Since we are now free to post it, here is the comic @thrashbeatles and i made for @thegraveravers Tales From The Zones anthology. We made a glossary, in the loosest sense of the word, and had a blast doing it. cheers! 🕺🕺

i think benson is like those dogs that zoos pair bond with baby cheetas so they don't die from anxiety in captivity. and randy is the cheetah.

Randy is a sopping wet dog who’s recently been bathed or caught in heavy rain.

Benson is a dog who rolls around in mud and dirt. Who even pursues coyotes out of bounds from his neighborhood, his house.

ok but randy having someone stroking the back of his neck being basically an off-button. It happens more or less accidentally the first time. They're sitting in a booth at a diner, Benson rests his arm on the back of Randy's seat and at some point absentmindedly strokes the back of his neck, running his fingers through the short hair there, just enjoying the sensation without really noticing what he's doing. What he does notice is Randy's eyelids fluttering as he's trying to stay focused. Cause really, Randy just wants to close his eyes. He can feel his facial muscles relax and how his head wants to drop forward, how he wants to arch into it like a cat. "You okay there Randy?", comes Benson's quiet drawl. He stops the stroking, now that he's focused. He still hasnt noticed that that is what's doing this to Randy, hasn't even been aware that he was doing it. "Hm?" Randy had been kind of staring at the tabletop, drifting off. "What? Yeah, 'm fine." Benson grips Randy's neck and gives him a little shake. "Good."

It takes Benson a while and Randy a few beers (like one, he is such a leightweight) for Benson to notice what's happening and for Randy to relax enough to actually close his eyes and lean into it.

They never officially acknowledge it, but it becomes a habit after that. When they're sitting together in the evening, relaxed, Benson will take the chance to get his little sassy drawn-eyebrows-Randy to be sweet and pliant and quiet for him.

While it's never truly discussed, Benson does tell him eventually that Randy better not give him any more lip or he will use his fuckin' off-button, don't test him. Maybe after he actually scruffs Randy like an unruly kitten he will start gently stroking his neck, murmuring: "There, isn't that better now?" And Randy wouldn't admit it, brat that he is, but it is better like this.
