Letter to my college-international buddies!

A little less than a year ago, I packed up my belongings, not knowing what to expect and wondering if I would ever be able to make some good friends.  Now, as I am about to enter my second year, I wonder why I felt so nervous a year ago. I now realize that I have made some of my best, lifelong friends.  So this one goes to you guys, you guys know who you are. :P Thank you for showing me that home isn’t about where you are, but who you are with. Thank you for being so selfless and kind to me. Thank you for making all the simplest events fun. Thank you for sitting with me in H block(you guys know why) Thank you for not being so judgemental.  Thank you for always being there for me when I needed someone to listen. Thank you for all the crazy car rides and good food. Thank you for watching even the shittiest movies with me.  Thank you for accepting me for who I am. Thank you for making boring parties fun. You guys are such a big part of my life now that I can’t imagine and I never want to know what it would be like without you all. This first year of college had many ups and downs and I am glad that you guys were always by my side. We have made so many wonderful and crazy memories in these two semesters. Special thanks to ‘K&K’ for keeping up the late night food runs, dancing on old Bollywood songs and watching movies on Netflix I’m glad we share a sense of humour and can always find something relatable on Instagram to tag each other.  I can’t wait to see what else life has for us! Thank you so much for everything. Lots of love.

Removing toxic people from your life

Generally speaking, I am surrounded by awesome people. I have loving parents, warmhearted and caring family, and great friends. Unfortunately, I had a few toxic people in my life. Some people can be poison in your life, no matter how much you care for them.  

You lose your excitement after being with them. You feel angry, sad or depressed. They make you feel suppressed, depressed and their action affects you badly. They ignore your needs and problems. They are the toxic people in your life. Do you deserve to have them in your life? Definitely not.

You are not here to fulfil somebody’s needs. They will ignore you, they will take you as an option and then they will try to prove themselves right by blaming you for not staying in touch with them. Emotional sucker people tend to suck the positivity out of you. At times or at all times, you may feel like being judged. Keep these kinds of people away from your life. Do not owe anybody a huge explanation. Just calmly tell them that you don’t want them in your life anymore. Every moment in your life requires a choice and by choosing who you spend time with will shape your future. Keep a check of people you spend the most time with.

It can take time to determine whether a person really should be cut out of your life or not. Not everyone can be saved with love and kindness, and it’s not your job to change someone. Some relationships are challenging, and that’s okay. Some personalities clash, and that’s okay. But if a relationship is hurting you and affecting your well-being, that’s not okay. It’s not easy, but it might be the healthiest decision you ever make. Do you want to be happy? Just remove all the toxic people from your life.

Girls: It’s time for us to rule.

*If you are a girl, you are not supposed to be friends with boys* *Don’t wear such small clothes* *Don’t go out late at night* *Why are you hanging out with boys?* Being a girl definitely has its pros and cons. We are viewed as the weaker person even when we prove our strength, again and again. Being a girl takes a lot of hard work!  One of the clear cut observations of growing up in a country like India is seeing how differently girls and boys are treated. Not just in our behaviours, but in our language and even in the way we think. Girls are told to be more ‘careful’ while doing everyday things like going to the marketplace or deciding what to wear. “Her parents failed as parents”: The “The Fault of the Parent” “logic”   If parents let their daughter dress how she wants to dress, they are not automatically bad parents. That’s just not how it works. My parents raised me to be someone who loves herself, someone who values herself. Someone who makes solid choices. They raised me to be someone who knows how and when to say “no.” Someone who is dedicated, and motivated, and strong. They raised me to be someone they can be proud of.  We cannot do much about the society, but we can do a lot in checking our own response to such an attitude. You make your choice and quietly move on. You do not owe anybody any explanation on the kind of person you are. So don't react to unnecessary comments and waste your time on it. 

Yes, I am a girl and I am really very happy to be one. WHO RUNS THE WORLD? GIRLS.   I am a proud daughter, a proud sister and of course a proud individual.

Put yourself on your priority list

*I don’t have time for that* *I wish I had more time for myself* *I need some more me-time* 

ARE YOU THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN YOUR LIFE? “Me” time is something not you should feel guilty about.  It’s nothing more than taking some time to put aside your everyday routine and treating yourself to an activity that you enjoy. 

Strangely, most of us take ourselves for granted and put ourselves at the bottom of the priority list. It’s fine but sometimes there are some situations in which we must prioritize ourselves above anything else. 

If everyone around you is worthy of care and attention, then so are you. 

You will actually be a better human if you put yourself first 

Believe in yourself.

Stop saying “yes” to everyone. 

It is OK to ask for help. 

Do not allow others into your head.

Know that you are enough.

Do what you like and feel good.

Speak positively to yourself.

Ask for whatever you need.

Spread love.

Be kind and dance like no one is watching!!!

Be the best version of yourself, for your own good and for the people in your life.

When you make yourself a priority, not only do you benefit but so do the people around you. Making time for yourself should always be a priority over everything else. I’m not suggesting you ignore or abandon the needs of others. I’m saying, that you need to take better care of yourself and be the very best you can be, for yourself, and for the people in your life. You should not feel guilty for choosing to do so, as you are the most important person in your life!

Reasons why moving out of your city is important

Nothing can match the experience of living in a new place surrounded by different people and culture. At some point in your life, you need to be exposed to a new place that’s completely different from where you are used to and you will definitely learn about yourself and the people around you. Some of us move out for education while the rest of us shift in search of jobs.  Moving out can be both terrifying and exciting at the same time.  Here are some reasons why you should pack up and move to a new city at least once in your life. 

