So far the Phantom Blood dub is great.
Just some riso prints for a class' final project
Phantom Blood cover from 1988 referencing a piece of fashion art by Tony Viramontes, Valentino, Haute Couture 1984.
Genuine question, why do ppl ship Jonathan and Dio when they were raised as brothers and consider each other brothers????? Like I watched jjba with a queer lens since im lesbian and I didn’t catch anything romantic at all between the two. Speedwagon was definitely gay, Joseph is bi, etc… but I genuinely didn’t feel or see anything between Jonathan and Dio. When I think of their dynamic I think of like “evil step SIBLING” and “doomed family” not doomed lovers tbh
Formal adoption wasn't really legal back then during 19th century England and neither of them truly considered each other brothers. Literally one of the first things Jonathan says after the rugby match is how he can't see Dio as a "real brother" and Dio most definitely didn't consider Jonathan a brother either.
A lot of people ship Dio and Jonathan because of Dio's one-sided obsession with Jonathan as well as Dio's attitude towards Jonathan in the ship where he pretty much talks about how he's incomplete without him and how they're two halves of a whole. It's this idea of a twisted obsession with someone where you don't ever let the other person go and instead literally sew your bodies together for eternity.
When Jonathan dies, Dio is genuinely distraught. I wonder if when he said "you can live forever with erina" but really meant "you can live forever with me, i'd be alone otherwise, you who cried when you struck me down, you who cared for me despite my hatred for you, you who might be the only one who could ever understand me in any way" and I can see why jonathan x dio is so popular lmao.
There's also this commentary by the literal director of the Phantom Blood anime where it seems like he's hardcore shipping Dio and Jonathan lol. He calls them "brothers, rivals and even something like lovers".
There's also this 2007 interview by Araki in Eureka Magazine where he says Dio could've had "lust" (or "desires" depending on the translation) for Jonathan.
It's sometimes argued that the interviewer was a fujoshi and she was pressuring him to say that but reminder that in the same interview, Araki was completely dismissive of anything romantic between Bruno and Abbacchio but the fact that he wasn't with Dio and Jonathan says a lot.
Fem Dio + Fem Diego
Diego thinks she's safe, since those are stolen boobs, only to get bamboozled by these beauties (but female version):
I suppose the D in D Cup stands for Dio

read the diplomat's son again and god. this is. the comic ever because jim starlin really wrote a comic in which jason witnesses firsthand the failures of the system and how sometimes they just straight up dont work and fail the victims and like. it's the perfect setup for perhaps developing themes of class and systemic injustice and perhaps it might be even setting up jason to reckon with his role as robin and perhaps how he contributes to a system that fails people like him Consistently but no the takeaway jim starlin wants you to come away with is "isn't this kid so evil and stupid and reckless. dont you want him dead" and its like. dude idgaf about that can we please talk about the systemic failures. anybody in here wanna discuss the systemic failures. anyone.
i also have More Thoughts on how tds centers felipe's death as "more important" than gloria's but i cannot get into that right now it's nearly 2am
