Charming Mercenary || Lucina & Severa

"Hmm? Oh good morning Lucina." She smiled at her then blinked when she turned away from her. How rude! The redhead quickly went to grab her breakfast then sat next to the princess, looking at her. "What? Is there something on my face? You know that it’s rude turning away from someone like that."

Severa frowned as she looked closer at the other’s face. “Are you.. alright? You look a little red there, Luci…”

"N-No! Of course not! I-I did not mean to do such thing. My apologies." Lucina spluttered, taken by surprise by the other. Her heart had started to beat quickly again, at the sight of Severa. The lord could feel her face continue to heat up, as if she had done something extremely embarrassing.

"I-I-I am fine, S-Severa!" Her heart almost skipped a beat when she realised that red-haired female had come closer. Lucina faced away and quickly bit into her piece of bread.

Just the axe? Would something happen if they picked it up? Having her sword ready, she stared at the axe as she neared it. So far so good, nothing was happening, not even the smell of Risen was coming near her. Perhaps if they found another person, they could use that axe but…. there’s no way to tell if this weapon was tampered with or not.

"It’s fine. I understand why you were being so cautious like this. The enemy’s weapon was out in the open like this. Was it a trap or…" She didn’t even know if it was the enemy’s or not. It could be a civilian for all that matters. Then again that brought up another question, were they alive or dead?

"Let’s just keep going if we’re set. There’s no reason to linger around here." Severa walked towards Lucina, patting her shoulder and started to walk ahead. At least they could find the Risen by smell now, though.. she didn’t know if it was a good thing or bad thing.

"I have not the slightest clue. Perhaps we should take this with us, just in case it may turn against us at a later time." Lucina said, as she knelt down to pick up the axe. It was strange. Not only for her to hold an axe, but the fact that it seemed hardly used in battle. Nevertheless, she placed it into her inventory, keeping it away from any Risen coming by.

"Yes, you are right. Let us head back towards Mount Prism." The lord smiled slightly, nodding at the mercenary. She started walking a few steps slowly, then started walking at her regular pace. Her head was moving, looking around at her surroundings once more. However, she quickly focused her sight to the ground, to avoid anymore of these images getting to her feelings. She needed to stay strong emotionally as well as physically.

When she could tell that they were out of the town, she looked up ahead. The sun was slowly setting. All the leads she had on getting to Mount Prism was just the lump of land up ahead. Was it really going to be Mount Prism that they were heading to? Lucina didn't know. But she couldn't lose hope. Not here.

We Meet Again || Severa & Lucina

"But…" She bit her lip, trying to think of what to do. The redhead looked away. Was it possible to ask her something like that without the other getting angry at her? Hopefully she would understand right…?

Severa took a deep breath and looked at the princess. “I… if something… happens to me, I want you to promise that you’ll end my life.” She closed her eyes, waiting for Lucina’s reaction. Of course it wouldn’t be a good one. It wasn’t easy telling her, or anyone else for that matter, that she had Grima’s bloodline either.

Could she even help the others even though she has the fellblood flowing through her veins…? She didn’t even want to risk the other’s lives if something like that were to happen.

Lucina waited patiently for Severa's response. She knew it would be hard to keep everyone's promises, but she always could keep them to the best of her ability. No matter what the promise was.

"S-Severa? I believe... I-I do not..." The lord stood there, with her hand still gently placed on the mercenary's shoulder. Her intake of those from the other's words were slow. It took a little time before she could find her original words again. She took her hand off Severa's shoulder and placed it near her chest.

"I believe I do not understand what you are saying by this. What do you mean? I do not... I do not want to take your life with my own hands. You are dear to me, Severa." Lucina look away and onto the ground, worried at where this sudden talk was leading to. She didn't want to face Severa, not with having to hold a promise like that one.

"Do you think that we’ll be able to find a place to stay as well as a job?" She chuckled, knowing that they would be alright but at time she couldn’t help but worry that Lucina’s humbleness would sap their money supply at times more than she would spend it.

"How about we find a one-room place at an inn and we could sleep together? It’ll save us a bit of money at least right?" Severa blushed as she said that but the princess did deserve to sleep in a nice, warm bed after all…

The redhead blinked as Lucina didn’t want the eyepatch now and held onto her hand. “Just keep your hood up. It’ll hide your hair and face.” She smiled back at her and started looking at the other shops, wondering what to do. “Hmm… I wonder if the others would be coming for us…” 

A sigh escaped her lips as she thought about that and shook her head. They had other things to do than chasing after them after all. But it wouldn’t hurt to visit once in awhile right…?

