Here, they take on more human shapes, and have little to no memory of who or what they used to be. Weary travellers sometimes wander into town by mistake, but none ever leave it. With so many former killers together in the same town, who knows what could happen?

Hello!! I apologize, both to you and my wonderful group members, for the extended inactivity on this blog. I, the admin, recently lost the ability to access this blog when my replacement laptop stopped working. It’s currently in the process of being fixed, but I have no idea how long that will take. I once again apologize profusely, and I completely understand if some members wish to leave the group. To those who do, I had so much fun writing with you and thank you for being a part of Bleeding Hearts.

Sorry if this totally went over my head or something, but I was wondering if there's a state or geographic region Chicanery is in? This rp is absolutely rad, by the way!

No worries at all! To be completely honest, I haven’t fully figured it out yet; seeing as Chicanery exists within a parallel reality it could conceivably be anywhere. I tend to imagine it being somewhere like Maine or Washington (not DC), but nothing’s been canonically established yet. Small town America, for sure. Thank you so much for your kind words!!

ARMAND DE ROMANUS ~ AGE: 25 ~ OCCUPATION: MODEL

IN A PAST LIFE: 

Andrei was a Russian youth and a skilled painter, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. He was eventually rescued by a vampire named Marius, who ended up turning him into a vampire as well and giving him the new name Amadeo. However, not long afterwards Marius was killed and Amadeo was captured by a cult of vampires, who over time indoctrinated him into their ranks; so much so that he took over as leader of the cult, and renamed himself Armand. After the meddling of Lestat, Armand ended up destroying most of his own followers, and he began leading an acting troupe of vampires instead. He encountered Lestat’s fledglings Louis and Claudia, but soon discovered they had broken key vampire laws. He spared Louis, partially due to Lestat’s interference and partially due to Armand’s own attraction to Louis, but he was responsible for Claudia’s execution by sunlight. He and Louis were lovers for a time, but ultimately separated. From that point on his life is shrouded in mystery, but one way or another he was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY: 

Armand was born to a wealthy Eastern European family, that emigrated to the States when he was young, and while he’s lived all his life in the lap of luxury, he had a tense and tumultuous relationship with his now-deceased father. His father was a business tycoon hoping that Armand would become his successor, however, Armand instead electing to pursue a modelling career; one that quickly flourished. Though it’s been months since his father died, Armand has relocated to the small town of Chicanery to keep a low profile for a while before returning home. He lives on the high-class side of town and doesn’t mind being recognized, for he somehow feels safe and isolated from the rest of the world in this little town. He’s very charming and charismatic, and isn’t afraid to use his power of persuasion to his advantage. Admittedly, his cool exterior masks years of emotional abuse and psychological scars that may never heal.

WHISPERS AROUND TOWN:

As fate would have it, Armand has moved into the same neighbourhood as his ex-boyfriend, Louis de Pointe du Lac. They had a brief but passionate relationship back when Armand’s career first launched, before their respective familial situations ultimately pulled them apart. He’s friendly with Louis to hide the residual feelings he still has for him, though admittedly he has his eye on one of his new housemates, Claudia de Lioncourt. He may also pursue Claudia partially to spite Louis’ new boyfriend, her brother Lestat de Lioncourt. Armand isn’t afraid to engage with the town’s other aristocrats socially, such as Vladimir “Vlad” Dracula and Abraham Van Helsing, and even the town mayor Harold Desmond. He’s met Amber Sweet before in passing, and the two seem to relate to each other.

CLAUDIA DE LIONCOURT ~ AGE: 19 ~ OCCUPATION: STUDENT

IN A PAST LIFE: 

Claudia was a five-year-old street urchin who lost both of her parents to the plague. While she wept over her mother’s corpse, she was found by a vampire named Louis. Feeling sympathy for her, Louis fed on her blood in an attempt to end the child’s suffering, only to have his companion and fellow vampire Lestat transformed her into a vampire in order to bind Louis to him. She became like a “daughter” to both vampires, but as time went on, she started to mature psychologically while still being trapped in the body of a child for eternity. In addition, she was more of an indiscriminate killer than either of her father figures. She began to desperately want to physically mature into a fully grown woman, and the fact that this was impossible enraged and devastated her. As a result, she started to resent both of her fathers for making her a vampire. She hated Lestat especially for refusing to answer any of her questions about vampirism, and she finally snapped and attempted to kill him. While he survived, she and Louis managed to escape and travelled alone together for a time. They eventually found a theatre troupe made up entirely of vampires, but found themselves in terrible danger when the coven learned of the crimes they had committed against vampire law. Louis was spared due to Lestat’s intervention, but Claudia was executed by being trapped in a room where there was no escape from the sunlight. After her death, she wandered the earth as a ghost for a short while, before she was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY: 

