Useful? This heavy admittance felt like a tower collapsing on him, like the world slipping out of Atlas’ hands. Yet another genius dumbass

Jecht absolutely does keep most of his ~deeper~ thoughts on the low, because the kind of person he is, is someone who’s very conscious of what parts of him he wants to be perceived. It’s not something that came to be out of image-consciousness as celebrity, it’s always been there. He learned early on that it was the world against him, though never thought it’d be taken a step further and more literal with his arrival in Spira.

Another thing he has in common with Tidus is using part of their upbeat personality to mask their depths. Just like with his son, whenever something heavy goes on Jecht tackles it three ways: either he broods, lashes out or he acts even more boisterous than usual. Like everyone knows in the past there was a fourth option, but this isn’t about that one. Anyways, the best example of that is in Zanarkand when traversing the final temple and hearing the pyreflies reflect the events of 10 years ago when Braska’s party arrived and Jecht went on about parades and celebrations.

They just traversed the ruins of his home. He was definitely not okay. He knew by then that there’d be no going back. The only way of coping he had left was acting like everything’d be fine and like he was in his usual optimistic mood. And right afterwards he admits he’d been thinking about things for a while- likely throughout his entire journey and as soon as his thoughts shifted from returning home to saving Spira, nothing else occupied him as much. It became a matter of being the right thing to do and he quietly thought about his place in it and ways to do anything ever since. But on the surface? He acted the same as always.