"If we set our minds to it, I am sure we will be able to accomplish anything. Though, it will take time." Her head was lifted, as if looking deep into the roof of the shop. After her response, she placed her head back down and smiled at Severa.

"Oh, I hadn't thought of that. That is a good idea." The blue-haired female responded, enjoying the idea of saving money by sharing a room for the coming nights. After all, they've already spent so many nights together at camp, what was going to be different about it this time?

Lucina tugged on her hood, making sure it was covering her hair and her face. She eyed all the shops they were near. There were so many different shops out here, that it surprised her. All the fighting from the war had changed her views on how things were supposed to be. Seeing all these colours and happiness around just seemed so foreign.

"I would have hoped the others would spend their lives together with us. But they chose their own paths for their own happiness-- just as we chose this path for ourselves, Severa. Perhaps we will meet our comrades again, in the future..."

"Stay back! I don’t want to hurt you."

"S-Severa? What is the matter? Please… tell me." Lucina asked, worried at what was to follow. She started to walk a few steps towards the other, hoping to calm her down.

Severa shook her head as she cried harder. “But it’s true Lucina…! I…” She held onto her hand, looking away from the princess. “I can’t guarantee that I won’t hurt anyone… especially you…”

The redhead couldn’t control herself anymore and shook. “Please just get away from me!” She cried and shook, feeling his presence starting to take over.

Lucina slowly treaded through the water, hoping Severa wouldn't notice her approaching too much. But it was hard with the constant stream flowing through Lucina's legs.

"Severa, No! You know I would never abandon you. No matter what happens, I will always trust you." She said, as she finally made her way out of the river. The lord continued to slowly walk towards the mercenary. When the distance was right, she started to place her hand on the other's shoulder softly.

Severa sighed as she rubbed her head, walking into town with the princess to buy supplies, she didn’t expect the area to be attacked by bandits killing the people and causing fires.

The redhead huffed as she looked around. The crying was around this area but she couldn’t see anyone. Severa walked around, trying to find the source of the crying as quickly as possible. When she finally did, she grunted as she pushed debris aside and looked at the small child. “It’s alright, no one’s here anymore.”

"What is the matter? There are no bandits left... Why are we still--" Lucina was cut-off by her realisation of what was in front of her and why Severa had continued to walk around the area. There was a small child, crouching down and crying in fear. The lord smiled, as a way to cheer the small child up and in an understanding manner for the mercenary's actions.

"Yes, of course. Thanks sis! I’ve been so excited for it!" he grinned as he walked out the door, walking alongside her. 

The weather did agree with the outing for both royals and the prince was simply glad that they both had made time to do this. As they made their way to the zoo, Morgan looked over at his sister. “It’s been a while since we’ve been able to do anything just the two of us, huh sis? I’m so glad that we were able to again!”

Lucina could not help but to giggle at her brother's happy outburst. As long as he was happy, she was by default going to become happy as well.

"Yes, it has been a while. I am sure today will be just as fun as the others we have had. Now that we are here, we should make the most of today." The princess smiled, as happy as she was to spend this time with her brother. She paid for the entry tickets and lead the way through the entry gates. Now, their sibling outing was truly going to start.

71. Our muses are destined to fall for each other when they’re stranded in the jungle and have to find their way out (*coughs* Gonna assume they AREN’T siblings for this round cause…yeah. Love and stuffs XD)

Morgan groaned as he woke up…on a…beach of some sort? Looking around, he panicked. Trees. So many trees and water…none that looked familiar. He had absolutely no idea how he got there but from what it looked like…they were stranded. 

Looking in front of him…he spotted the princess lying close to him. Why only she was alone with him, he didn’t know…but he had to make sure she was okay nonetheless! 

"Lucina!" he called out, running over to shake her awake. "Are you alright?? I’m…not sure what happened but…I’m not sure where we’re at…please tell me you’re not hurt…we really need to find a way to get out of here…"

Morgan let out a breathe when she finally awoke. At least she was alive and uninjured. Not everything seemed to be against them at least. 

"Indeed…I’ll think of a plan, Princess. Don’t worry." he said with a nod. He was glad that he had his tome with him…and that she hadn’t lost her Falchion. Now they simply had to find a way to escape. 

"I…don’t know how we got here…but until we find a way out, we might want to explore. We can leave markers to find our way back here but we really do need to find food and water, and potentially shelter for the night first…you know, basic survival techniques," he said, looking over at the princess. "Um…if that’s alright with you…that is," he said, giving a small smile. "We’ll figure this out. I promise!"

