Ive been playing around with this idea in my head for a while. Ive been wanting to get into writing fanfiction and wanted to understand and think thru what the psychology of Johnathan Cranes addiction to fear would be. I specifically like the version that fried his nervous system from fear toxin abuse, so i worked from there.

Jonathan sat on the couch in his office. Calm melodies played on the small radio he kept. There was no more work to be done, no files to sort, patients to see. For all intents and purposes he should have been relaxed. His mind should mirror the tranquility of his environment. Yet no matter how much he commanded it, he could find nothing of the sort. His heavy eyes refused to close, instead fixing themselves on the door. Waiting for unrest to find him. Waiting for danger to strike. He had barely slept the past few nights, a mix of paranoia and his unyielding fixation on improving his new batch of toxins.
His attention shifted to the vial in front of him now. Angry amber liquid bubbling, seething within its confines. It called to him, reaching out promising security in its poison. Who was he to deny his creation? With reverent hands he prepared the vial in his aerosol dispersion device. He set it against his mouth, and took a deep consuming breath.
 The thick gas filled his mind just as it did his lungs. Visions. Sweat. Blood pounding. The once sweet songs playing morphed into millions of nails on chalk boards, millions of screams, millions of children crying. Jonathan let the hallucinations wash over him. His hands stuck in a white knuckle grip on his dark slacks. The paranoia began to shift into something much more visceral and present as he absorbed all that the vial would give him. He tried to focus on the feeling, the sweet adrenaline coursing through his veins, but the more he forced his mind to bend to his will, the more hollow it all felt. There once was a time even a much smaller dose would send him into a savage frenzy. Tearing through the streets of Gotham searching for a fight. His intellect replaced with animal instinct. Now he was left with a mild anxiety at best.Â
The fear seemed to fade as quickly as it had come. In a fit of rage he took the empty vial and hurled it at the adjacent wall. It exploded upon impact, sending shards of glass throughout his office.Â
FUCK
His thoughts grew even louder than before, mind moving faster than he could keep up with. If his precious toxin turned inward would not sate his wicked desires, perhaps inflicting some of the terror he so craved would. He kneeled behind his desk and lifted one of the slats of ancient wood, revealing a duffle bag containing everything he would need to set Gotham into a frenzy.
Scarecrow is easily an A-List villain and it saddens me that so many fans put him as B or C-Lister when heâs clearly better than that, especially more-so after the recent Fear State. Heâs proven he can be a star villain of a videogame, heâs unmasked Batman in MULTIPLE cannons and heâs literally a mirror to Bruce Wayne. Both instill fear, but in different ways.
I completely agree, but i think people put him in that category because too often hes used as more of a minor plot device to delve into the psyche of bruce wayne rather than actually treating scarecrow as a character with complex motivations and history. Example being the kings of fear run.
I want so badly for Johnathan crane to get more characterization other than just âoooh spooky guyâ
In times of widespread Leon-hysteria, it's important to represent a camp where a giant, long-haired zombie doctor in a coat and steampunk mask objectively wins in charisma.
