I wrote a fanfiction about Jason Todd being suicidal and his family stepping up and being a good family. It mostly focuses on Jason and his brothers but both Bruce and Cass are briefly there too. This is my first fic for this fandom so be gentle please.
I'll Be Here for You
Cole Cassidy was a man who spent most of his life moving around from place to place, not a lot of it from his own choices until he was sixteen. His life choices got a little dicey after that, he could admit, but it had been a couple years after a life-threatening situation that knocked him back onto the right path. That path had lead him here, to the dorms of university. He stared at the building, standing by his two suitcases that held everything he owned.
If he were honest with himself, he was terrified. He didn't know what he was doing, didn't know what he wanted to do, and had taken up a major that seemed mildly interesting (criminal detective). Now he had to face the dorm situation. It hadn't been his first choice, but he had quickly learned that on campus or near campus housing was near impossible to afford.
He sighed, and resigned himself to his fate. Better to get it over with and start the process. He just hoped his roommate would be decent.
@boomgoestheriptire
Cole rubbed the back of his neck and leaned forward onto the table. The faintest tint on his own cheeks was clear then, as he smiled back at him.
“I like it too. Bein’ ‘round all our friends is nice and all but…on our own…” the fingers of his free hand tapped on the table, “You’re the only one I can really talk to about anything without fear of being judged. Or scolded for whatever.”
Jamie’s own blush just deepens though his smile widens at hearing that Cole likes spending time with him took.
“I’ll be back. I’ve gotta go to the bathroom before we leave,” he says hurrying to the restroom. He goes and splashes some water on his face. He’s so nervous but happy at the same time. He really really likes Cole and doesn’t want to screw this up, but it seems like Cole likes him too. He’s so nervous. He wants this to go well
Cassidy waited until Jamie was out of eye sight before he pulled out his phone. Panicked, he sent a text to whoever popped up first in his contacts (that wasn’t Jamie).
sunset watch 2 romantic? not a date but sorta feels like one? HELP
His instincts told him maybe it was a touch too much. But the way Jamie looked at him- and the way Cole’s own heart felt… Better get some third party help. His own emotions were complicated to decipher, especially after all they’d been through the last year.
Luckily for Cole, the next contact is Angela who knows both him and Jamie very well and is 100% rooting for them to get together. She and Lucio are hanging out together when she gets the text. She quickly responds.
Not too romantic, it’s perfect. Go for it. Me and Lucio are cheering you on! 😍👍🏼
With it is a picture of her and Lucio giving him encouraging thumbs up.
Cole felt his cheeks warm more when he realized exactly who he had messaged. It didn’t matter of course. The words of encouragement were all he cared about, and he smiled softly at his phone for a moment before tucking it away. The waitress came back with the bill, Cole paid, and he waited patiently for Jamie’s return.
If you count a bouncing leg and tapping fingers patient. Nerves ate at him as he realized that this was easily read as a date. He knew Jamie had some sort of feelings for him, but Cole was nervous. The self-confidence he usually carried was often a mask. One that fell around the people he cared about.
Jamie returns to the table just as the waitress is bringing back the check for Cole to sign. “Are we all ready to go?” He asks trying not to seem too eager to go get boba tea and watch the sunset with Cole
A quick signature later and Cole was on his feet, offering his arm out to Jamie.
“All set!” He said, leading the way out, “Which way?”
Jamie takes Cole’s offered arm and leads him down the street.
Just two blocks from the resteraunt is a nice boba tea shop. When they enter the workers greet them knowing Jamie well from how often he comes in. “What flavor can I get you gentleman?” The cheery girl asks.

The ease at which the host handled the issue caused that little nagging feeling to disappear. Cole sighed in relief, and, without much thought behind it, took Jamie's hand and smiled at the host. "Don't mind one bit, thank you much for this."