All she was surrounded by were never-ending amounts of foliage. Even if there were any Risen or other predators lurking nearby, it would be hard to locate them in an instant. All she could do was to continue to stay alert for a little while to confirm the two's safety.

"You have my thanks, Morgan. After all, you are the tactician here." She smiled, grateful that she had a companion. Although as much as Lucina wanted to leave this forest, Morgan was right. They should explore around the area first, and get supplies for the night. Who knows how long it might take to escape this place?

"I am fine with any ideas you propose to find a way out of this unknown place. I will offer my aid if whenever and wherever I can." The princess smiled, as she nodded to agree with what the tactician had said.

"Y-yeah…you’re probably right. I’m sorry…I suppose…I just feel bad. I appreciate you understanding but still…" he mumbled, before shaking his head. "But I can’t think that way…right? Gotta stay positive," he added, giving her a small smile. He didn’t want to bring the mood down, after all, and if he was stuck like this…well he might as well do his best to remember all he could!

"Hmm…well…I already tried banging my head against the wall…but Mother says I can’t do that…" he sighed, rubbing his head slightly. "I suppose…we should just stick together for now? I thought my plan was genius…but it didn’t help…just gave me a headache…"

"Oh, Morgan... Hitting your head against the wall would definitely not help in regaining your memories at all. All you could ever get out of it is... well, a headache like you have now." She sighed, while closing her eyes for a little moment to relax. All she was trying to think of now were ways in which could help her brother regain his memories... But it was not going to be an easy task.

"Stick together... Ah, in that case, shall we go prepare lunch for the Shepherds? I do believe it is my turn today." Lucina smiled, as she offered an idea to help the two bond more.

“Wait!”

It’s definitely a tome that Lucina has in her hand, but not just any tome—emblazoned across the front was the red symbol that had been on Tharja’s mind for days.

"That’s the Arcfire tome I’ve been looking for…" She takes one step, then another, as if hypnotized by the slightly worn tome. Finally she returns her gaze to Lucina, boring her wide-eyed stare into the girl’s eyes with as much urgency as she could convey.

"You’ve never used magic on the battlefield— what are you doing with this tome?"

Startled by the outburst by Tharja, Lucina looked at the other with a blank face. It felt sudden, as she hadn't communicated with Tharja in particular. Nevertheless, she was also a Shepherd just like anyone else within the camp.

"I volunteered to help with the unloading of the new items Robin had gone to purchase today. These tomes should be the last of it. Do you have a specific need for it?" The lord asked, weary of the other's intentions. After all, the dark mage seemed quite different from the other Shepherds.

"Do you know where there's a knife nearby? I'd use Falchion but you'll get mad again."

"As long as you understand that Falchion is a sacred sword not meant for cutting apples, I am willing to get you a knife from the cooking tent for you, Morgan. Just wait here."

Fading to Dust

Lucina felt hopeless. She stood there as if she could not understand anything at all. In this moment, nothing could be felt or heard. All was slow, and all she could see was the sight of her beloved friend falling to the ground without hesitation.

"S-Severa!" The lord hastily called out, while dropping Falchion onto the ground. She ran towards the body, as tears welled up in her eyes.

"Oh, Severa… This… cannot be happening… I refuse… to believe… it… Please! Severa! Open your eyes!… Please…" Lucina’s knees grew weak at the sight of the lifeless body that lays at her feet. She fell onto her knees, as her cheeks were continuously running with her tears. Even with her own strength, this was all she could do.

Severa glanced at Lucina, wondering what she should really do. They apparently lost their parents to the war here so that made one keep to themselves a lot… Sighing, she held onto her sword, the smell of the dead was everywhere in this town and she didn’t like it.

"Alright, I have a few more pieces leftover in case you want some." She smiled slightly as she started to eat. All the food was so scarce… it was nearly impossible to find good, healthy meat but they needed to make sure that there really was enough to go around.

Once they were done with their snack, The redhead walked to find any more medicine that they would be able to use or any usable weapons for the long road. She looked at Lucina when she warned that there were Risen nearby and placed a hand on her sword, ready to attack and slowly backed up behind Lucina, hoping to find the enemies before they found them.

It was odd. The silver axe was lying on the ground, completely in sight to anyone who was close to it. Was it a bait for the living to get ambushed by Risen? Was it carelessly left behind by one? Either way, the lord was prepared for any incoming ambushes.

