ADHD and Hypnosis
Those who have ADHD make great subjects!
I have ADHD. And I work with several people who have ADHD, as well.
A comment I hear, or read often, is “I have ADHD, so I don’t think I can be hypnotized.”
No. That’s not true.
There are many, many methods for inducing hypnosis, the most common one, relaxing, doesn’t usually work well on those with ADHD.
But there are many other methods.
The ones I like best are the methods that have the subject interact with me, such as Yes Set, Word Association, or verbal Left-Right inductions.
The subject is interacting, kept focused on me.
Hypnosis is not a state of relaxation. It’s a state of focus.
And I want to keep their focus on me. On responding to me.
And I can use that focus to bring them in trance.
Once they are in trance tapping into their Hyperfocus can be amazingly easy.
But, even if their mind flits away, distracted by something, that’s perfectly okay. Because I know their mind will come back to me when I ask them to respond.
As I mentioned above, I also have ADHD. I like going into trance.
However I find that if my hypnotist tells me a story for twenty minutes, they’ve lost me after the first three.
Their voice becomes a lovely drone in the background as my mind floats, bouncing off different thoughts and ideas. And enjoying being in trance.
Because being in trance is enjoyable.
And I like my subjects to enjoy their trance as well.
If their mind floats away, that’s okay. I won’t let it float too long, unless the goal of the trance is to let them float.
I’ll ask a question and repeat it until they respond.
In my experience, the subjects I’ve worked with who have ADHD have wonderfully responsive minds. After all, we tend to be quite creative and spontaneous and hypnosis can easily tap into those.
I saw someone recently apologize for having ADHD while looking for a hypnotist.
If you have ADHD, your brain is not an issue when it comes to hypnosis. You simply need to find the right hypnotist who can adapt to your brain and the way your brain works.
Can you be hypnotized if you have ADHD?
Yes.
In fact, I made a short video discussing ADHD and Hypnosis.
I also show examples of three ADHD friendly Inductions, hypnotizing Kael and Caleb, who both have ADHD.