1. You’ll become independent.

You can’t always depend on the people around you to be there to pick you up when you fall. You will learn the art of adjusting. You will learn how to deal with your life problems on your own and it will make you a stronger person. 

2. Make new friends.

Moving to a new city will open door to so many friendships and you will definitely make new friends and expand your social culture. You will miss your old friends but honestly, who doesn’t want even more friends?

3. Experience new things and make new memories.

Moving away will allow you to create new experiences. There are so many new experiences and adventures awaiting you in a new place with new people if you just have the courage to go out. Diversify yourself and be open to new experiences. 

4. Push yourself out of your comfort zone. 

Moving to a new place will force you to get into a place where you are not quite as comfortable but, you might just like it. All the magic happens just outside of your comfort zone. 

5. You’ll feel free and become fearless.

Moving to a new city will give you the freedom to live the life that you’ve always wanted to. You will become fearless, daring, bold and outgoing. 

6. You will learn to say ‘NO’.

When you help someone, many times people start taking advantage of your helping nature and that’s when you learn where to draw a line.

7. You will discover who you are.

Moving to a new city where you don’t know anyone will force you to spend a lot of time by yourself. You will enjoy all the little things that you love to do. You will face your insecurities and grow as a person. You start recognizing your strengths and weaknesses. 

8. The better way to build self-confidence and you become self-sufficient.

You feel empowered and start believing in yourself. You become self-sufficient and it helps you to stay stronger during tough times. You’ll realise how much you can accomplish on your own. 

You will learn to spend your money wisely. You will definitely miss home and family and you will start respecting your parents even more. 

Taking a walk on the wild side and moving from your city will make you grow in many ways and you will learn to count on yourself. Moving away is not an easy task, but it will offer you countless lessons.

Life lessons I’ve learned the hard way

Life is the best teacher. I am 18 and I have a lot of growing left and many more life lessons to learn. I am going to tell you some of the lessons that I am going to remember for the rest of my life. 

1. Believe in yourself 

You have to believe in yourself first before anyone else ever does and you have to do it more than anyone else ever will. Always remember nothing will work if you don’t believe in yourself.

2. Forgive and forget. MOVE ON.

We all are human beings and it is in our nature to make mistakes or mess things up. I don’t see any point in holding grudges because it is exhausting. Put your past behind and heal yourself. Don’t dwell on the pain caused by others just forgive and forget and decide to move on because life will be much easier then.

3.  Letting go is hard, but sometimes necessary

Letting go can be hard because of the memories we have. We think that our happiness lies with another person and of course, it’s hard to let go of happiness. We have to realise that not everyone is meant to stay in our lives forever. Cherish the memory you have but don’t hold on too tight. 

4. Don’t expect too much

 Expecting too much can lead to unhappiness. If you really want to be happy just expect less. 

5. Everybody isn’t your friend

Some people will wish you the best, as long as your best is benefitting them. You will find out who your true friends are when you are at your lowest. People pretend well but at the end of the day, real situations expose fake people, so pay attention. 

6. Be thankful and laugh a little more 

There’s always, always, always something to be thankful for. Be thankful for who you are and what you have and enjoy everything in your life. Laugh and smile as much as you can. It’s the best feeling in the world. 

7. I am not perfect and that’s OK

We always want to fit in, we like it when we are accepted and people like us. We sacrifice our own true happiness. We are conscious, insecure, envious. We fall and make mistakes. But, imperfection is beautiful. I am not perfect and I will never be perfect but I am trying my best, I am growing and that’s enough for me.

8. It’s okay to fail

It is okay to not to be successful with every single thing you do. Failure always makes you work harder.

9. Don’t take things for granted 

Things do not make us happy, it is how we feel within ourselves that really matters. The things that truly provide happiness are usually right in front of us. What we need to do is continuously remind ourselves where we would be without them. Tell people you love them and tell them you miss them. 

10. Love yourself

Be kind to yourself. One of the most important lessons we can learn in life is to love ourselves because how we treat our self, will directly impact how we treat others. Fall in love with yourself, you are beautiful and you are worth it. Love yourself a little more there’s no reason you shouldn't 

I know there are more to come and I am ready, opened and receptive to them all.

Things that make me happy

Life is full of many ordinary moments which can give you many great comforts. Life can get crazy. We get stressed, upset, egoistic, we ignore people, stop talking to people who matter and the list goes on and on. My life isn’t perfect but I am thankful for everything I have.

Have you ever made a list of things that make you happy? Here’s a list of things that make me happy. 

Calling my parents and grandparents really make me happy. 

Listening to a favourite song on REPEAT.

Looking at old photographs and remembering my childhood days.

Receiving big hugs from loved ones.

Going back home for the holidays drives me CRRAAZYYYY!

Celebrating each and everything possible.

Going on a vacation with family. 

Going to bed early and waking up early the next day.

Good hair days.

Eating my favourite food after having a long tiring day.

Dancing.

Doing something for others. 

Receiving a text from someone special. 

Singing in the shower.

Finding money in unexpected places. 

Meeting an old friend after a long time.

Watching my favourite movie on weekend.

Exploring new places.

Aerial views from a plane.

Spending time with my favourite people and not using the phone at all.

Receiving gifts.

Making someone smile.

Playing synthesizer.

Chocolates, CHOCOLATES, CHOCOOOLATESSSS!

Going on a walk or long drive.

One thing that really makes me happy that I am alive and breathing and the list goes on...

Sometimes life can be tough, so enjoy the little things in life.