She was alert. Her eyes were scanning every place which was deemed easy to hide in. Her head also moved side-to-side to help her scan more of the area. But one vital thing was lacking from this scene. The Risen's distinct scent. Although it smelt of nothing but decay and ashes, nothing could compare to the smell Lucina loathed.

"My apologies. It seems there are no Risen around here... Perhaps I was too cautious of this axe lying around here." The blue-haired sighed, as she braced herself a little from her stance and looked down at the axe once more.

No… this wasn’t really the right choice now was it? She could practically feel the hesitation coming from the princess. And this wasn’t even right to ask her such a thing anyways. Sighing to herself, Severa looked down and away from the princess as she explained what she’d do. 

"I…see…" Severa held onto her own hand, biting her lips. This was now or never. "Luci… I want you to promise me something. I can’t ask the other’s because they can’t do it and I for sure don’t even want to ask your father for this either." 

She stopped again when Lucina started to talk. Strong-willed huh…? Everyone is except her, a failure. “I… You’re right. Forget that I said anything or even that promise I was going to ask you.” A coward. She stopped herself because she didn’t want to hurt Lucina’s feelings.. She’s lied to her all theses years, why change that now…?

"Of course. I will promise to do anything you ask of me." She said, as she smiled. She was curious as to what Severa would ask Lucina to do. After all, if Severa were to only ask her to promise something, it had to be something of significance.

The lord was somewhat shocked, as the mercenary had taken back what she had said. Lucina didn't know what was going on, nor what is going on behind Severa's hesitation. Perhaps it was best to leave it alone, but she could not let the matter rest. Lucina walked over to where Severa was sitting and leaned closer towards the other, while placing her hand gently on the other's shoulder.

"What is the matter, Severa? I will always be here for you, no matter what you may be going through. One thing I can certainly promise you right now is that I am here to help and protect everyone-- including you. That's what friends are for, right?" She said, as she gave a reassuring smile towards Severa.

Severa smiled when Lucina held onto her hand and walked with her, holding onto it. Reassuring her that they’re going to be alright from now on. It was the least that she could do after everything that they’ve been through after all.

"I know I know." She chuckled as she held onto her and continued to walk, wondering where they should be going after this. "Hmmm.. what to do.. we need a place to stay for a little while until we have money.. unless you want to camp out?"

Now that was something that she wanted to avoid. They were finally out and free so they deserve to sleep in an inn while they were trying to create a new life together…

"Wait, what? I am not letting you wear an eyepatch… it’s…" The redhead sighed and nodded. "Fine… let’s just find a good one that you could wear alright?" While they were at it, they could find some matching rings….

"It seems camping for the night would be our only option as our current money would not suffice for long... But if you would like to sleep at an inn, then so be it, Severa. We are free. We have choice now." Lucina smiled, as she smiled warmly at Severa.

After all, the blue-haired female had never felt what it was like to sleep in a nice bed since she was little. All she had been sleeping on was the ground from all the camps set up by the Shepherds. It was time to be comfortable and move onto a new beginning.

"But, this eyepatch..." Lucina picked it up, eyeing the unique pattern. She turned to look over at the mercenary to see her sighing. The lord looked back at the eyepatch and placed it down.

"No... If you won't allow it, then let it be so." She smiled a little, holding Severa's hand once more. Perhaps changing her own decisions and listening to Severa's could change herself... The outcomes were endless now.

"Stay back! I don’t want to hurt you."

"S-Severa? What is the matter? Please… tell me." Lucina asked, worried at what was to follow. She started to walk a few steps towards the other, hoping to calm her down.

"L-Luci…" She backed away from her, looking away. She was ashamed of herself. For both running away from her best friend and from how pathetic she looked. "Don’t you see Lucina…"

Severa looked at the princess finally, nearly crying. “I… we’ve been enemies since we were born.” There she finally said it as she held onto her hand tightly, crying.

The lord continued to hold her hand out, eventually standing in the river as the other had backed away. Her eyes blinked a few times at the latter, realising what she had really meant from her gesture.

"Don’t say that, Severa… We have been comrades ever since we were little children. I… trust you with my life; that you would never hurt one of us."

Severa looked back, worried about how Lucina was going to take this. It was supposed to be a more peaceful time here than it was in the future. She paused when she heard someone crying and ran towards that sound, trying to find at least one survivor seeing as everyone else was dead.

"Severa? Are you alright?" Lucina huffed, as she finished off the last bandit. There seemed to be no answer from the other. She turned around to see that Severa had ran towards the other direction. Without any doubt, the lord ran after the mercenary.
