Butte College has some really nice hiking trails and a garden, and some goats.

The " Lockheed P-2V Neptune", was a Maritime anti-submarine warfare (asw) aircraft. Designed for the U.S. Navy, the P-2V replace the PV-1 Ventura. The P-2V was a hunter and, Destroyers were employed as the killers in the "hunter killer" group. Here are the tools a P-2V used to detect submarines. - Sonobuoys, launched from the aft portion and monitored by radio.

- AN/ASQ Magnetic anomaly detector was fitted in the extended tail.

-A belly mounted AN/APS-20 surface search radar. Enabled detection of surfaced and snorkeling submarines.

-this model also featured a spotlight on the right hand wing. You can see it in the second picture along with the extended tail.

-The P-2V was powered by two Wright R-3350 radial engines, as well as two Turbojet Westinghouse J34-WE-36. (which are not on this aircraft).

By the early 1970s the P2s were replaced with the P-3A and p-3Bs. However, the P-2v Neptune continued to fly as air tankers to fight wild fires, a large majority were retired as air tankers in 2007.
