are you? do you work here?”
