Has anyone considered the idea that perhaps all of this *was* The Plan after all? If The Plan is indeed ineffable, then wouldn’t what Heaven thinks have to be wrong? And why would an omnipotent omniscient being just create a second world without direct interference from Heaven and Hell on the whims of an angel and a demon if that wasn’t her plan all along? Also an all-knowing being would obviously know that these were the things that were going to happen. And maybe she knew the only way that they could actually really truly ever be together was to be human.

Even though I’m a little sad about not having a kiss-kiss in season 3, I’m also not entirely disappointed. The glances, the lingering, the pauses, the looking away.. It’s so obvious that if they had kissed again, they wouldn’t have been able to go through with their decision. Which makes it even more heartbreaking, but in a healing kind of way, I think.

1. Two beings look like males but are *actually* genderless, and everyone calls them 'he' (except for when they present as females, and then they're called 'she') as they prefer and it's treated as normal.

2. One of them also denotes that they're technically not male while the other doesn't, but again, it's treated like normal.

3. Two beings also present as male and female and are called such respectively, but are also genderless.

Sorry to ruin the movie magic for some of you, but it's extremely unlikely that the shots of The Kiss are edited to be longer. Like, a million to one.

How do I know? I'm in school for filmmaking, so I'll share a bit with you.

1. The first reason is the most important. It is very difficult to edit a shot to be longer (and almost never done, especially by professionals) and not have it be obvious. It is painfully obvious, particularly to other filmmakers, when someone does actually do this. I can almost guarantee that if this had happened, other filmmakers in the industry most certainly would have called them out for it. I've personally watched the scene literally thousands of times (I'm not exaggerating) and in my semi-professional opinion (yes, I've already made my own films, though I haven't been paid for any of my work yet), it's not edited to be longer.

2. Nearly as important and launching off the above, it's much more likely - and more easily and actually often done - that it's edited to be shorter.

Additionally, there's no reason to think it would be edited to be longer when it comes to the story. It's unnecessary. The reason it looks so awkward to solve of you is because - newsflash - it IS awkward! It's meant to be awkward!

Aziraphale is caught off guard, during a moment of being about to break down, crying, in the midst of an argument. He was just rejected. He's potentially thought about this moment so many times. It is possible he thought The Metatron was threatening Crowley, which just happened only a few minutes ago! And lastly, there's literally thousands of years of feelings that haven't been spoken aloud - at least not properly, depending which theory you follow.

And there's even more depending which theories you subscribe to that support this even further.

And then, there's the fact that, at least for a moment, he kisses him back. He goes from being surprised, to resistance, to acceptance, to reciprocation, to rejection in a matter of less than 30 freaking seconds - while also portraying all the unspokenness, uncertainty, and fear of 6000 years, as well as a possible threat AND rejection of Crowley refusing to come with him ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

It's so awkward and complicated and terrible - and yet also wonderful - and Michael Sheen is honestly a fucking MASTER for the amount of emotions he's able to portray in such an insanely small amount of time. Please please PLEASE don't reduce his abilities and the beauty of the story to editing some bullshit that any filmmaker with any actual integrity would never do.

so, hi, filmmaker here, I also went to film school but that's kind of irrelevant because i do this for a living

There was more than one take, Neil has confirmed this. When he said they shot it once, he was saying they shot the scene once. It is not only highly unlikely that they used 3 cameras for different angles, it's nearly impossible. Allow me to explain.

Shooting film and shooting tv have some similarities and differences, but for the most part, film is shot with 1 camera, as is most television. When there is a second camera, it is far more rare, and usually only to get other angles on shots that would be hard to replicate (i.e. burning a building down). It's also called B cam for a reason, in that it's b-roll type footage, it's getting details maybe, but it's not the main camera. TV is generally shot the same way. When people think of using multiple cameras to shoot, they're thinking of a multi-cam TV show, which is generally a half-hour sitcom shot on a standing set facing a live audience (which is much rarer these days anyway). Most TV is single-cam.

But the glaringly obvious reason to me for why I doubt this was shot in one take with multiple cameras (besides Neil's answer) is that that's not how lighting works. Unless you're on a stage (think multi-cam) where all the lighting is overhead on a grid and it's pretty flat, you're going to be changing the lighting for each set up. Yes, that means that if you're shooting Crowley's take and then swing the camera around to shoot Azirapahle's you're almost certainly tweaking the lighting. Because it's a different angle, and that's just how it works. So it really doesn't work to shoot the same shot from multiple cameras unless the lighting is pretty flat and even, and I don't think that's the case here.

