Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder
Walking on Thin Ice
I have always wanted to be a rational person.
I promised my self to never loose my way, always focused on my goals. But what does really matter? What my goals should be? How am I supposed to understand what’s best for me when this world is making life shorter and shorter? We have to struggle to appear better than the others, with great references and experiences.
But what about those things that don’t go on the CV?
In the Desert of the heart, Let the healing start; In the prison of his days, Teach the free man to praise.

COUNTDOWN
COUNTDOWN.
Dicono che andare all’estero ti faccia crescere e cambiare dentro.
COUNTDOWN. AGAIN.
It feels just like yesterday that I was doing the countdown in the hot afternoons of August. The departure was getting closer and a pinch of fear didn’t allow me to sleep well. The fear that the “Ciaos” would have become farewells, that what was hot would have become cold and that distance would have meant loss. However, I used to get up every morning with a sense of euphoria sparkling from my skin. Curious and impatient to discover what life was going to offer me in the following months. In a different country, with different people, all to understand. They say that going abroad makes you grow up and changes you deeply inside. I don’t know if this did really happen. What I am sure about is that who loves me back home has always been close, and who I learnt to love here will always be in my heart. Future seems to be a little bit more clear now, my dreams are always there, hanging by a thread, while my wishes change like seasons. Now I find myself here again, with the same laptop, the same glasses and longer hair, doing the countdown of the days that takes me far from home. The feelings are almost the same: excitement and fear, melancholy and joy. And now.. what am I to be? Will my life restart from the same point? Or a part of me has been taken and will never come back? I guess I will find it out living day per day, hoping that, in the near future, my greatest wishes will look like the seasons in some African countries: always warm, burning and unvarying.

A MUDDLE OF FEELINGS aka Un groviglio di sentimenti
Spending a semester abroad means leaving in an incessant contradiction. Out of the blue, you find yourself swaying from a great enthusiasm for everything new to the nostalgia for what you left behind.
You get by enjoying indelible moments with people you have been known for few weeks, while in idle times you give thought to those who are at home. The heart splits itself up in two parts and with every day that passes by, you begin to discover aspects of you that have been hidden for years. You learn to be patient, open-minded and honest. Time is short and it’s important to understand who are those people you want to spend time with in order to create an opportunity that will grow in something special.
Emotions are so contrasting that till now I preferred the audacity of the pictures to the artifice of words. This weekend was an incessant discovery and writing about it has become a real need.
The more the days pass by, the more the doubts about my future become demanding and insistent. Despite this, I’m fine and happy. After all, there’s nothing that tajine, mint tea and a bunch of friends can’t solve!
