“the way i see it a lot of people around here who should be difficult to kill dropped like flies a while back,” josie returned, maybe a bit too harshly but it wasn’t wrong. a lot of people in her life had died, she’d been surrounded by death since she was born, actually technically even before she was even born if you took her biological mother into account. and so had hope, death had followed her around in new orleans and if death gave precious time in life meaning then it had a hell of a lot of meaning.
“i have crawled out of hell, figuratively and literally, just to get back for hope and i’m not trying to say i’m not happy to be here with her, but..” generally when hayley — or anyone else in their weird little family — had a come back like this, it ended poorly for one of them. and the truth was, the more times they came back and got offed the worse it was for hope. she and everyone around her would always give their lives for her daughter, as much as it might suck for her in the long-run, “... i’m sorry, from what i understand it hasn’t been easy on you either.”
