Mister Miracle #1 Review

Right off the bat I gotta say this has to be my favorite comic I’ve read in a long time.  In fact, I believe the last time I said that was after reading Omega Men and I think Tom King has topped himself with this comic.  This will be part summary, part me relating to the story, and part me theorizing about the future for this series.

An Addendum: I think I figured out the “kid drawing god” thing! In this story there are strong themes of nature vs nurture. Orion and Scott being the living treaty between their two worlds is ostensibly a nature vs nurture experiment. Orion is aggressive by his Apokoliptian nature but fights for the good of New Genesis per his upbringing. Scott is born of New Genesis but was raised on Apokolips. This should have gone one of two ways; his good nature is corrupted and now fights for evil or he is beat down by Granny Goodness, gives up, is compliant, and serves for the glory of Darkseid. But no, he defies all odds and becomes the best escape artist ever!

Another aspect of Scott is that he is a god. When that boy is drawing what god looks like, the teacher says he can’t because no one knows what god looks like. The boy replies, “Until now.” This ties back to nature vs nurture. Orion defies his nature by fighting for New Genesis. Scott defies his nurture by escaping Apokolips. He alone determines who he (a god) is (looks like). He asserts that he is more then the sum of his parts.

This is just a big “fuck you” to any sort of determinism. It’s what he does for a living too. He puts himself in a death-trap where predetermined outcome is the loss of his life and he escapes in an impossible fashion. There is this unspecified factor that can’t be measured that no one was counting on that allows him to live free. This is the opposite of Darkseid’s Anti-Life. Which robs free will the same way pre determinism does.

I'm really sorry to bother you but this suddenly popped into my head while i was eating oreos, is Martian manhunter's obsession over oreos canon? Or is it just a popular headcanon? If you're too busy to answer i understand :) BTW I love your blog so much♡ Thankyou so much for running this blog!

Oh you’re not bothering me at all.  Martian Manhunter’s obsession with Oreos is 100% canon.  The only thing is in the DCU they call them “Chocos” to avoid copyright issues.  J’onn has an actual physical addiction to the sandwich cookies.  You should look up the wiki for Martian Manhunter #24

The summary is certainly worth a read.  J’onn continued his obsession with Chocos for over a decade up until present day.  When the Martian Manhunter died during Final Crisis, Batman placed a single Choco cookie on J’onn’s coffin.  Later, during Brightest Day Guy Gardner gave J’onn a large cooler filled with Chocos alongside a gallon of milk.  He did this to congratulate Martian Manhunter on coming back to life at the end of Blackest Night.
