Buffy noticed the raise of her eyebrow. That had to be a good sign, right? She seemed calm enough, but that could change in an instant. Buffy had to be weary, even if she wanted to jump to her aid.
“I-You…” This was going to be harder than she thought. “The last time we spoke, you were more with the fighty and less with the talky.” She quipped back. And then, gentler, “It was to keep us both safe.”
“I can take them off if I know you wont-” she sighed, “I really don’t feel like tending to any more wounds today.”
“I don’t think I’ll get violent? I don’t want to. I mean I do, but I also don’t? If I’m being honest, I’m feeling a lot of complicated things right now that I don’t understand.” She admitted, a lot more open than Faith had ever been. She could tell that she knew Buffy from somewhere. That she trusted her in some way, but also feared her. And felt a lot of other things about the blonde that were much harder to pin down. Guilt, anger, affection even. And more. It was all incredibly confusing.
Buffy believed her. She wasn’t quite sure why, but she did. “That’s okay. Complicated is good. Complicated is on the right track.” Buffy reached out, carefully untying her wrists, careful not to touch her. She didn’t want to push any boundaries. Not yet.
Instead she finished undoing the knots and stepped back. Not too far, but enough that she hoped Faith wouldn’t be able to tell how unsure she was. “A lot has happened, but I promise you that you are in the right place now.” And then, quieter, “You’re safe.”
