Three times | Mckirk
@allbutpunniless prompt: uhura discovers/suspects jim&bones are more than friends (based on real subtle stuff) and confronts jim after he and bones have had (or are in the middle of) a huge fight. iâm such a sucker for depth and he-is-my-entire-world-*tenderness* behind a cavalier/macho facade :))))) longtime not-really-secret-but-really-discreet established relationship Mckirk
Uhura had always had a nose for gossip, or so people said. Uhura had always said she had a nose for mystery, not gossip. So it shouldnât have been a surprise that she was the first to work it out.
The first time she had ever suspected anything between her two friends and colleagues, they hadnât been friends and theyâd barely been colleagues. It was during the shit storm that was the Narada when she was busy preventing her suicidal Vulcan from well, the obvious. So at the time sheâd barely even noticed, at least not till much much later. Spock had been on the transporter pad, and sheâd been there for him, to send him off and wish him luck. Then there was Jim, standing alone and lost while Spock had had her. Or so sheâd thought. Theyâd gone, taking her heart with them. Sheâd turned to leave, to be useful and jolted in surprise. There, standing in the shadow of the door, was McCoy, his face broken in grief and sorrow. Sheâd not known him well enough to comfort him, nor had she known why he needed it. With decisive steps sheâd left the room and with everything that followed, that small moment had escaped her mind.
The second time was months into their mission. She was now of course friends with Dr McCoy, whom sheâd begun to feel comfortable enough to call Len while off duty. But despite Jimâs best efforts, she had not struck up the same rapport with Jim as rest of the command team. Sulu and Jim sparred weekly, with more than a few spectators. Jim and Scotty could often be found doing something suspicious down in engineering. Chekov and the Captain had bonded over Russian vodka, and well complex problems that only Spock seemed to understand. McCoy had been putting up with Kirk for years, and surprisingly after an awful start Spock and Jim had bonded over chess. Uhura however found that first expressions where hard to shift, not to mention she had always believed that it was wrong to see your superiors as your friend. There had been an awful away mission (before it had become a common occurrence), and McCoy and several others had been seriously injured. Sheâd come, armed with some cheer up holos, when sheâd come to a screeching stop before entering the small curtained area where she knew Leonardâs bed resided. The cause of her screeching stop, was none other than Jim Kirk. As she peered through the curtain she felt her mouth gape slightly. The Captain, who was brash, rash and cared for appearances, was slumped forward in the uncomfortable hospital chair, his folded arms cradled his head as he leant on the table. It was a position that had her wincing. She caught Leonardâs eye, who although looked beaten up and rather grumpy, looked relatively normal, he placed a bruised and broken finger to his cracked lips.
Leonardâs hand moved from where she thought Jimâs hand rested, and beckoned her forward.
âHe was worried,â Leonard said quietly.
Uhura quirked her eyebrow, âas we all were.â
Perhaps,â he said. âAt least I wonât be allowed on any more away missions, thank God.â
The second time had caused her to wonder, she had watched them closely, wondering if, perhaps, there was more than two close friends. Sheâd voiced her thoughts to Spock more than once, but, as he frequently told her, the nuances of human emotion frequently, and completely, sidestepped him. It had been the third time, months later, that had finally made her ask.
The third time was not long after. She had not forgotten the tenderness sheâd seen, and, almost unknowingly, it had influenced her feelings towards Jim. She knew now that Jim deserved tenderness, deserved closeness and above all that he deserved her respect.
âIâm not talking about it now,â Leonard snapped roughly, Uhura stopped, not wanting to interrupt whatever bollocking her was giving.
âBones, please,â Jim pleaded. Uhuraâs gasp caught in her throat, there was no mistaking the fact those two were in a relationship now. She could feel it in the air. She peered round the corner at Jimâs broken expression and Leonardâs furious one.
âJames, I said no.â
âLeonard,â Jim said, holding out her hand. Leonard brushed it aside and strode out, leaving Jim standing dumbly, his hand dropping to his side.
âSo you and Leonard,â Uhura said, rounding the corner. Jim jumped before rubbing his face roughly.
âNot any more, it would seem,â he said, trying a half smile but performing more of a grimace.
âOh, Jim,â Uhura bit her lip. âItâs okay,â she said softly wrapping her arms round him. âItâll be okay.â
We made it | McKirk
Prompt response to: âI never imagined that I would make it this far, to be honest"
McCoy couldnât remember how long heâd been running. He couldnât remember if it had been minutes, hours or years. He was leaning more to years. Heâd always hated running. His legs burnt, his throat was clogged with gasped half-breaths. He ignored the whizz and whosh of phaser blasts at his feet. He looked at the bobbing blond head in front of his and imagined slamming the infuriating kid into a wall. That spurred him on.
âBones,â the kid called. And,like a well trained dog, he followed the kids sideways dash into a well hidden cave. McCoy hadnât even known it was here. But then again, he was having a hard time seeing past the blackness taking over his vision.
His hands found the wall and with a gasp he fell forward against it. His chest heaved up and down and he was desperately parched. He wasnât as young as he used to be. When he was no longer seeing stars, he became aware of a soothing hand trailing down his back. He glanced back at the kid who, although flushed from the run, look inexplicably chipper. He wanted to curse at him but he couldnât find the energy (or breath) to do so. Instead, he leaned into the touch, so very thankful to have Jimâs touch after weeks of believing him to be dead.