Claudia spent her early life homeless and living on the streets with her mother, and they struggled to get by every day. One bitter winter when Claudia was fifteen, her mother passed away from exposure, leaving her on her own. Devastated and desperate, Claudia sought shelter and safety, and was taken in by a young man who showed her kindness and quite possibly saved her life. Upon discovering that she was an orphan, the young man convinced his mother to legally adopt Claudia, making them adoptive siblings. Ever since then, Claudia has lived a charmed and pampered life, and has more than she had ever had before. She was even accepted into the Chicanery community college, and when she moved to the small town of Chicanery to attend her classes, her new brother moved along with her; both to help provide for her and to escape from his stalker. Claudia is closer to her brother and their housemate than she is to her classmates, though deep down she does want to make friends and fit in. Though she’s very mature for her age, she does have a fiery temper. She has aspirations of one day becoming a famous model.

Claudia lives with her adoptive older brother Lestat de Lioncourt and his on-and-off boyfriend Louis de Pointe du Lac. She has a fairly standard sibling relationship with Lestat, both loving and hating him in equal measures. She feels indebted to him for saving her life, though she also envies him greatly for his successful acting career and his relationship with Louis. She has harboured a crush on Louis since she first met him, a fact that Louis is aware of but as yet she has not acted upon for fear that he would reject her. She is friendly with their neighbour Armand de Romanus, finding him both sexy and dangerous, and knows he has connections in the modelling world. She finds it difficult to interact with her classmates at school, though she admires Ginger Fitzgerald and Esther Klammer from afar. She also lives in the same neighbourhood as Katrina Van Tassel, whom she admires as well and wishes to befriend.

LOUIS DE POINTE DU LAC ~ AGE: 27 ~ OCCUPATION: MUSICIAN/WRITER

IN A PAST LIFE: 

Louis was a sad and lonely man who was suicidal, and often tried to incite fights in the hopes that someone would kill him. However, a vampire named Lestat came to him and offered him salvation in the form of being transformed into a vampire himself. Louis accepted, and the two of them travelled together for some time; eventually becoming lovers. Their relationship was not without its pitfalls, and Lestat ended up turning a little girl named Claudia into a vampire to be their “daughter,” in order to bind Louis to him. This backfired on him however, when Claudia became resentful of him and tried to kill him. Though Lestat survived, Louis and Claudia travelled together without him for a time, eventually encountering a troupe of vampires who ran their own theatre. HERE IN CHICANERY: 

Louis was born and raised in New Orleans, where he lived a fairly happy life up until the death of his brother, Paul. He died after the two brothers had a particularly nasty fight, and they never got a chance to reconcile with each other. As a result, Louis carries a sense of guilt with him, and went through a period of time in his life when he wanted to die. His mother grew concerned for his wellbeing as she noticed more and more self-destructive behaviour from her remaining son, and Louis was in and out of therapy for a while until he finished school. He moved to the small town of Chicanery hoping to start over, though he still attends therapy sessions. He co-rents a house on the more well-off side of town. He struggles to engage socially with anyone aside from his housemates, though his biggest coping mechanisms come through music and writing. He’s had a few pieces published anonymously in the town newspaper, and occasionally plays public gigs at notable town venues such as the Laughing Lamb diner and the town community centre. He is generally a very soft-spoken and melancholy man, though he has his dramatic tendencies and is deeply caring towards those he’s close to.

