META / RE : VISION IMPAIRMENT

A RETCON OF ‘ THE WOLVES OF WAR ‘

during the war taking place in season six.ii , scott has to learn to fight blindly to face the anuke ite . he does come to deucalion for help ; this is something i will not be removing from my portrayal . the divergence comes into place when it boils down to the aftermath of the battle . as far as this blog goes , when scott takes claws to his eyes to blind himself , his eyes do not heal . not then .

in the second season , when faced with matt controlling the kanima , scott was tried with a lesson in greek mythology likening jackson to the furies . confusing orestes with oedipus , scott asks ‘ was that the guy who stabbed out his eyes ? ’ it seems macabrely fitting that this should be his fate .

001 . THE SECOND COMING OF THE BLIND ALPHA .

before his death , deucalion passed his teachings unto scott , allowing him to relearn his senses . he would practice in the tools of 01. ECHOLOCATION / SOUND . 02. THERMOCEPTION / HEAT . 03. EQUILIBRIOCEPTION / BALANCE . 04. PROPRIOCEPTION / PRESSURE .

however , like his predecessor , scott also eventually will learn to use his alpha eyes when his corneas are restored . this is very atypical vision , and only works when his eyes glow . color has been entirely usurped ; all his shifted sight picks up is infrared . heat signatures . this grants him the ability to see what may be necessary in a fight , giving him an advantage , but is not practical in daily use as it takes a surplus of concentration to control .

while deucalion was a household name in beacon hills , a VISIONARY , scott's is a name widely world - renowned by the end of the series . those who previously knew of the title in relation to deucalion may now learn that someone else has taken the mantle . the true alpha . the man that knocked over the towering argent name . a new visionary , a credible threat . the blind alpha is no longer deucalion . the blind alpha is scott mccall .

002 . MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALING + RENEWAL .

while i did mention that scott’s eyes don’t heal so soon after the injury in the episode , they will eventually begin a slow and methodical process . it will take significant time . throughout the series we learn that supernatural healing can be delayed psychogenically . if the wound is connected to a strong emotional conflict , it may take a long while before it recovers .

we see this instance with scott in season three when he believed derek to be dead , and wasn’t healing because he felt at blame . this took a day or two to restore . we see it once more in season five after theo’s fatal blow to scott’s chest . that particular wound took even longer ; up to a few weeks for the skin to mend over the injury , because he felt guilty for allowing his pack to be separated .

the healing of scott’s eyes post - series , if following the ratio of time : guilt , will take months if not up to a full year . the casualties of the war weigh far too heavily on him , not allowing him think of his eyesight without being reminded of the gravity of that time .

as far as HEALING MENTALLY , he does so so through the following .

deferring his acceptance to uc davis as to not add another layer of stress .

replacing his classical novels with audio books ; still used every morning as a means of education + relaxation .

taking ownership of deucalion’s extendable cane .

a guide dog kindly gifted by doctor deaton named roxy , after his childhood pet seen in season five .
