Xaden Riorson’s actions in Fourth Wing and Iron Flame both make more sense and become infinitely funnier when you remember that the man is 22-23 years old.

This man is AT BEST a first year grad student trying to finish compulsory military service in an active war zone while running the family business (ruling a legit kingdom) and taking on extracurriculars (leading a rebellion) as side hustles. On top of that there’s a literal plague of evil descending, institutional racism is against him, and his Situationship (calling Violet that cuz a lot happens there over two books and I’m trying to cover all the relationship levels) never seems to settle out for more than a month at a time.

Like, of course the decision making is not always on point. The man doesn’t even have a fully developed pre-frontal cortex yet and he hasn’t slept the recommended amount in 6 years.

a/n: felt the itch to post so here's this lil comfort drabble I wrote not too long ago

You crawl onto Toji's lap while he sits on the sofa, flipping through tv channels in search of something to watch. Your arms wrap around him as you nuzzle your face into the crook of his neck and breathe him in. Toji's familiar scent grounds you.

"I'm so lucky to have you." Your voice is a soft whisper against his skin as you continue to nuzzle into him.

Toji places a strong but gentle hand at the small of your back and tucks your hair behind your ear with his other hand.

"I love you so much." Toji doesn't miss the sad shakiness to your voice before you move on to pressing soft kisses along his neck.

You continue to breathe Toji in, losing yourself in his scent. His warmth. The feeling of his skin against yours.

The hand at your back begins to rub soothingly up and down in long strokes. He knows that what you need right now is quiet and reassuring touch. He continues rubbing your back and begins placing soft kisses to your forehead as he feels his skin dampen with your tears.

Toji holds you close to him until your quiet sniffles cease and your breathing evens out. You let out a big sigh, signaling that you’ve calmed down and press a kiss to the corner of Toji’s lips.

He turns to you and presses his nose to yours, smiling when you giggle at the gesture. “There’s my girl.”