âShh, Bones,â Jim whispered calmly, although his eyes jumped erratically around the small space. âWeâre okay, youâre alive.â
McCoy could hear the wonder in that statement, the utter disbelief that he himself shared.
McCoy turned to look at him, wincing at the bruises that marred his face, the stubble that Jim found itchy and annoying. He lost his breath again.
âYou know, I never thought Iâd make it this far, to be honest,â Jim said conversationally, but McCoy, who had always known his kid the best, knew the hopelessness and pain that lined that statement. He turned, letting Jim gently cup his face.
âMe too,â he whispered. He had been sure that he would die in that place, the godforsaken, rat infested shithole. He had been sure Jim was dead and even more sure that if so, he would join him happily rather than live without him. He couldnât put it into words, he didnât have the breath or the time, so instead he did what he had been longing to do, he crashed his lips against Jimâs chapped ones. They fell together in desperation, his tears and Jimâs mixing as they held each other tight, not believing still that theyâd escaped, that they were safe, that they would live.
Closed eyes (Mckirk / angst)
Jim Kirk has been in desperate situations before. I mean Tarsus was a bitch. Frank had been pretty shit. The whole Vulcan thing was a frigging mess from start to finish. Not to mention, you know, dying. But none of that compared to holding the person he held dearest, who was choking and spluttering on blood, as he died.
Heâs cradled in his arms, the same position they have spent rare nights in their rooms, cradling each other as they watched a holo-movie. The position is familiar, and itâs muscle memory that has his arm pulling his lover tighter. The way his hair smells is the same as itâs always smelt.
But, he canât fool himself. He can smell the acrid stench of blood. He can feel it drying uncomfortably on his skin. He can feel stuttered breath against his neck. He can feel it all. But he canât see it. His eyes are squeezed so tight shut that heâs seeing pops of colour erupting behind them. He wonât open them. He hasnât opened them since he took us this position. To open them is to accept the situation. He wonât ever do that.
Chekov has gone to get help. Spock will not stop until they are back aboard. Scotty will do everything he can to overcome the communication issues.
But he can not be captain. He can not be a leader, a fighter or anything else. All he can be is a desperate and terrified man. Because he knows- oh god he knows- that Bones is bleeding far too much, has been unresponsive for far too long, for everything to be alright. He knows that if he opens his eyes he has to accept the reality that Bones will never open his.
So he squeezes them tighter. He rocks. He pleads with whatever God is up there.
And he pretends he doesnât notice when he canât feel Bonesâ breath on his neck.
If magic can regrow bones why can't Harry have his eyes fixed?

An Interview with Hermione Weasley.
On: her recent move into magical law enforcement, children and her husbands rehabilitating injury.Â
By Rita Skeeter
It has been many years since I last met with Mrs Weasley (then Miss Granger) and Iâm surprised to see almost no change in her appearance. Her hair, then memorable for its remarkable bushiness, has simply been scraped back into a messy bun. The ink spots that used to fleck her face still do, but made with more expensive ink, no doubt.Â
Mrs Weasley (30 and married to Ronald Weasley, a former auror) has recently shocked the wizarding community by making a sideways (and backwards) move into the DMLE from the department for magical creatures. âIt was time for a change. Iâve spent the last twelve years fighting for the rights of magical creatures. The department and I have made fantastic progress improving the lives of House Elves, Werewolves and Vampires. That work will not stop, and I will continue to support them from my new department.âÂ
I ask then what I am sure you are all thinking, âyou were tipped to be the Head of the DMC when Fringle retired next year.âÂ
âThat position is not one I am currently interested in.â
Seems like Mrs Weasley has her eyes set on loftier goals, the Minister should perhaps begin to worry.
Mrs Weasley aims to continue pushing through laws to âeradicate social injusticeâ. Her newest bill (introduced in her opening speech) is to give Goblins the right to carry and use a wand. This bill has so far been opposed by the W.A.G.W (wizards against Goblin wands) but so far their petition has failed to receive the 2000 signature minimum.Â
âThereâs a reason we havenât allowed Goblins to carry wands!â Cried Higgs, founder of the group.Â
âWho are we to say who can carry wands? The only requirement for carrying a wand is magic,â Weasley said in response. This is clearly an area she is passionate about.Â
Mrs Weasley and her husband (currently unemployed) have two children: Rose, three, and Hugo, 23 months. âItâs hard, but since Ron is at one it now makes it much easier- heâs a great help.âÂ
Ronald Weasley, former deputy head of aurors and Potterâs partner, was seriously injured in a raid last August. He was hospitalised in the critical care unit for four months.Â
âIt was a trying time for all of us, the entire family helped us through it.âÂ
It was reported at the time that Healers believed Mr Weasley would be left permanently disfigured and disabled from the deadly curse. He has not been seen since his hospitalisation, 16 months ago.Â
âHeâs fine, enjoying being a stay at home dad.âÂ
Mrs Weasley certainly has big plans for her new department in the future. We can only hope she continues her quest for âsocial justiceâ.