Louis lives with his roommate and on-and-off boyfriend Lestat de Lioncourt. Though their relationship has its ups and downs, they are as close as two people can be and are fiercely loyal to each other, even when they’re not officially a couple. Also living with them is Lestat’s adoptive younger sister Claudia de Lioncourt, whom Louis is very fond of. However, while he only sees her like a little sister himself, he’s picked up on Claudia’s bizarre attraction to him. To his surprise, his ex-boyfriend Armand de Romanus also lives in the same neighbourhood. They haven’t seen each other in years, but Louis is still friendly with him to prevent things from becoming awkward. He hasn’t yet told Lestat that he used to date Armand. He maintains contact with town journalists Harry Mason and Elsa Frances, as well as the notable online blogger Patrick Netvor. In addition, he’s acquainted with the other members of the town’s music scene, most notably Eric Draven and Michael Emerson, though he’s fairly friendly with Anita “Needy” Lesnicki and Jennifer Check as well. He attends regular therapy sessions with psychiatrist Nancy Thompson.

LESTAT DE LIONCOURT ~ AGE: 28 ~ OCCUPATION: ACTOR/WRITER

IN A PAST LIFE:

Lestat de Lioncourt was a young aristocrat and aspiring actor, who was transformed into a vampire by one of his fans. However, his maker felt such remorse for having turned him that he committed suicide shortly after, leaving Lestat alone as a new vampire without guidance. As a result, Lestat himself transformed several people into vampires as well, including his own mother, his lover at the time (who was driven mad by the curse of vampirism and took his own life as well), and later a young man by the name of Louis. He and Louis became lovers and travelled together for a century, though when their relationship became tumultuous, Lestat also turned a dying orphan girl named Claudia who became their “daughter” in order to tie Louis to him. However, over time Claudia came to resent him and tried to kill him. He survived, but was separated from Claudia and Louis for a long time. Louis found him again some time later after Claudia had been killed, and the two made amends before parting ways once again. Lestat survived for many many decades after that, interfering once he learned that Louis had told his story to a human journalist. Some time later, he was transported to the town of Chicanery under uncertain circumstances; though it’s possible it was of his own volition.

HERE IN CHICANERY: 

Lestat was born into a high class family, though his relationship with his family is tempestuous at best. Even though he’s closest to his mother, their relationship also has its pitfalls. He has a dramatic personality, and became something of a local celebrity in his hometown for his acting abilities after he appeared on a notable locally filmed TV show. However, while he revelled in the attention for a time, he eventually had to move to the small town to Chicanery in order to escape a stalker. While there aren’t many opportunities in such a small town, he still intends to pursue his acting career. He also has starting writing fiction in his spare time, and hopes to publish a book one day. He managed to find himself a house in the more well-off section of town, though he still co-rents his place and seems to even be an outsider among the town aristocrats. He has manipulative and spiteful tendencies and is a tad full of himself, but he’s genuinely talented and loves the few people he’s close to deeply.

EDWARD “SCISSORHANDS” SHERMAN ~ AGE: 25 ~ OCCUPATION: BARBER

IN A PAST LIFE: 

Edward was a lonely young man, and the creation of a brilliant scientist who passed away before he could finish him properly. As a result, though he otherwise appeared to be a human, Edward possessed hands made out of crudely fashioned scissors. He was found alone in his creator’s empty mansion by a kindly Avon lady, and she felt a maternal need to take care of him. She took him back to her home in the suburbs and let him stay there with her and her family. As time passed, he started to garner more and more attention from the neighbours, especially once he discovered he could put his hands to good use trimming hedges and styling hair. However, over time they started to turn on him once he failed to meet the expectations they had set for him. Only the woman who rescued him and her daughter, Kim, accepted him for who he truly was. Things came to a head when he accidentally cut Kim’s hand with his scissors, and he was chased back to the house he had come from by an angry mob led by Kim’s vengeful ex-boyfriend. Kim’s ex was killed in the struggle, but Kim was able to convince the mob that Edward was dead so that they would leave him in peace. He stayed there for the rest of his days, making ice sculptures and causing it to snow in the town below his mansion. Some time later, he was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY: 

Edward Sherman is one of many young people who were orphaned at a young age and thus became wards of the state, and were put through schooling on behalf of the Chicanery foster system. When he was very young, he was raised by his loving single father, but his world was turned on its head when his father died suddenly. Though he’s very soft-spoken, shy, and antisocial, Edward is very intelligent and dedicated to his studies. As he grew older, it became apparent that he had a talent for using scissors. When he was in elementary school, this manifested through his skill with crafts, and as he reached adulthood he displayed an amazing talent for trimming hedges and cutting hair. Now that he’s finished school and lives on his own, he’s managed to get a job as a notable barber in town, and his customers speak very highly of his talents. He sometimes thinks that he only feels truly complete when he’s holding at least one pair of scissors. In his youth, he struggled with depression as he had trouble coping with his father’s death, and it’s possible that his fixation on scissors emerged in part due to his self-destructive tendencies in his teenage years. 

