In an effort to reduce financial hardship on students and improve patron experience, we are excited to announce new borrowing policies that include eliminated and reduced fines on certain collections and equipment.
General Collection: We are eliminating overdue fines on general collection materials. General materials include items in the main stakes, media browsing, closed stacks and storage, and the recreational reading collection. Fines will remain on ILL, reserves, equipment, and recalls.
Equipment: Overdue fines on circulating equipment have also been reduced. Information for laptops and equipment loans is available in the borrowing section of the Library website.
Amnesty: We have moved to a new amnesty model that gives borrowers one waiver per semester.
Food for Fines: In addition to the changes outlined above, the Library has partnered with the Brandeis Food Pantry to establish a new Food for Fines program. Patrons can now pay their overdue fines with a donation of non-perishable food or hygiene items that will go to the Brandeis Food Pantry. Each item donated is worth $5 toward Library fines.
