A preview of an Ardyn x Ravus Fanfic  SPOILER ALERT: IMPORTANT STORY PLOT IS BELOW 

“I can't help but wonder, Ravus.” Ardyn spoke out with enthusiasm as he slowly paced around the open room. A devilish smile rested softly on his lips. His playful gaze never left the pale features of his stubborn company. Oh how he loved his expression of defeat. Time and time again he would go way out of his way to see it. Those piercing blue eyes of Ravus put up such a satisfying fight. Ravus would always start out with such a strong fight. He would harshly banter until he found himself pitifully cornered. Sadly, the poor lad would lose his touch once things got too personal. Time and time again Ardyn hoped he could numb him to the attachments he held onto so dearly. His overflowing care for his sister was only going to cause him harm in the end. If it harmed him too much he would become useless—and that just wouldn't be fun, now would it? In the end they both knew he would come out on top. Ravus might not have wanted to play games with him, in fact sometimes he didn't even have to. On a rare occasion the man would push himself down into the darkest pit of depression imaginable. Sometimes they would pass over chaotic scenes that would trigger thoughts of his sad story of a past. Usually he wouldn't talk about it, but everyone knew what was going on inside his head. It was the look of despair in his eyes that Ardyn really wanted to see—so he would talk to him when needed. Today was certainly not one of those days, yet Ravus still looked more sluggish than normal. The prideful walk he carried about himself was completely gone. Just what had robbed him of his happiness today? Ardyn was almost offended by the idea of someone else stealing the man's sunshine away. Nonetheless the details of his behaviors weren't all that important to him, for he would either make it worse or make it better. If he made it better it would give him the opportunity to crush him all over again. Ravus might not have wanted to play, but the blonde was far too prideful to simply give up. What fun this was. Ravus found Ardyn's antics annoying far more than anything else. From the way his voice fluctuated in tone to the way his fingertips would tap against whatever object was closest to him—it was all bitterly annoying. Ravus let out a sigh of annoyance that signaled he was not in the mood to play with the man. Everything was a game to Ardyn. Not one thing was taken with full seriousness. What did have to lose? He almost envied the immortal. There wasn't a thing in the world that he cared about. Ardyn had no one to protect—he had no one to lose. Those were the two major stressor in his life that prevented him from moving past these games. In the end he really didn't have a choice. If he wanted things to run smoothly he had to expose himself to the man in every way possible. The quirked brow on the face of his unwanted company signaled the beginning of a war. “You have other things you should be doing.” The tone Ravus used was as cold as his gaze. There were few things he could say that would be appropriate for their conversation. Ardyn would take anything he said and twist it around into his own personal creation. The immortal was quick-witted in ways he couldn't even comprehend. The smile dancing along his lips was now wider than before. That was a clear sign that Ardyn had started the conversation with a devilish intent. Usually he would just start fights with him and leave. Later in the day Ardyn would apologize with the sweetest tone a man could manage. Every damn time he would fall for it. The cycle they had going on was without an escape. The immortal was a tide far too strong for him to fight against. “Oh? A little snippy today aren't we? What a shame—I was coming to extend an invitation to you.” It was almost as if Ardyn was weaving a song together as he spoke. There was a bounce in his step that carried both excitement and deception. A pout formed on his features as he finished his sentence, his arms folded loosely in front of his chest. “I highly doubt it would have been one I would have entertained.” There he went, snapping at the man once more. Ardyn was beside himself with joy, the blonde reacted just as he had expected him to. Ravus was one of the few mentally stimulating things he had at his disposable. There was a great amount of pleasure he got from these games. “I wouldn't say that just yet. You really shouldn't be so rude, Ravus.” “I've not a single reason to be nice. That's never gotten us anywhere.” “There you go again with your harsh words. You wound me deeply.” “As if anything can wound you.” “Oh but they can. My emotions are a fragile thing.” “I couldn't believe that even if you were being serious.” “So you're telling me you don't care about my invitation?” “Not in the slightest.” “That's not what your gaze says.” Ravus was silent now. Without another thought he quickly tore his curious gaze away from Ardyn. He even went as far as to turn his head away from the man, blonde locks crashing against his face in the process. Hatred bubbled within him as he tried to think of a proper response. His lips parted—yet nothing came out. Ardyn had defeated him so early this time around. Why did he always look at him like that? Why could he read him so well? These were the thoughts that consumed him during these conversations. “What would you know about that?” Ravus finally spoke out, his arms crossing in front of his chest in a rather taunting manner. “Wouldn't you like to know?” Ardyn mused back at him, his weight shifting to favor his left side. Ravus couldn't deny his curiosity, and the other man knew that. It didn't take long for Ardyn to realize Ravus wasn't going to say anything else. He was quick to shift around so that his hands rested calmly behind his back. With a small hop Ardyn started walking around the room once more. “We've many places to be. You've not seen your sister in quite some time. I'm sure you're eager to visit.” Ardyn trailed off with a sickening smile that could only be matched by his confident air. “--..but you said you weren't interested.” He clicked his tongue in a manner that was supposing to sound scolding. Once again he was hunting for that expression of defeat. He was a step ahead having rendered Ravus virtually speechless—but that wasn't satisfying enough for him. No, he wanted to see true pain and agony. He wanted those blue eyes to beg for a release from this mental torture. Ravus had already gasped out at his words. Those chilling eyes of his were resting on him like he was a target of some sort. Oh he was sure an average man would feel rather threatened by such a gaze. What hate it held. There was something deeper though, something that he could see so very clearly. Ravus was desperate to see his sister. It had been quite some time since Ardyn had even allowed Ravus a simple glimpse at her. He claimed their separation would make the blonde stronger. He claimed that him being on edge about her safety all the time would push him to be a great man—a man who could learn to protect her in the darkest of hours. What sweet lies those were. It was a shame Ravus so easily believed them. The boy was so willingly to torture himself for her sake. Perhaps it was of fear of the unknown—perhaps it was of genuine concern for her safety. Either were highly plausible. . .