“It’s no problem. As an apology for the trouble I’ll make sure your first drinks are free.” She tells them before gesturing to the bar. They only have to wait a few minutes before she’s leading them to a table. “Your waitress will be with you shortly.”
“Wow this place is really great.”
"Damn," Cole said, and led the way to the bar, "It really is. I did have a backup plan if we wind up not likin' this spot- I was afraid we'd have to go there earlier than expected for a minute." They sat and Cole turned toward Jamie when normally he would turn toward the bartender first. "That being said, if you don't like it we can leave whenever."
“Yeah me too, but everything’s worked out. I’m excited to try the food here. Lucio told me it’s really delicious. Especially their bread and the deviled eggs appetizer.”
He replies with a smile. When the bartender asks for their drinks he orders a rum.
Cassidy ordered a whiskey, and looked around at the atmosphere of the place. Part of him had been worried he would feel out of place- but surprisingly he did not. Jamie being there made things better too, of course. Cole felt that warmth creep into his chest again, and he let it stay this time. No use in fighting something that stubborn. "Order whatever you want, it's my treat."
“If you insist,” he responds with a smile clinking his glass lightly against Cole’s. Soon they’re lead to their table and Jamie orders them the deviled eggs appetizer and the waitress brings out bread for them. It’s fresh from the over and delicious.
The table was nice, the bread was nice, the lighting was nice. It really brought out the softer features on Jamie’s face. Sharpened others. Made him…well. Cole half hid behind his menu, hiding the way his cheeks warmed slightly. Attractive. Jamie really was attractive. Cole could find his friends attractive, that was normal. After taking a small breath, he cleared his throat and sipped at his drink.
“You like those eggs?”
Jamie nods, “yeah they’re delicious. The hot sauce is amazing on them. Try it I think you’ll really like it.” He suggests.
"Don't mind if I do," he said, reaching for one. Jamie, of course, was right. It was good. If a place couldn't make deviled eggs properly he wasn't going to trust it. This made him hopeful for their entrees. Cole hummed in appreciation as he looked up at Jamie. "So far so good- this place is pretty good so far."
Jamie is so happy, getting to be with someone he cares about and he knows cares about him in return. Just being able to fully relax and not have to worry about being watched by anyone. To know that he’s not only safe, but thanks to it being Cole he’s with he truly FEELS safe.
The dinner went well, even better than Cole had expected, really. During which they talked about games and movies they had just recently played or watched. they talked about how school was going for the both of them, and…
Cassidy decided that the warm fuzzies he was feeling couldn’t really be ignored much. It had started well before the Incident, but he had reason to ignore it then. Reason to ignore it right after all of that too. But now…? Cole leaned back in his chair, watching Jamie.
“Do you want to watch the sunset with me?”
Jamie enjoys chatting with Cole as they eat. Talking with his is so much easier than it ever was with Tyler. With Tyler he always had to make sure he didn’t say something to set Tyler off. But with Cole, it’s easy and fun. She finds himself laughing more with Cole than he ever did with Tyler. The fluttery feeling in his chest that he gets around Cole is back and bigger than ever and for the first time, Jamie doesn’t try shoving it down.
He smiles at Cole’s question and nods, “yeah I’d love to. Do you know a spot?”
A slow grin pulled at his lips, and he nodded. "I do. It's a surprise though, because I want to see your genuine first reaction to it." It'll be beautiful, he thought. "We can get dessert someplace on the way if you got a sweet tooth."
“There’s a boba place down the street. I don’t know if I ever told you but I freaking love boba,” he tells Cole blushing a bit at admitting just how much he loves it.
“I think you may have mentioned it once. I don’t believe I’ve had the chance to try some before either.”
Cole waved down the waitress and politely asked for the check. When they walked away again, Cole’s eyes were back on Jamie immediately. The rosy color on the man’s cheeks made him want to find ways to see it again.
“We can walk? Sunset spot ain’t too far from here and if boba’s down the street that’s perfect.”
