CHARACTER - BACKGROUND

If your muse is not native to Blackstone Ridge, what brings your muse to Blackstone Ridge? If your muse is from Blackstone Ridge, what keeps them here?

Her father was ready for retirement. It was his 70th birthday gift to himself at the beginning of September. Being the eldest of the Fletcher children, the right to own the law firm went to her first. After spending her life in New York since she was eighteen, a failed marriage and a whole slew of other issues, the timing could not have been better for her to step away from the constant busyness that has been her entire existence for the past twenty-two years.

What is the coolest place your muse has traveled to? If they’ve never traveled far, what’s one place they hope to visit someday?

Bali. Friends from Columbia and NYU Law have gone on an annual trip one week a year since their first year of law school together. This trip found Isla shortly after her divorce. She needed a break from the leering eyes and constant whispers that surrounded her after her public breakup. It allowed her to reclaim her independence, joy, and sense of self-worth. From newfound memories and unlocking even deeper conversations with her friends to a newfound level of confidence and peace, it was just what she needed before returning to her hometown.

Which parent (or parental figure) does your muse take after the most and in what ways? Are they aware of these similarities?

Everyone has told Isla that she is a carbon copy of her father since she can remember. Same mannerisms, interests, even down to a birthmark on their outer left thigh. She's always had a healthy relationship with both of her parents, but being the firstborn had given her an even closer relationship with her father, so she'd like to believe. The legacy of the Fletcher family in Blackstone Ridge was something Isla wanted to take beyond the town limits, and when she received her father's approval, she jet-setted off to New York. Even in between holiday and birthday visits back into town, she knows she can call her dad at any hour of the day and get more wisdom from him than anyone else in her orbit.

Does your muse struggle to forgive others, or are they quick to offer grace? 

Her great-grandfather taught her when she was ten the importance of offering grace to people during a family barbecue. Isla learned to have grace for someone after not understanding a client's case and the decisions they made that landed them in the family law office. There is more than meets the eye. The challenge is taking the time to understand the scope of who someone is and being able to empathize. It does not necessarily mean you refrain from condoning or holding another accountable. Instead, the ability to extend forgiveness with the focus on the other and not on the self will save you a lifetime of misery. Sometimes she struggles with it, but she would rather walk away with her power still intact than give someone else power over her for an action they committed against her, whether directly or indirectly.

Describe your muse’s highest high or lowest low so far in their life.

The most rewarding experience was starting a nonprofit with some friends in New York to offer a summer immersive program for girls from both the city and small towns across the country. High school students stay in New York for a month and a half, participating in various workshops that focus on careers, self-confidence, and building friendships. On the other hand, the lowest point came when she left the final mediation session with her ex. In an instant, her entire future changed, and a part of herself also seemed to fade away in that moment.

CHARACTER - BACKGROUND

What is the one place your muse feels most at home, and what does this place mean to them?

Ana has traveled a lot throughout her life, and has never really considered any town or city truly her home. For her, home is more of a feeling of having a place within a place. Right now, the house she has in Ridgeview Heights with her beloved bunnies and vegetable garden is home to her - and she plans to stay there long term.

Ana was born in Mexico, and adopted by a family from Seattle after both her parents died in a tragic car accident. Her adoptive father was a wealthy CEO, who was in the public eye to some degree. She also had a few adoptive siblings who she bonded with. Ana enjoyed the privileges that came with being from a wealthy family, and wanted to give back. After graduating High School, she didn't bother with college and instead used her family's money to do volunteer work across the globe. However, after finding out that her father's company was a huge perpetrator of wage theft, she decided she no longer wanted anything to do with him of his money. Especially upon the realization that she and her siblings were adopted to help with his public image. For a while she felt a little lost, until she found out that she had a biological cousin living in Blackstone Ridge. She also feels like she can do a bit of good there by helping out with the food poverty in Texas. It just feels like the perfect place to settle, regroup, and save up for college.

What would you say is your muse’s biggest motivation or desire, and how does this impact their decision-making?

Ana wants to be good and put good into the world - more than anything else. Since her global volunteer work has been put on hold, she opts to volunteer in Blackstone Ridge's food bank. She is also saving up for college so she can follow a career path where she can do good - she hasn't fully figured out what the path is just yet, but it is a huge goal for her.

How does your muse view themselves as a person? How does that compare to how your muse’s best friend views them?

Ana sees herself as a regular person - she doesn't regard her veganism or the choice she made to mostly live off food she grew in her own garden as anything too out of the ordinary. However, her friends see her as a bit of a hippie.

What is your muse’s relationship with their family like?

Ana got along well with her biological family, and was devastated when she lost her parents at such a young age. However, she was lucky to have a very lovely adoptive family. At least that's what she spent her teenage years believing. Her adoptive parents seemed to really care for her and give her everything, and she loved her adoptive siblings. When she found out about what he father was up to, and how she was used by him for PR - her relationship with her adoptive family shifted. She still cares for her adoptive siblings, but she wants nothing to do with her adoptive parents. She is also very eager to get to know her biological cousin.

Does your muse struggle to admit when they make a mistake, or are they quick to own up to it? Does it matter who they’re admitting it to, or how big the mistake is?

Ana is committed to growing as a person, so she will always do her best to admit when she made a mistake. Of course she has to believe it was a mistake for her to do that, however.

What is the coolest place your muse has traveled to? If they’ve never traveled far, what’s one place they hope to visit someday?

Ana has traveled all over the world doing volunteer work. Her favorite experience was helping with elephant rehabilitation in Thailand. That isn't the best place she traveled to, however. That spot belongs to Peru, where she climbed to the top of Machu Picchu. She'd love to travel more, but that has been put on hold for the time being.

Which parent (or parental figure) does your muse take after the most and in what ways? Are they aware of these similarities?

It's not really a question of which parent Ana takes after the most, but rather which set of parents. The answer to that is simple: her birth parents. Or at least that's what she likes to believe. They definitely have more of an influence on her than her adoptive parents, but it would be foolish to assume that she got nothing from her adoptive parents.

Does your muse struggle to forgive others, or are they quick to offer grace? 

Ana is Catholic - true, she's not the most devout Christian, but she still believes there is a loving God who is looking over everyone. That God teaches forgiveness. However, Ana cannot forgive someone who isn't even sorry. A genuine apology is needed, but once given she will forgive.

Describe your muse’s highest high or lowest low so far in their life.

The lowest low of Ana's life was undoubtedly the death of her birth parents. Suddenly everything in her life changed, she lost the people who did everything for her, and was suddenly lifted from her home country and moved to the States. Despite this, there are still a lot of high points in her life. Her favorite was spending a year in Thailand helping elephants.