I didn't see the theory going around about editing it to be longer, but I would invite OP to reconsider their stance about editing being a bullshit way to craft the scene. I don't really edit for hire anymore, I work in other departments now, but I have a lot of respect for editors because they can absolutely make or break a project. If you're a director and you've worked with an editor who isn't very good at it, then you know the insane frustration of watching them butcher perfectly good footage. Editing is an art just like any other part of filmmaking, and it requires a sense of timing, pacing, and understanding of emotional flow. So I'm not really sure what the point was meant to be about the editing not being important in that shot or elongating it. We elongate scenes all the time by cutting back and forth, and that shot is clearly not a single take.

None of this takes away from the actors' portrayal or skills btw. It's just another part of the process.

Anyway, that's my little education lesson for the day. Feel free to ask me questions about filmmaking, I'm bored and I like my job so I'll talk about it anytime.

What I said is that it’s highly unlikely that the same shots are reused to make it appear longer. I wish I could find the OP that inspired me to make this post, but yes, there is one floating around where that OP is literally saying that the scene is edited to be longer. As in, the original cut was only like 5 seconds (yes, they actually said something like that) and was reused to make it the length it appears on screen. I don't understand people who believe that there can't possibly be a sex scene between Crowley and Aziraphale in S3 simply because "It's a family show."

Like they just forgot that the sex scene between Newt and Anathema in S1 exists?

To be clear, I'm not saying a sex scene between them will (or won't) happen. I'm just saying that that line of reasoning as to why it wouldn't is utter nonsense.

And if you think that a straight sex scene vs a (potential) gay sex scene is somehow more family friendly, you honestly shouldn't even be watching the show in the first place.

Concerning the theory of Crowley having been an archangel (or someone else very high up) prior to his fall, I've a spin theory.

I've noticed other demons don't seem to have the same memory issues as Crowley. At first, I thought it was all of them and that Crowley had simply made himself remember. However, after learning that Furfur remembered him, and how Beezlebub corrected him about the Book of Life, I think it's just him.

Which is a *very important* distinction. Why? The Metatron said that it would make it seem like an institutional problem if Gabriel fell. So, they were going to take his memory.

What if that's what happened to Crowley? What if THAT'S why he understands what's going on with Gabriel and it seems like it comes from a place of experience.

What if he stopped being the angel he was, lost his memory of that time, then Fell/Sauntered Vaguely, forcing himself to remember as much as possible? And that's why he has holes where others don't, but has knowledge he shouldn't as well.

I love that everyone always talks about how important Aziraphale lying to everyone was so important in the "Land of Uz". And they’re right.

But I don't see enough people talking about how important it is that Crawley (Crowley) never intended to follow Hell's orders. He may have gotten an angel's help, but he was always gonna screw with God and Satan's bet.

In fact, he probably volunteered just so he could fuck it up.

i've seen a lot of stuff on this recently and wanna add in my opinions bc why not. there's stuff going around about how low engagement is on fanfics and people are right, i run an edit account (shameless promotion on it rn) and write fics (more shameless promotion) and i get a decent amount of attention, don't get me wrong i love when one person engages bc that means it's reached one person.

but back when i started my edit account it peaks pretty decently, then everything started slowing down and it's really sad, as much as i tell myself not to get hurt by the little attention it gets, i put so much effort into the edits and fics, just to feel a little short changed.

i bounce from more mainstream fandoms to more niche ones, i get engagement varies based on how big a fandom is so when i get little attention on my more niche edits i get it. but when it's a larger fandom, it hurts that i don't get much attention.

when it comes to fanfics, i get kudos, same logic, smaller fandoms, less attention not the issue. the issue i have is that no one comments, i get roughly three or less than. it's not that i wanna sit there and go 'validate me strangers, validate me' it just is a little encouragement when someone says they enjoyed it and can't wait for more (and i also struggle to leave comments on fics to, it slips my mind when you get excited with new ships or just fics).

i know there a bigger issues in fandoms (and the world), but the small sense of community i get within fandoms is quite nice, i've made some mates over the past few years and it's nice, becuase some pretty good friendships come out of one share interest.

it's worrying to me that interaction in fandoms seems to have fizzled out, but also how toxic a lot of them have become, i've seen so many saying they get rude comments, there's so much discourse. i sit back and avoid shit going down in fandoms bc at the end of the day, sure it's just a fandom, but it's also a community for so many.

sure fics/edits are made for the creators, i write a lot of 'no one asked for this' fics, but that doesn't mean you can't engage, leave a comment every once in a while if you enjoyed it, show the author some love.

