Temperament:
Preacher, despite his scary appearance, is one of the most friendly and loving canines at the rescue. Heâs extremely powerful, protective of his people, and will never leave their side no matter what.Â
Preacher is sweet, friendly, gentle and affectionate. He is a very active dog that loves anyone and everyone, including dogs and other animals. Heâs very playful, energetic and is one of the goofiest dogs you could ever ask for. His intimidating appearance can be difficult to see past upon first meetingsâŠ.But he will do nothing more than kiss you to death if given the chance.Â
He's incredibly intelligent, agile, and absolutely loves to learn. He learns quickly and is always happy to pay attention and learn new tricks, despite sometimes not picking it up right away on the first try.Â
History:
Preacher was born and bred in an underground dog fighting ring in a very rough part of town. However, due to his gentle and kind temperament, he was used as a bait dog to train the more aggressive dogs on the compound. After managing to survive several years of severe abuse, he was dumped on the side of the road and left to fend for himself.Â
He was found by a passerby, cowering under a bridge after starving for several weeks. When they called the local rescue, the team went out to try and find him, however after arriving on scene and expecting an aggressive, snarling canine, the massive Pitbull hid between their legs in a desperate cry for help.Â
It took several months for his wounds to heal and for him to get back to a proper weight again, but once Preacher was healthy and happy, he was finally put up for adoption.Â
Now, Preacher is patiently waiting in the shelter to find his forever person, entertaining the staff on a daily basis with his goofy personality and friendly nature. He has been taught how to properly walk on a leash without dragging his handlers, knows all basic commands and has even learned some more advanced tricks, certain to keep anyone who decides to take him home entertained.Â
The male paused, tail giving a slight wag at the man sitting on the ground. Seeing the outstretched hand, he happily trotted right up to Atem, tail wagging as he sniffed curiously before licking those outstretched fingertips. It seemed the man had found a friend, the canine gladly wiggling his way right up to the other to begin placing friendly, excited yet slobbery kisses upon his face.Â

Cowboyâs separation anxiety, while not destructive to his ownerâs home, can be a little bit of a problem when they go to leave the house due to the fact that he will plant his butt right in front of the door and look up at them as if begging them to take him along.Â
If left in the house alone, however, Cowboy will whine and cry for his owners as long as theyâre gone, though he will sit right in front of the door in the process, waiting for them to return. This can go on for as little as ten minutes or as long as ten hours, he wonât stop crying for them until they return and if his owners discover this behavior, it may come as a bit of a surprise to them.Â
The dog happily wagged his tail and let Ayame pet him, reaching up to lick his hand and giving an excited little while before promptly sitting on his haunches and lifting a paw, happily placing it right into the manâs hand without a second thought. Warm eyes looked up at the snake with an expression of pure and simple âI just met you and I love youâ, and upon closer inspection the words on his bright green bandanna read âAdopt Me!â
Despite how energetic heâd first been, Cowboy had settled into a quiet manner in seconds, tail still thumping against the floor as he simply sat still with his paw in Ayameâs hand and justâŠ.Looked up at him, giving a soft tilt of his head.Â
Ayame noticed the bandana and his eyes widened. Adopt me, eh? So someone had left this cutie patootie here for him to adopt? Would Shigure get jealous if he adopted a dog?
Oh, if they were well behaved, he wouldnât mind so much, but he had to think of the shop tooâŠ
He didnât know what to do.
Except lead the dog inside and see what happened, so he opened the door for him and let him in.
A few moments after the door was opened, Cowboy wagged his tail and walked inside, curiously exploring the shop and getting himself familiar with his new surroundings, nose twitching as he took in the different scents and sights within the space. Â
Once he had gotten a basic idea of what and where everything was, the dog returned to Ayameâs side and nuzzled his hand, sitting down right next to him as though it was the most natural thing for him to do. Leaning against the side of the snakeâs leg and staying there, mainly just wanting his attention and affection.Â
On his collar, the number of an animal shelter was clear as day. âIf found, Please Contact Blue Paws Rescue At xxx-xxx-xxxxâ. Perhaps someone hadnât left him, but rather he had managed to find Ayame on his own...Which may have been even weirder.Â

Gaara stared for a few seconds before reaching out his hand to offer it. "...I won't hurt you."
Instead of being at all nervous or wary of the young man, however, the canine instantly began to wag his tail and reached out, licking Gaaraâs hand for a moment before sitting own and looking up at him, an invitation to be petted. Sitting on his haunches, tail thumping happily against the ground, simply waiting for some attention.
It was a usual day at the shelter and one of the handlers was currently walking out to meet someone who had called in earlier to ask about adopting a dog. Smiling, she moved to greet them with a friendly wave.Â
âHi, are you the one who called about wanting to adopt one of our rescues?â She inquired curiously, holding a hand out for them to shake. âPleased to meet you, my name is Molly, itâs nice to meet you! Now, would you mind telling me a little bit about what youâre looking for in a dog today?âÂ
âWeep and ask for help. Lean on me with your runny nose. Cry when you feel like crying. Laugh when you feel like laughing. When youâre tearing up with an ugly face, Iâll give you a good cry with an uglier face. When youâre laughing so hard your stomach hurts, Iâll laugh in a louder voice. Thatâs how it should be. Itâs far better to get dirty while living true to yourself, than to throw away yourself and die a clean death.â
The male gave a confused whine and tilted his head, blinking slightly in the process. What was this guy talking about? He didnât understand most of it, not because he was stupid but because it came out of nowhere. How was he supposed to react to that?
