Thanks kcd1 for showing me how Hans’ hunting trip with Henry was the first time it felt like he let loose and acted like his age again after everything he’s been through up to that point. He lost his home, friends, and family — and then he meets this smug noble who’s, frankly, a jerk to him… but all Henry sees is another guy around his age with an ego big enough it could block out the sun.

But one outing together and suddenly this obsession with Radzig’s sword takes a backseat as he focuses on beating Hans in a competition. It’s dueling Hans, and getting into archery competitions and remembering to laugh and joke around even though he’s been through some truly terrifying shit. Hans turns into this touch point— this reminder for Henry to breathe. To be in the moment… to not rush to his own death or glory and just live. And I really appreciate it a lot.