WHISPERS AROUND TOWN: 

Edward is very close to Jennet Humfrye, the social worker who looked after him when he was growing up in the foster system. He’s come to see her like a mother figure. He lives in the same neighbourhood as Lydia Deetz, and has sometimes run into her in passing. He can’t help but admire her from afar, picking up on the similarities between himself and her. That being said, he holds no jealousy or animosity towards her best friend and romantic interest Beau “Beetlejuice” Jaeger, and will sometimes leave him anonymous tips as to where to find critters in need of help. Edward worked an internship for groundskeeper Freddy Krueger when he was first starting out, and despite his usual gruff nature there’s still a friendly rapport between them. He also has burgeoning friendships with fellow introverts such as Thomas “Leatherface” Hewitt and Adam Frances.

RYAN “JACKAL” KUHN ~ AGE: 30 ~ OCCUPATION: HOSPITAL ORDERLY

IN A PAST LIFE:

Ryan Kuhn was the son of a prostitute, who in adulthood went mad and became a serial killer who mainly targeted prostitutes. Seeking treatment for his condition, he willingly checked himself into a mental institution hoping to receive psychological help. However, as he became more and more unhinged, it became clear that there was no helping him, and he was locked away in solitary and strapped into a straitjacket. He remained there for several years, until one day, the hospital caught fire. Ryan chose to stay in the building and be consumed by the flames. However, his ghost lingered on earth after his grisly demise, and he became part of an arcana of ghosts known as the Black Zodiac. Under uncertain circumstances, he was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY:

As far as he knows, Ryan has never actually killed anyone, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t wanted to. He’s struggled with intrusive thoughts and violent urges for most of his life, though he’s managed to restrain himself from acting upon them thus far. From a young age he internalized the pacifistic teachings of his mother, and he was deeply affected by her death. His mother died in a house fire when he was a child, and Ryan has harboured a deep seeded fear of fire ever since. He didn’t learn of his late mother’s profession until he was well into adulthood. He’s been in and out of therapy for years, and worked his hardest to make it through school and make something of himself; as his mother always believed that he would. For now, working at the town hospital is good enough for him, as it gives him an opportunity to help people, sometimes even people like him who struggle with mental health issues. He has a somewhat cold, aloof personality, though those he’s close to will uncover his dry sense of humour and drive to prove himself.

WHISPERS AROUND TOWN: 

Ryan works alongside the town doctor Hannibal Lecter, whom he both admires and envies. In addition, he is well acquainted with the hospital nurses Lisa Garland and Lucille Sharpe. He knows of the notable psychiatrist Nancy Thompson, though he only properly sees Percival “Pinhead” Orsino for therapy sessions himself. He has passing acquaintanceships with Frank Zito and Norman Bates, and could potentially befriend them. He also knows Henry Jekyll, and is one of the very few people in town who know about his seedier endeavours. He has a burgeoning friendship with Freddy Krueger. He also has been a customer of Nicholas “GraveRobber” Graves, though he must hide his drug usage lest he lose his job and the remaining stability he has.

BOBBY “BABA” DUKE ~ AGE: 25 ~ OCCUPATION: TUTOR/BABYSITTER

IN A PAST LIFE: 

The Babadook is a supernatural entity that manifests as a spirit of grief. It only torments those who become aware of its existence. It began to haunt and influence a young boy who lost his father the day he was born, as he reached the age when the loss began to affect him deeply. It wormed its way into the boy’s mind through a storybook that mysteriously appeared in his home one day. The boy’s mother tried her hardest to banish the creature and protect her son, but by doing so she opened herself up to the Babadook’s influence as well. Ultimately, she came to the realization that you can never get rid of the Babadook once it has appeared, much like grief. Through sheer strength, she managed to control the Babadook, keeping it imprisoned in the basement of the house like a pet, and thus keep her grief over the loss of her husband under control as well. Under uncertain circumstances, he was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY:

