merlinâs beard, what is ( BRODY FLINT-YANG ) doing out at this hour? for a ( HALF-BLOOD ) who is ( 20 ) years old, ( HE ) really ought to know better. you know, I hear that theyâre aligned with ( THE DOUBLE AGENTS [ERINYES] ), but that could be just a rumor. I do know that theyâre ( GENDERQUEER ) and a ( TENTH YEAR ) ( SLYTHERIN ) student who is studying to become a ( MAGIZOOLOGIST ) though. theyâre very ( STEADFAST ) and ( COMPASSIONATE ) but also quite ( BRITTLE ) and ( REACTIONARY ), which could be why they remind of ( INTENTIONAL EYE CONTACT. SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS. FOMO. PULLING AT HAIR. KNUCKLES BRUISED BLACK AND BLUE. CLOUDY DAYS. AN UNSTOPPABLE SWEET TOOTH. SCRIBBLED CONVERSATIONS. ANGER LIKE AN EXPLOSION. ). some people say theyâre the spitting image of ( CHELLA MAN ), but iâve never heard of them. word on the street is that theyâre ( THE FACADE ) and their prophecy is ( PROPHECY #27 ), but only time will tell if thatâs true or not.
brodie is the second child of marcus flint-yang and yilin flint-yang and they are the epitome of a quidditch family. his mum would be the primary breadwinner of the family, marcus ending his career to be with her as she became the captain and eventual coach of the fitchburg finches in massachusetts- mainly to get out of wizarding london while the getting was good. while marcus did not take part in his families blood ideals and was disowned for marrying a muggle born witch, there is a guilty part of him that long wants to atone for abandoning ship per say instead of standing up for what was right. this reflects greatly in how he raised his children.Â
his family discovered his Deafness when he was five, after being described through and through by his teachers as a problem child who would probably need to repeat the year. by nine he was declared profoundly Deaf- his family already doing decent with ASL (none more then his sister, anya.) though he was scheduled for a cochlear implant surgery in the upcoming year. the year before though he was transferred to a school for the Deaf to accommodate his loss of hearing- which he did not enjoy at all.Â
there were great lengths taken at first by yilin flint-yang to ensure brody would not be attending hogwarts- due to the overprotectiveness and lack of accommodation hogwarts may or may not have had for brody at the time- as in his first year, he would not have the cochlear implant, and would be unable to hear. they tackled this with the use of enchanted quills, but this still would have many frustrating drawbacks that paired with brodyâs volatile nature and confusion with his identity, would land him bad grades, detention and frequent visits to the headmasters office. luckily though, headmaster longbottom was a kind and patient man- who also made great attempts to use sign language with brody- together they studied BSL (british sign language) in times that his professors sent him to the office for misbehaviours.Â
even after his implant surgery, there are many times that brody âescapesâ to the world of silence. it is often a comfort for him to be surrounded by complete stillness and quiet his mind- though of course can be just as detrimental to ice out the world and be alone with thoughts bouncing around his head.Â
brody is genderqueer and uses he/him pronouns, and was able to discover this at around age thirteen with the help of a seeker on the fitchburg finches, nina taqag. she is a twospirit inuk and was a huge part of brodyâs life, both in family and identity. while of course google exists it was hard for brody to piece his thoughts together and with a living example right in front of him, one that his also family loved and respected made the coming out experience much easier for him
his sister would die in a quidditch related accident in 2025, in his ninth year of school. she had âdropped outâ/finished school in her 7th year to pursue pro-quidditch and would land herself a second line position with the holyhead harpies- that many aquited to her being a legacy player/her motherâs influence in the professional quidditch world. brody would find out in the paper the morning after the game that she was hospitalized during the match, she would succumb to her injuries before he could make it to wales.Â
the flint-yangs would not process this death well at all, each having their own special unhealthy way at dealing with it. a large part of why brody found himself caught up with the wraiths so deeply, is because many of his good friends who were there for him during this time were/are wraiths. this often led him to turning the blind eye to many wraith actions, to the point where he wasnât aware that the wraiths wasnât solely a student run group.Â
the death of headmaster longbottom the next year would reopen the floodgates of hurt from his sisterâs death- and spur him to action and would lead to his quiet defection from the wraiths to the erinyes- acting as a spy for them feeding information back. trying to atone for his previous feigning of ignorance.Â
- quick authors notes for this one!!: while brody is fluent in BSL & ASL, and is more comfortable some days signing then talking. his cochlear implant allows him to hear and he was not born Deaf, and doesnât have trouble speaking but because a cochlear implant surgery destroys any working cells- without it he cannot hear. but to break the âDeaf mythsâ lip reading is like 0% a thing, the best way to communicate with someone who is Deaf if u cannot sign, is to correspond through writing which is how brody mainly survived through first year !Â
-Â when referring to brody as Deaf it is important to capitalize the D out of respect, pls do not refer to him as: deaf, hard of hearing, hearing impaired. these are used by public/political groups as inclusive terms but they focus on what is lacking/lost, most ppl in the Deaf Community prefer Deaf, because it focuses on what they have, culture and language, rather then what they dont ! and just with the conversations ive had with my professor this is what i would be more comfortable with !
