Andrew wished he had never picked up smoking. He knew it was gross, but it was a habit he had developed from years of going out and working at different bars. "Oh no, I am avoiding them. I didn't do anything, at least that I can recall."
"Okay, then why are you avoiding them? I mean, there has to be a reason, right?" Blair's go-to reason was that she had slept badly and simply did not want to interact with other people. She wondered if his was similar.

"Yeah! Yes. That would so awesome, thank you." Jess would have let out the world's longest sigh of relief if she needed to. Even now, apologies were hard and they didn't always go well. Jess leaned forward, a bright grin on her face while she nodded along to Blair's every word as if it was the most exciting thing she'd ever heard. "Poptarts, love that for you. Faith was having Poptarts earlier. What flavour did you have? Oh, this place totally runs on coffee." Jess gave her question a good two seconds of pause-to-think before replying. "Today has been pretty great! I mean, there are some areas we could be working on forsure but overall good vibes. Well, if you don't count running into Russo. He is still such an asshole. Oh! Did you hear about the secret Andrews brother in the basement?"
She still was feeling unsettled by the whole friendly and upbeat Jessica Harvelle thing, even though she had literally just said that she was going to put everything behind her, accept the status quo. But words were easier than actions, especially when Jess was grinning at her and talking excitedly about Poptarts. "Just s'mores. I try to keep it classic, you know." Okay, well, at least they could all agree on the assholery of Russo. That could bond them all. "Oh, you have my fullest condolences, for real. Secret Andrews brother? There's another one?"
Andrew nodded his head as he finished his cigarette, putting it out on the wall before finding a nearby trashcan to throw away the rest. "Fresh air is definitely nice; it can help, especially if you are on your computer a lot. The sun is nice, I guess. I am just doing anything to get away from everyone else."
She had actually never smoked a cigarette before (if that made her a loser, so be it) but clearly he enjoyed it, and that made Blair halfway tempted to try one. "So whose cereal did you pee in if you need to escape from everyone?"
Dave fought off an amused smile at her answer, letting her carry on without interruption. He nodded, matching her pace as she led the way. This was... weird, right? It's not like he really felt sorry for biting her. Well, he couldn't. He would - he did, before - but making amends now didn't really count. And yet, he found himself thinking about apologising. "Nerds are very in fashion, you know?" he said at last. "And there's nothing wrong with being extremely sensible in these extremely un-sensible times. Is your dry wit - cutting as it is - the only weapon you keep on you or...?"
Was David Perry trying to pay her a compliment? Blair wasn't sure how she felt about that. Actually, she was pretty sure she knew how she felt about it, and the answer was extremely flustered (she wasn't great at compliments at the best of times, and this was far from the best of times). "Are there? I'm not exactly an expert at fashion," she managed. "As sharp as my wit is, thank you very much, I do have more than that to protect me. It's just, you know, in my bag."
Andrew was mostly joking. He didn't need the cigarette to have negative thoughts. "Yeah, definitely unfair to blame them for my brain, I guess." He smiled at Blair. "What are you doing out here? I know what I am trying to avoid."
"I was going to say...That would be a wild Pavlovian response to have created. Almost impressive, really." Blair shrugged. "I heard a rumor that fresh air is healthy or something. And spending too much time inside staring at my laptop gives me a headache."
"Sammy, did you know that they have-" Kathy's words were almost literally knocked out of her when she crashed into the other person. "...You're not my husband." @havensdalestarters
"Just real, probably. Not trying to die, I just can't see this whole thing ending well for anyone in this town." Andrew had been thinking about it ever since the last conversation he had with Katie. "Sorry, I am being a bummer. Blame the cigarette."
Yes, it was something that Blair knew. Especially since the prom, seeing her old school be destroyed...It wore a girl down, no doubt about it. "Oh no, we aren't blaming cigarettes. Yeah, sure, they're toxic, but I don't think they cause negative thoughts."
Dave scoffed - no, wait... laughed? - at her 'sorry'. "Way harsh," he said, almost teasingly, before shaking his head. "You don't have to apologise. Besides, better to be harsh now more than ever. Nice job surviving this never ending shit-storm, by the way. I, for one, underestimated you." He nodded, another wry smile tugging at his lips. "If only it ended with Count Chocula. Alright, sounds good to me. Sensible of you, even," he added, admittedly poking fun a little.
Was he making fun of her? Probably, Blair conceded. But hey, she'd rather be mocked by a vampire than, you know, attacked by one, so she supposed that was a win. "I know I have a reputation for being a total..." Loser, a not so small piece of her wanted to say, but she shoved that voice down. "Nerd," she decided on. "But I'm not completely uncoordinated, and I'm somewhat lucky. And extremely sensible. So here I am." Fine, they were doing this thing. But she was not going to let him in her house. Absolutely not. "This way, I guess."
"Do you think it's too late to make a break for it?"
He glanced around. "If you go left, it's shorter, but you would have to dodge two ice sculptures. How fast a runner are you?"
Andrew shrugged as he looked at her, cigarette in hand, still waiting for a light from someone. "It does, but I think I am more likely to die in this town than from cancer."
Yeah, he did have a point, statistically speaking and all that, but now that Blair had the idea in her head, she wasn't about to let it go. "Well, that's a pretty grim way of looking at things, don't you think?"

Andrew was avoiding the house; he needed a minute away from all the chaos of everything. Most of it wasn't even the people; it was him, he had been thinking again. Walking around the town, he just wanted a minute, but in Havensdale, he wasn't sure it was possible.
"Can you spare a light? I need to smoke."
It was rude to eavesdrop, and Blair knew that. She wasn't a complete idiot. Still, she couldn't help herself when she heard Andrew Choi's comment. She could work on her self control another day.
"Smoking kills, you know." At least she didn't sound like a complete and total bitch. That was a win.

Look, the company is paying for their travel and putting them up in a very nice hotel, after all!
