One evening we were skipping stones upon the pond of our memories quietly you turned to me and said, “All you ever did was lie to me”

“A life without love,” you whispered, “was one to be condemned” and my talent for thoughtless abandon put my damnation in my own hands

Your lips still part in a sea of anger but your eyes only know sadness and fear I’ve understood that the weapons penned were merely resentment for all the years

Yet in our darkness, beauty was spun I took your hands and told you “the past cannot be undone,” and though you think a moment without you is where I care to exist I wish you could see it was merely my life I fought for with burning fists

All that I am, is a shell of a war, a man that ran, yes, but a man that wanted more
