NMRs and BMRs
Apparently, naked mole rats and blind mole rats are important enough to get their own acronyms in this paper! They are tumor-resistant, doesn’t that rule? They are notable because for rodents, they have a somewhat long lifespan — NMRs can live over thirty years, and in captivity, BMRs can live over twenty! In comparison, wild rabbits, though significantly larger, don’t often live over ten years, and field mice only live up to three years in captivity, and usually one in the wild. The mechanisms used to prevent tumors in NMRs and BMRs may someday be used in human cells to prevent cancer!