Jamie beams at hearing that, “that’s awesome! Thanks for treating me to dinner by the way. I really really enjoyed it. I like spending time with you like this,” he admits, his cheeks flushing an even deeper pink than before. It goes all the way to his ears this time

When Ray had been informed by Winston that Overwatch had taken in a new member, he was thrilled at the prospect! A new face was always welcomed, as the group needed all the help they could get now more than ever.
Before they had gone to meet him though, WInston had asked Ray to show him around and keep an eye on him. While no explanation was given, the other explained that it was simply a precaution, and that he was sure the new member would be trustworthy.
Ray greeted the tall, blonde man with a welcoming smile and extended a hand. “You must be Mr. Fawkes! It’s nice to meet you!” Ray greeted the other. “Winston asked me to show you around and get you used to the place.”

Jamie turns bright red at the kiss and gets the biggest dopey smile on his face. “That sounds real fun. Maybe sometime you can teach me to swim in the pool here.” He suggests hoping to get even more time with ray.
Angela switches off the healing stream which causes Jamie to wince at the lose of the soothing warmth from it. “That’s it for the first session. I’ll do another session tomorrow morning, and again in the afternoon and evening. After another four or five sessions you should be fully healed.”
“Deal~” Ray responded with a small chuckle, amused at the shade of red Jamie had turned. Though Ray himself was blushing slightly as well.
At hearing the news, he turned to Angela and nodded. “Thank you, Dr. Ziegler. I know Jamie’s in good hands with you. Will it be okay if I come by to see him tomorrow too?” He asked, glancing down at Jamie with a warm smile.
“Of course. Now you should get some rest Jamie. Lots of sleep will help you heal faster.” She says with a smile before heading off. Jamie nods and yawns. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow then.” He says with a hopeful sound to his voice.
Ray regarded Angela with a nod. “Dr. Ziegler’s right. Rest up, Jamie.” He advised, before smiling down at the other man. “Yeah, I’ll stop by tomorrow for sure~ You have a good rest, and take care, okay, Jamie?”
Leaning down to give Jamie one last kiss on the cheek, Ray waved before turning to leave the med bay, making a mental note to visit him in the morning.
The next few days pass similarly with ray visiting Jamie, and Jamie getting treatments with Angela’s staff. After a week he’s cleared by Angela to leave medical. He decides to go surprise ray in his workshop.
He enters and sneaks up behind rat and wraps his arms around his back. “There’s my prince in shining wetsuit.” He says with a giggle.
Ray was in his workshop, reading up one of his marine biology books, when he was hugged from behind and heard that familiar, welcomed voice.
Chuckling, Ray put his book down and turned around, pressing up close to the taller man and leaning up to kiss his cheek. “And here’s my handsome, bomb-loving prince~” He teased back, reaching up to caress Jamie’s cheek. “All cleared?”
“Yup! Angela gave me the all clear! I still need to take it easy for at least two weeks but after that I should be able to go one missions again. Until then I’m stuck on base working in the workshop and providing tactical support.” He explains grinning down at ray.
He can’t help but nuzzle into Ray’s hand on his cheek. He’s had so little positive physical contact in his life that he soaks up any he can get like a sponge. He’s been known to cuddle with whoever will let him, usually roadhog, McCree or Reinhardt during movies, he’s always standing close to the people he trusts.
“That’s good. We can’t be sending you out into danger until you’re all rested up. The team can’t lose you…and neither can I~” Ray hummed, before smiling. “Besides, it just means you can spend more time around base with me when I’m not on dives or on the field.”
He let Jamie enjoy the affection, holding the taller man close and gently thumbing his cheek. Wordlessly letting the other know that he was in company of people who loved and would protect him.
Jamie smiles and gives Ray a peck on the nose. “We’ll have to take a day or two off and go to the beach so you can teach me how to swim. Unless learning in the pool is better. I leave that choice up to you.”
