Why do u like Andrew Shaw? I mean I'm gay and I really hate him bc of the slur thing but I know nothing else abt him so I'm genuinely curious
Well I suppose I should start at the beginning. I remember his first NHL game the season after he was drafted, 5 years ago. He got into a fight, which he needed stitches for, and he scored a beautiful goal in th next period. And before all of that, I had never heard of him. I remember thinking, āWho in the heck is this kid and why have I never heard of him?ā Even in that very first game, I had never been that excited watching one single player play before. He lit up the ice to me from the beginning. Every shift, he affects the game, for better or worse. He changes the momentum and energy of the game. And he plays with so much heart and emotion. I fell in love with all of that and I continue to be mesmerized every single time I watch him. Thatās why I love Andrew Shaw the hockey player. He was the first player I truly fell in love with. Now I love him just as much for who he is as a person. He started out as a guy who persevered through being undrafted twice and then taken in the 5th round the third time when he was nearly 20. He never gave up, he kept fighting and proved that everyone who said he was going nowhere with hockey was wrong. And he continues the fight of proving his worth and heās been so resilient. He has such a big heart and so much passion for the game that he could never give in when the going got tough. Heās too stubborn to let anything get in the way of his dreams. He has earned my respect and admiration with all of that. Heās also just a funny, silly, and sarcastic guy on and off the ice. I love that heās a chirper to both teammates and opponents, and he can always make me smile. He always is talking, laughing, and he keeps his head up and stays positive. He always has that adorable smile on his face, and even though he acts tough, Iām pretty sure heās a teddy bear on the inside. Thatās why I love him as a person.
Now, he isnāt perfect. Heās fucked up more than his fair share of times. You pointed out one of his major mistakes. But I will not condemn someone for one stupid thing they said in a moment of emotion and anger. What he did was wrong no matter how you look at it. But in a league where that kind of shit flies out fairly frequently without consideration of why is actually meant, the words they use lose their meanings. And good people can do bad things and make mistakes. It isnāt right but itās just how it is. One screw up doesnāt define who someone is as a person, and forgiveness and a second chance, within reason of course, is always deserved. Iām not try to change your opinion, Iām just giving you mine.
