Wait...

If the final saber that Maul has is the one that belonged to an inquisitor once, then we supposed to theorize that Maul is the first executioner of Marrok right? In Ahsoka's show is shown that he is a zombie controlled by nightsister's magic, so it's highly possible that we see in S2 the moment when Marrok is killed and his body is forgotten on Dathomir until Morgan Elsbeth or Baylan Skoll found it. And you will think "Then Maul build his new lightsaber with the original parts of Marrok's one" right?

But what if this new lightsaber that Maul has until Rebels, originally belonged to a third inquisitor that was sent to hunt him?

In S1 they send Marrok and The Crow to hunt him, but what if we see another inquisitor in S2 that took the place of The Crow because by that time The Crow was already killed by Ahsoka and this is the lightsaber that Maul claim to build a new one.

In Ahsoka series we see how Marrok, as a zombie, has his original inquisitor lightsaber and we see that is not damaged, it's pretty functional until the end. So I was thinking, Morgan or Baylan couldn't just seek for a lightsaber that was the same that the inquisitors once helded in a galaxy that was already taken by the New Republic and it's imposible that the saber was made by the nightsister's magic because the weapon could vanish just like his body but it didn't which makes me realize that this saber is his original one and it's impossible that Maul took it as a "trophy" to replace it into his new weapon.

So I have two theories: 1.- Marrok was killed by Devon or 2.- Maul killed Marrok but didn't took his saber bc he already had a new one.

If my first theory is right then, in that moment, Maul is fighting the other inquisitor that we don't know who it is and maybe in that battle he obtains his new saber.

And finally if my second theory is right or close, then Marrok will be killed in the middle or final chapters because I think what we are going to see is how the relationship between Devon and Maul breaks at the end and if we are going to see something like that Marrok has to be eliminated before or in the middle of that conflict.

But who knows, for now we just have to wait.

This scene is really interesting, because even if Wrath has been effectively decanonized, it ties up perfectly with it.

Maul recognizes the sign just by looking at half of it. He has an angry look for a second before questioning Vizsla. "Your mark." That symbol is not just from the house Vizsla, it is also known as the symbol of the Death Watch. He doesn't question what type of mark it is or where it came from, he knows it's a mandalorian symbol from a group, he knows it's from Death Watch. And while he looks at the others members, he already starts to get angry and aggressive even before they start to show their guns.

In Wrath he has a teacher: Meltch Krakko, a death watch mandalorian. Maul himself is the one to say and recognize him as one. And he has quite a lot of reasons to keep bad memories from Krakko.

In every single one of his appearances he is shown to be hostile and unnecessarily cruel towards Maul:

Punching him to unconsciousness the first time they meet, when Maul is thirteen years old. - "...But he wasn’t fast enough to stop Meltch Krakko’s fist from knocking him out cold..."

Playing favorites with two students who like to bully Maul for two years. - "...Since Krakko's return to Orsis Academy two years ago, he had not only taken a special interest in training the Rodians in tracking and sharpshooting, but also in tormenting the 15 year old zabrak..." - "...A rock struck his horned head, and another hit his shoulder. He heard a scuffing noise from above and realized his pursuers were kicking rocks over the rim. They're trying to kill me..."

And threatening and being violent against him enough to the point of Maul comparing him to Sidious - "...He guessed that the burns he was about to sustain would be much more painful than the ones he’d received from Meltch Krakko’s blaster..."

Krakko is even the one to call Talzin and set up Maul to be kidnapped and taken back to Dathomir; At the end of the book Maul tackles him to kill him and it is said he does so in such a violent way that it shocks the characters around.

The idea of Maul carrying a special hate towards Death Watch mandalorians is not far fetched when taking acount those years he would have been targeted by a figure of authority he could do nothing against.

His hostility towards Vizsla and his attempts to form a more stable relationship inside their alliance makes sense. How he does not hesitate to left the mandalorians to die at the siege telling them to "Die well" or how he does not react to most of their deaths in SL.

Maul would never have trusted any mandalorian who carried the symbol of one of his abusers.
