# 3/20 - Brigita Ercegovic - 2017/18 IYL Showcase Finalist: Brigita Ercegovic was born and lives in Split, Croatia. Although not limited to specific formats or types of cameras, she prefers analogue photography for the mood and emotion it brings.

Ercegovic takes photos that are nostalgic and intimate, capturing moments of isolation and melancholy. Main image chosen by Pat O’Rourke of Rental Magazine on display at Ace Hotel in Shoreditch.

NOW ON VIEW in the American Art Galleries: Russian Ballet

We are excited about the return of Max Weber’s Russian Ballet (1916) to our American galleries. Painted from memory, the scene documents a theatrical production Weber attended with fellow artist Arthur B. Davies when Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes made its official debut in New York. The company was at the forefront of modern theater and dance; Diaghilev enlisted many of the premiere avant-garde artists, composers, choreographers, and designers of the era to create innovative set designs and costumes, along with dynamic music and choreography. Weber’s painting captures the essence of the performance and is conceived in the artist’s distinctive Cubist and Futurist idiom. The kaleidoscopic colors and array of conical, angular, and concentric shapes create a visual spectacle that evokes the lights, sounds, and movements on stage.

We’re sharing 3 photos/day from this year’s submission shortlist in the run up to the If You Leave Showcase launching December 7th in London and travelling to New York in Summer 2018, where 20 final images will be exhibited as chosen by this year’s co-curators.

As always, the 20 finalists are chosen by 20 different co-curators, representing some of the finest platforms, publications and galleries and the showcase will be exhibited across selected venues throughout both cities. Alongside the showcase, we are opening a pop-up space/come café with some exciting talks and workshops.