Rewatching bits of S1 is a revelation for the stuff in S2.

In the ark sequence, we see Aziraphale standing by and watching the preparation for the Great Flood, clearly in some state of anxiety about it. When Crawley questions him about it and says “not the kids, you can’t kill kids”, Aziraphale straight-up tells him “you can’t judge the Almighty, Crawley.”

Fast-forward to 2500BC, the first time they see each other after the flood and, once again, the lives of children are on the line. This time, Aziraphale is immediately horrified when he finds out.

This time, he doesn’t just stand there and watch. He goes and actively puts himself between Crawley and the children. When Crawley turns up, Aziraphale is still wary of him and almost falls for him saying “I want to destroy the blameless children of blameless Job”. But the second he realises the goat-kids were saved, he knows Crawley still believes “you can’t kill kids”.

That’s why he’s so convinced that Crawley absolutely won’t kill Job’s children, even when Crawley miracles up a flaming inferno to engulf the house. “Are you sure, angel?” Crawley taunts him and Aziraphale - unafraid and absolutely certain that this demon will thwart Heaven’s will - says yes.

And when those very children are in danger of being killed off by Heaven directly, to fulfil God’s will for Job to lose all his old possessions, Aziraphale lies to protect them. He’s terrified after, afraid he’s destined to fall, but he did it anyway because he wanted to protect them, just as he gave away his weapon to protect Adam and Eve outside the garden.

And I feel like this is the big turning point for him. Giving his sword away wasn’t necessarily defying orders, but because of Crawley and the Job situation, Aziraphale makes the active choice to make a stand against Heaven’s plans. He’s terrified, but he does it, and then he keeps on doing it.

Every single action he takes against Heaven is in the name of protecting people: giving Adam & Eve the sword, shielding Job’s children, trying to teach the Antichrist to be good, swan-diving out of heaven to protect earth, hiding Gabriel to keep him safe, shouting at the Archangels and Demons like naughty children when they threaten to bring a war on and now, walking back into Heaven in the hopes of beginning a revolution for the whole system.

I just had the thought that the reason why it looks like there's no reaction is that before The Metatron ruined everything, when Aziraphale heard this, he decided he would ask Crowley to stay instead and now it's my new headcanon.

HC: In the future, Crowley does things like licking or nibbling or kissing Aziraphale awkwardly, but not necessarily sexually (though it could be, who knows). But it's actually because he's a demon and a snake and he's *trying* to be romantic but doesn't really know how (echoing when he tried to be in the FF). But because Aziraphale loves him so damn much, he's into it anyway. Sometimes it makes him laugh, but Crowley loves making him laugh, so it actually makes him rather happy. And it's all just awkwardly adorable and kind of sweet.

Favorite smell: petrichor (the chemical compound that makes the smell of rain). Fun fact: humans are thousands of times more sensitive to the smell of petrichor than sharks are to the smell of blood. Scientists haven’t figured out why. Also, petrichor literally translates to “the ichor (magical blood) of the stones”.

Weird fact about me: I’m double jointed in one elbow. It’s disturbing to see.

My favorite artificial smell is warm vanilla sugar from Bath and Body works. It’s my bodywash, hand soap, lotion, and perfume. I might be a little obsessed 😅

My favorite natural scent is my dogs. That might sound weird to those of you who don’t have dogs, but all the dog people out there know what I’m talking about. Whenever I have a bad day I just stick my nose in their fur and it just makes everything so much better.

2. The weirdest fact about me that I’m willing to share is… I don’t know, I’m a really boring person honestly. I can’t whistle, does that count? I’ve tried so many times, but I just can’t do it. I don’t know what it is, everyone else in my family can whistle, it’s just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

It feels as if one were to tear open your mouth and dump a whole machine of the stuff in there; by the time you’ve figured out that no, this isn’t lemon. This isn’t something that could even be vaguely misconstrued as pleasant; it’s too late. One bite and it starts to spread throughout your entire mouth and even after you immediately spit it out it lingers and only gets stronger for a few minutes before finally fading out at peace. Hell in a bean. Than you mistake one for a lemon aND DO IT ALL AGAIN

2. I have a rare muscle condition called a multiminicore miopathy. Every doctor I've ever had has needed to google it at least once (usually while I'm sitting right there). It basically affects the mitochondria in my muscle cells and makes me physically weaker than the average person. I used to say I was a diagnosed weakling because I thought it was funny and clearer, but it only confused people more so *shrug* complicated medical words it is!

