Things To Consider When Reading
1. Characters: Who are the characters?
2. Plot: What are the conflicts? This can include Person VS Person, Person VS Technology, Person VS Self, Person vs Nature, Person vs Society, etc. This also includes Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Actions, and Resolution.
3. Theme: What is the overall message of the piece?
4. Tone: What tone is the writing taking?
5. Point of View: This includes 1st person, 2nd person, 3 person limited, and 3rd person omniscient.
6. Setting: What is the time and place?
7. Style: This includes Similes, Metaphors, Allusions, Alliterations, Personifications, etc.
Character Analysis Reference System: STEAL
This is mostly just for chapter by chapter basis.
SPEECH: What does the character say and what does that reveals about them?
THOUGHTS: What does the character think and what does that reveals about them?
EFFECTS: What effects does the character have on others and how do others view the character?
ACTIONS: What does this character do and what does that reveal about them?
LOOKS: What is the character’s physical appearance like?
