Syfy released the official trailer for @magicianssyfy Season 4 last Friday and I am SO stoked! @levgrossman’s ‘Magicians’ trilogy remains to be one of my favorite works of “adult fiction,” and I think showrunners @seragamble and John McNamara created a show that is at once original and immensely familiar. It looks like they are going to have a lot of interesting conversations about power and policing this season, which I’m so here for. There is a Josh-Margo kiss, what? Alice and Julia call for a rebellion? And I cannot wait to see the duality @halebofosho will surely bring to Eliot. And that is the thing with THE MAGICIANS, it keeps outdoing itself with each year. Because I was meeting @beckyalbertalli and @adamsilvera for the first time. Because after four (4!) years of talking and building genuine friendships online, we finally got to hug and hang out. There is a line in @adamsilvera’s MORE HAPPY THAN NOT that goes, “But I always want to know you, even if we’re in the same room and you're just saying hi to me over and over again, I'll be perfectly happy. I'll always want to be sitting across from you.” And it perfectly captures how I feel about Adam and his work. I love how he writes everyday moments with a severe awareness of human connection. I recently finished an ARC of THE SACRIFICE BOX by @martin_j_stewart (thank you @prhinternational!) and here is a short review: Moody and atmospheric, THE SACRIFICE BOX is a look on friendship and childhood and wanting a way out. It is gripping, and the author thoughtfully balances spooky and disquieting with well-placed humor. I also think the use of the physical manifestations of fears and other messed up things in the dark recesses of the human mind is a clever metaphor for how tangible and crippling our fears—our painful, deepest fears—can sometimes feel. Reminiscent of ‘It’ and Stephen King in general, I definitely recommend Stewart’s sophomore novel for fans of the genre. ——— Side note: I had the boldness to read this at 3am. Nope. Do not do this kids.
