Intro poast.

As per the blog title, I've finally gotten around to making a Richard O'Brien sideblog after lurking on RHPS/adjacent tumblr for a bit. Way overdue, but better late than never. I'm not a fan of Rocky Horror, but I like Richard O'Brien, because he is cute to me. I'm currently trying to collect every piece of cinema and television he's ever appeared in, and also any available information on his stage work, which might be impossible, but I'm not discouraged. I can't say I have a lot of new information to share, but I will be posting about Richard things I like, or Richard things that I don't see much discussion of elsewhere. (How often? I dunno...)

Currently looking for: ITV Playhouse, S9E10 It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (1977, TV episode) Rushton's Illustrated (1980, TV series - appears to be definitively partially lost) Style Trial, E8 (1990, panel show episode) Juke Box Jury, S4E1 (1990, panel show episode) Memory (1993, TV movie) Richard O'Brien's Dead Strange (2008, documentary series, it seems) Tales of the Fourth Dimension (2009, some kinda anthology series) …and other things, but those are just the ones I want to see the most lately.

The Detectives, season 3, episode 4: On Thin Ice (1995)

One of Richard's lesser-known TV roles, I haven't seen many mentions of it. The episode is quite easy to find as of now, though. The show is a sitcom about two extremely inept police detectives. It seems to be respectably mid. Reasonably funny, a bit cartoony, nothing too groundbreaking as far as sitcoms go - judging by this particular episode anyway, though it's not one of the higher-rated ones. Richard plays Dr. Phibes, a mortician (forensic medical examiner? probably not a coroner...) who treats the main guys' injuries while mocking them and generally being smug. It’s a bit weird that he’s only in a single episode - the way the character is treated feels more fitting for a regular member of the secondary cast, but he really does only appear here and nowhere else, I’ve even checked the credits in a bunch of episodes, it really was a one-off. What a shame. But maybe it's not uncommon for the show to introduce one-off characters that the main guys are supposed to be familiar with. Could be some kind of running gag, even. Anyway, he's really cute. Apart from being a good addition in terms of cast dynamics, he's really cute. Because of his smugness, and just in general, he's really cute. He wears, like. A troll doll as a pin. On his work clothes. It's unreal. Cute. He's something of an edgelord, in a gentle way, as you'd imagine, which was a bit funny, but mostly just nostalgic.
