A man wrote the inscription on this book in 1941 when he left for the front. He married the recipient of this book in 1949. To think that not so long ago, this Charles Quimby hunted down a book for a girl he loved, then went to fight for a country he believed in; and it is this book that connects the life he lived to mine. Surely, there is much more at play than just a book. But it’s nice to imagine all the life of Charles and his dear Adelaide lived together because as he wrote: “this book I’ve found has become like my soul, read it and surely you will see what lies beneath the surface. There is far more to life than war and hate. God bless you ever on.”