-Â also i am currently completing a minor is american sign language (which is what we use in canada) and so i feel more confident with my ability to understand Deaf culture- however i am a cis-woman, and exploring brodys identity and gender is something i am putting a lot of research and effort into, however, i still have a lot to learn and 100% am open and would rly appreciate if that u notice something in his intro or through interaction that strikes u as odd pls pls pls talk to me i would hate to misrepresent his identity - thanks so much u guys !!!Â
the newspaper came back and liv looked at the person sitting beside her. seeing brody always made her reminisce about the past; before it was because of anya and how good friends they were. now, she realized it was because brody remembered her of her parents too. their parents became close through the years and seeing the youngest of the flint-yangâs face made it all come back.Â
while conflicted with nostalgic memories, olivia was glad to see him. seeing a friendly face was very welcome these days, even if from afar. the krum-wood nodded. â  yes. itâs been a long time since we talked last.  â she replied, gesturing the words in sign language that she remembered learning from anya a long time ago. thinking or talking about oliver and viktor could always make her feel miserable. doing the right thing and working for the order was something olivia took pride in doing, still losing complete touch with her parents was a high price to pay. â anyway, enough about me. how are things with you? howâs hogwarts?  â she asked, knowing exactly what was happening to her old school, but wanting to make conversation with her friend.
Brody hesitated, things with him or Hogwarts had been less than ideal. Frantic letters from his parents about the situation ignored- when he hadnât initially come home for Christmas- despite Hogwarts not housing students for the holidays spurred panic from his Father and anger from his Mother that forced him home. The Flint-Yang household was tense- with the implications of Brodyâs affiliations with the Wraiths left unsaid. He wondered if Olivia knew- wondered if sheâd be as disappointed as Anya would have been.Â
âNot sure, things are, will be different. Very different.â He signed. He could feel her discomfort at the mention of her father- understanding maybe a silent mutual agreement to not talk about their families. He hesitated, clearing his throat- itâd been a few days, maybe a week since heâd had to really speak to anyone- âIâm, worried.â He eventually said, his voice quiet.Â
who: @brdyflntyngâÂ
when: sometime during sixth year (Â flashback )
where: charms class.
Her eyes barely left Brody. Dove had always been good in making her face full of thunder, but this facial expression was a lot, even for her. Itâd only been days, since sheâd broken things off with Brody, and her anger was still fresh, relentless. Part of it was directed to herself, of course, but that was something she had decided to project on her ex-boyfriend, too. And so, ever since their split, Dove had looked at him with fury on her face, arms crossed, a whole plethora of petty, snide comments at the ready.Â
She hardly heard anything that Flitwick was saying, her entire being focused on Brody. Brody who she had loved ( maybe still did ), Brody who refused to part from his shitty friends, Brody who had just lost his sister. Once class was over â she only noticed because her partner elbowed her, softly â she got her stuff and marched over to Brody. Next time, donât sit across from me in class, she signed. Your face infuriates me.
The entire class he tried to keep his eyes off her. If he didnât look at her, she couldnât say anything to him, but of course, that proved difficult- he never could keep his eyes off of her before. That was just Dove, heâd never not be drawn to her in some way. Charms made things that much more difficult, too dull to pay attention too especially with his mind swimming. He hadnât been able to shake that feeling, that weight against his head thatâd been there since heâd gotten back-Â back from home, back from burying his sister - made it difficult to think, to do anything.Â
Turning his implant off, returning to that familiar blanket of silence helped.Â
But thoughts of their fight- their breakup, like Dove, persisted to the front of his mind. Theyâd fought before, that was one of the things they were best at- but heâd come back, theyâd fought: about his friends ? maybe, the details were fuzzy to him- underwater. Just furious signing back and forth, his implant off. But he remembers yelling- not any words but just sound, his meaning B I T C H hanging in the back of his throat
Not my problem. He signed back, glancing around the nearly empty classroom for any of his friends to provide an easy escape.Â
christmas and new years were done, much to oliviaâs relief. the holidays were always quiet and lonely for her and the girl noticed that she was always wishing they would pass quickly. so, after all the fuzzy parties, dinners and whatnots, there she was, sitting by the leaky cauldronâs bar, a firewhiskey in her hand. the atmosphere was cozy and warm as opposed to the freezing cold outside, but what liv was really looking for, even if she didnât want to admit it to herself, was an excuse to talk. the krum-wood hadnât spoken to anyone in days and was almost going crazy.
trying to keep her mind out of her own misery, she took the daily prophet and leafed through it, unconsciously stopping at the sports session. oliverâs face was stamped there with several others. the caption said that captain krum-wood had made a charity action with the puddlemereâs team at st. mungoâs the day before. she studied her fatherâs face with a heavy heart while he smiled repeatedly to the photographer. she missed home a lot. olivia looked away before starting to get any kind of reaction in public. she noticed that someone sat beside her and shot her a look. â  here, you can have it. â she said, passing the newspaper to them. â  iâm finished anyway.  â she shrugged, sipping her drink.
The New Year had always been a happy time in the Flint-Yang household. Brody, in particular, loved it. Fond memories he had- his parents inviting a swarm of old friends and teammates to their house for a party. Chasing Anya across the garden with sparklers in their hands as children, admiring the streaks of light that sprinkled the yard before theyâd fade away. And being their parentâs children, Anya would mischievously shove the semi-harmless sparkler into his face, the panic being enough to cause tears and then an embarrassing scolding. Itâd only been a few years since theyâd last done a holiday party- but it felt like a lifetime ago.Â
Seeing Liv was like being thrown right back into that feeling. More often then not the Krum-Wood family would make an appearance at his family get-togethers. He couldnât help but wonder if he reminded her of Anya as much as she reminded him. It was a feeling he was inclined to run from- to ignore. But call it a resolution; he was done running.Â
Knocking gently on the table to get her attention, signing Your Dad? glancing at the paper sheâd passed his way.Â