Instead of being a representation of grief, Bobby Duke is the one grieving. He’d had a fairly ordinary life, until a random accident took the life of his father the same day his younger brother was born. He took the loss hard, and was in and out of therapy a lot as a teenager after he acted out in response to his grief. He was able to find one bright spot in the form of his little brother, and through his bond with him Bobby discovered he has a soft spot for kids. He got his nickname “Baba” from the way his little brother used to say his name when he was really little, and it kind of stuck over the years. He was the number one go-to babysitter in his neighbourhood, which helped him mellow out and ultimately come to patch up his relationship with his mother. He’s still not really over losing his dad, but he’s much better than he was. After he graduated from school, he moved to the small town of Chicanery after he scoped out some tutoring jobs there at the local schools. He loves kids, but struggles to interact with most other adults. He has a somewhat goofy sense of humour, and took up playing guitar to relieve stress.

WHISPERS AROUND TOWN:

Bobby has managed to get a gig babysitting in Chicanery, and often watches Danny Torrance whenever his mother, Wendy Torrance needs a sitter for him. On top of his babysitting job, he tutors at the local schools as well as volunteers at the community centre. As a result, he’s become good friends with Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, and has close relationships with fellow tutors like Sidney Prescott and especially Edward Penn-Weiss. Being a part of the town music scene, he’s naturally caught the attention of Eric Draven and Jennifer Check, plus their social crowd that includes Anita “Needy” Lesnicki and Michael Emerson, as well as Ash Williams. Despite being somewhat shy and antisocial he is the subject of several local girls’ affections, including Angel Myers and Blair Kedward.

PAVI LARGO ~ AGE: 25 ~ OCCUPATION: SELF-PROCLAIMED POET

IN A PAST LIFE:

Pavi Largo was the youngest child of GeneCo’s CEO, and was largely in contention with his older brother to inherit the company. However, much like his brother, he lacked any qualities befitting of a CEO. He wanted to inherit the company more out of vanity than anything else, for he was self-absorbed and obsessed with both personal beauty and sex. Like the other Largo children, he used his father’s clout to get away with illegal activity; and while his brother was prone to killing people occasionally in fits of rage, Pavi was a serial killer and rapist. He had a habit of wearing the faces of the women he had killed as a fashion statement. Ultimately, after his father passed away, his sister Amber inherited the company, and it is unclear whether or not Pavi ever faced justice for his crimes. Under uncertain circumstances, some time later he was transported to the town of Chicanery.

HERE IN CHICANERY:

Pavi was born into wealth, and it shows. He still has the silver spoon firmly in his mouth, for he grew up spoiled and pampered and his father more or less let him get away with anything. As he reached adulthood, his life became comprised mainly of luxury, drugs, and casual sex, and he felt entitled to anything and everything he wanted. However, everything changed when his father caught him getting a little too aggressive with the wrong intern, and subsequently cut him off, shipping him to a mental health facility, and wrote him out of his will. Pavi has spent several months in rehab, and while it was the wake-up call he needed, he still has a lot to learn. After his father passed away, Pavi moved with his sister Amber to the small town of Chicanery. Amber hopes that the small-town atmosphere will mellow Pavi out, though if he doesn’t shape up she has every intention of letting him face legal repercussions for his actions. 

WHISPERS AROUND TOWN:

Pavi lives with his older sister Amber Sweet, and they have a fairly typical sibling relationship. To an extent, he knows that she is disgusted by him, but she’s all he really has in the world now. He attends weekly therapy sessions with Percival “Pinhead” Orsino, and they have a healthy rapport. He’s also attended consultations with Hannibal Lecter, and the doctor shows deep concern for Pavi’s mental health. He and his sister live just on the outskirts of the upper-class neighbourhood, and he often hangs around with Vladimir “Vlad” Dracula and the father of Katrina Van Tassel, as well as trying and failing to get in the good graces of Harold Desmond, the town’s mayor.

Will everybody in town regain their memories eventually? Or will they stay in a confused state, not knowing who they are?

I plan on addressing that as the plot goes on! Once there’s more characters and more relationships established in the group, there might be prompts appearing in the future concerning bits and pieces of old memories of past lives coming back to different characters in various ways. I’m not opposed to the idea that everyone in town may eventually regain their memories of their past lives.