The smell that heralds summer rain. For some reason, while thinking about this I had a flashback of standing on a particular mountain and looking out onto the ocean and smelling the sea breeze. Those smells remind me of freedom.

I think lots of things about me are weird (or rather that other people perceive as weird), but it's hard to pin them down because I do not understand them myself. I guess the weird fact is that I have always felt weird, and I have never fully understood why I don't fit in anywhere, or what's "wrong" with me. O. k. this got rather sad rather quickly. Sorry bout that haha... moving on...

It's been ages since I last ate a jelly bean so I'm honeslty not sure... I think it was peach?

Phew... I dunno. I remember one I hated but I cannot for the life of me remember what flavour it was suppposed to be. It was not fruity, that much I remember.

I want to get into (digital) drawing again, I used to be o. k. at analog drawing, but last time I attempted to draw something I accidentally created an abomination. Also, I still haven't made it to Pompeii, so that's also on there (I also love Romans. I mean they were messed up. But they're so interesting. Don't get me started on Romans).

Uh, I'm not big on numbers, but I'll choose 23. It's my birthday as well as my mum's (the 23rd of another month, however). When I was 23 I had just studied in Taiwan and travelled through many countries in Asia. I was working in Beijing and on my 23rd birthday I had fancy cocktails in a nice hotel. I also went to eat hot pot with my colleagues. Good times.

Favorite smell: old books. The first old book I owned was a box set of Lord of the Rings, so all old books smell like the Shire to me.

The weirdest fact about myself that I’m comfortable sharing: the “examish” in the url refers to having been Old Order Amish until the age of seven. If you’re not familiar with the concept… I don’t know how to quite explain. Conservative religious group that has stayed pretty much exactly the same since the 1800s. I could talk about them for hours, but I don’t know where to start. Questions are quite welcome. Think monogamous German pacifist Mormons who ride around in retired-racehorse-pulled buggies, don’t use electricity, and have no real idea what they believe. The main economy in the area is the farming they do and the tourists who come to look at them.

Most interesting thing on my to-do list: read and comment on the first 300 pages of my best friend’s fantasy book. She’s writing book 4 right now, and also madly studying for her APs because her acceptance at Cambridge is only valid if she scores high enough. The scores don’t come back until a month before she would need to leave for England. So. If she doesn’t score high enough, she won’t be able to go to college this fall at all.

Seventeen. It’s the smallest prime number that’s interesting without unlucky connotations. I have a feeling that once I have a favorite Doctor, that will determine my favorite number with a high degree of permanence.

On to the game:

1. Favourite smell: this is hard because I'm very olfactory driven - best I can do is top 3. 1. Nature scents, especially petrichor, the ocean, and jasmine. 2. Nearly anything fruity, especially pineapple, oranges, or peaches. 3. Spices/baking, especially cinnamon, pumpkin, or vanilla cupcakes. Literally any of these things will make me incredibly happy. Ironically, I hate eating peaches but love the smell of them.

2. Weird fact: I have hyperphantasia and use it to create all my writing - so if I write GO fanfiction, for example, I'll literally see and hear it completely in David and Michael's voices as Aziraphale and Crowley exactly how they'd do it. But I can do it to the point that I've used Alex Kingston, for another example, to play a character in my head that I created for an original story. I've done it lots 🫣😂 Pretty much any time I write anything, I assign actors to the roles of the characters in my head, either by using actual ones or people I know in real life, and imagine everything I want to happen, then edit it in my head until perfect and then I write it (and sometimes edit it again while writing or after).

3. Favourite flavour of jellybean: I'm really not much for jellybeans at all, but maybe bubblegum? Idk, I haven't had any in years, that I recall. I would rather have something just as - or possibly more - controversial: dark chocolate. 😂

4. Least favourite - any, really, probably. I could go my whole life not eating another and not be bothered. But as the flip to the above, I'm not a big fan of milk chocolate. I'd often rather white if I couldn't have dark, unless it's the extra creamy kind or Milka brand.

5. I'm just wearing black socks with a neon trim, one pink, one blue. But side note, I don't like matching socks usually and would go barefoot all the time if possible (which it never will be where I live because I live in one of the coldest states in America).

6. Immediate to do list would be a poetry portfolio for my final, which is due next week. Long term is to get my degrees and become a successful writer and filmmaker.

7. 24 is my lucky number. It's the day I was born, but also was my jersey number when I played softball in high school.
