It's a little bit rushed because honestly I haven't been feeling like arting much but I did manage to do second day- Huh, what? The composition here looks familiar you say? You ask if this is a reference to something?? No I don't know what you're talking about sorrgy

I can not believe it's March already!! I'm going to be honest I don't know if I can or even want to participate much in this year's art month, so I decided I could at least make something a bit different for the first day (specially since Noodleflies are so simple, and I had no idea what to draw loll)

After some not-so-reasonable hours of procrastination and work on side projects I finally finished an updated reference sheet for my sona!! With small changes in the design, including my shorter hair and better references for small details, it also comes with a new name!!! Wao!!!

A little bit of a style experiment! It... doesn't look that much different from my usual style does it... Art process ramble below!

To be prefectly honest I'm a bit dissapointed, the initial idea was trying to go for a very specific style I've seen a lot: thick outlines with mostly consistent width, and an overall soft and warm look I don't think I quite achieved. However, I do like the few things I attempted while trying to emulate that

First of all my sona's colors were changed to be more saturated and slightly lighter, her color palette is normally pretty dull (on purpose!) so I had to change that if I wanted the portrait to give more "warmth". From references I had I saw that pure black was completely avoided so, since my sona's colors are pretty monochome (only shades of brown for the face) I chose a dark purple as it would contrast nicely (and if you haven't realized, I Like Purple lol). Perhaps more notably is how I used the same outline color for the shirt; I was thinking of it as how pixel art with limited palettes work, the shirt would normally be just dark grey or "contextual" black while still a lighter color than the outline but I just used the outline as it would make the whole image look simpler and more cohesive, similar thought process went into the little highlight in the nose, which reutilizes shade of brown of the face and inner ears. Another decition was making the shading pretty minimal outside of the stylized hair highlights which I also saw helped with a soft and cartoony look.

Anyways- I might not be as convinced with this but I think the most important lesson I learned is to be looser with a character's colors.. I tend to always stick veeeery closely to the source material or original color palette and later rely in layer effects and such, which now I realize might be a huge detriment sometimes so, it was not for nothing!!
