OH MY GOD
Today, Misty Copeland was named Principal Ballerina at American Ballet Theatre, the first Black ballerina in the company’s 75 year history. The photo on the right is Ms. Copeland being congratulated by one of her idols, Raven Wilkinson. Ms. Wilkinson was the first Black woman to dance full-time with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in 1955 - but racism stunted much of her career in the United States. The photo on the right was taken by Gene Schiavone. The photo of Ms. Wilkinson in the 1950s was provided by her to Pointe Magazine
“Iker has never stopped being one of the best keepers in the world, to me he’s always been world-class.“ - Cristiano Ronaldo
’‘Having Casillas is to have an insurance. He has always been good at penalties.”-Sergio Ramos
“When everything seems lost, Iker appears and saves you”-Xavi
“It is very difficult for a goalkeeper to win an individual award as the Golden Ball, but Iker is a player who deserves all this type off awards, is one of the best goalkeepers in history, is essential to his team and at his young age he is living history of Real Madrid.”-Paco Buyo
“Casillas is a good man and I enjoy talking to him. He was and he is an amazing goalkeeper.“-Gigi Buffon
"He doesn’t have to prove anything.”-Raúl
“Iker knows that he is the best goalkeeper in the world and that everything will return to normal soon.”-Guti
“I don’t think Casillas has lost his magic. He’s a fantastic player that all Spaniards should boast about.”-Del Bosque
“I can only praise Iker and say that I respect him so much for what he has achieved.Casillas is always there and he always plays, so it is hard to imagine a Madrid or Spain side without him in it.”-Franco
“What can we say about Casillas? He is 31-years-old and has won everything. I think he started playing for the first team of Real Madrid at the age of 17 or 18 , that says everything. He has been wonderful for all this time for both Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. I do not know him personally, but I see him, I read his interviews, and I’ve never heard anything bad about him. He’s a great captain for Real Madrid and for Spain.”-Edwin van der Sar
In other news, happy 24th birthday to our magician, James Rodríguez! Feliz Cumpleaños James!!! Crack !!
I always thought that when Iker Casillas would leave.. we would get weeks notice and we would get to watch him play with the team one last time knowing that we are watching a legend’s last minutes on the pitch. And the team would be wearing shirts dedicated to him. I always saw him entering and leaving his last match with his teammates by his side while the Santiago Bernabéu erupted in roars. Screaming out his name with a mix of emotions. Tears of happiness and sadness alike.
Just that one last match…to cherish those final moments.
To celebrate our legend and give him the farewell he deserves.
That’s all I wanted. Apparently that was too much to ask for.
when iker changes the “goalkeeper and captain of real madrid” thing i’ll probably die drowned in my own tears
This club is a disgrace
Fuck you, Perez.
I will always be a madridista, and will always be proud of this club and what we’ve achieved, but that won’t stop me from criticizing the shit out of our president and board.
This drawn-out, humiliating dismissal of our CAPTAIN who literally embodies madridismo and has been with the club for 25 YEARS is evidence of how much Perez’s idiocy has failed both the players and the fans.
During his worst games, Iker was still one of the best goalies in the world. If he felt it was time to go, I would have supported his decision 100%, and I still do. But Iker was forced out. He was booed by his own fans, accused of being greedy by the media, and was not protected by the club to which he dedicated his life.
Iker is a legend of this club, and no matter how shitty this transfer has been, he will always be a legend, for years to come. San Iker, the captain who brought us La Decima.
And Perez, a greedy little snake of a man who bought and manipulated his way into power, will be nothing but a stain on the club history.
Iker left the comment on Marcelo’s photo :’)
Haiti scores late in 1-1 draw with Panama in Gold Cup opener
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Duckens Nazon wrong-footed the defense to score in the 85th minute and give Haiti a 1-1 draw with Panama in the CONCACAF Gold Cup opener Tuesday.
Nazon took a long pass down the right side and beat defender Harold Cummings with a move to the inside before shooting to the far post, past goalkeeper Jaime Peneda.
Panama, runner-up to the U.S. in the 2013 Gold Cup, opened the scoring in the 55th minute of the Group A match. Alberto Quintero scored from just outside the penalty area when defender Reginal Goreux failed to clear the ball.
It was the first draw in seven openers for Panama, which outshot Haiti 7-2. Haiti has two draws and four losses in Gold Cup openers.
