Hey, what's up!

A bit of a delayed intro, but I'm Briarghast, and this is my blog for art and game dev.

I've been doing game jams with PIGSquad and CMDC Studios for a while and am trying to get into more full game projects.

My art style changes a lot and mostly depends on what I'm working on and whatever random whims I have today. Usually I oscillate between “stylized” fantasy and dark fantasy/horror.

Please feel free to say hi, ask questions, and send me art requests/suggestions! No guarantee I'll get all requests done since life gets crazy, but I'd be happy to see what we can do :)

Day 2 of drawing a bad drawing every day until I get better magically or something else happens.

I never understood "art therapy" and "channeling your negative emotions into art," seemed like a weird concept to me. Having not drawn much lately though, I feel like some of that stuff has just been bottled up. Maybe drawing weird stuff is my art therapy all along... Or that's what I'd tell my therapist, if my insurance didn't decide that I had to stop therapy out of the blue.

I'm tired of always trying to optimize an improve... The pressure to improve and validate my self-identity as an artist has paralyzed me and I've stopped creating anything. Whenever I feel motivated to draw or do some other creative activity, I'm immediately smothered by a feeling of overwhelm, that I need to do focus on practicing and improving my weaknesses before I can draw what I want to draw.

Well from now on I'm making one bad drawing a day until I get better... or not. Maybe I won't get any better. Maybe I'll miss some days. That's okay, because anything is better than this paralysis. Day 1: Anatomy is hard, I'm not bothering with it.

My drawing tablet kicked the bucket, so I dusted off the old iPad, booted up Procreate, and made a really self-indulgent creature to just let myself get lost in the rendering.

It was nice just drawing something for fun, it reminded me of why I always liked to draw, before I started taking it too serious.

An unlabeled CD was wedged in the back of a desk I bought from the thrift store. It looks like a game of some sort, but when I boot it up, I can't get past the title screen…

Exercises for all the homies who want to have a long career drawing.

The true problem with being an artist and drawing all day (as I wanted my whole life) is that human backs are not designed to hold that position, so it is very common for artists and designers to have really stiff shoulder blades, creating a chain of muscle strain towards the arm AND the back… and a lot of pain.

These are some physical exercises for artists and honestly anyone who works at a desk.

Just had to do some major touch ups to the Lord of night. I'll probably keep poking at it and keep polishing, but I think all the major changes are settled.

Had to draw the abdomen over like a hundred times... Jesus.
