This was proving to be more work than Mat thought it was going to be. Suits him well for getting the largest painting there was and thinking he could just get it up and in place without breaking a sweat. Clearly that wasn’t the case at all if this guy was talking about squatting and doing things one handed. “Um…yeah, sure. I can do that.” He squat down just as asked and watched as the other somehow managed to pick up the screws. “Can I get back up now?” It was clear to anyone with eyes that Mat was very much out of his depth right now.

David did the squat quite easily, trying his best to take most of the weight when he noticed the other struggling. “Yeah man,” he spoke quickly as he gathered the materials, “stand up now.” He balanced the photo with one hand as he quickly used his other to hang it up, it was pretty clear David had done this type of thing before as he made quick work of it. “There,” he punctuated with a final blow of the hammer and then moved to take the photo off of the younger male and placed it on the nail. “That should be good.” He stepped back slightly, looking at the man as he judged his reaction, hoping that was right.

Maia sighed in slight annoyance when David rejected her choice - disappointed, but not surprised. Most people didn’t seem to want to do what was good for them and follow her advice, but hey, if they wanted to live mediocre lives, that was on them, not her. “And what? Your mother isn’t aware that you have nipples?” Still, she put the shirt back on the rack, and continued to look for a more conservative option. “What about this floral patterned one? Or are roses too risqué for your mommy?”  

“Well I’m sure she’s aware, but I’d rather not have them on display.” He smiled with a slight shrug, him and his mom were close sure, but not that close. He stared at the woman for a second before he tilted his head and dropped his gaze to the shirt. He wasn’t normally a print guy, or a floral guy. David tended to stick to basic colours, mainly because he had no idea what looked good. But if she thought it’d be okay then there was no harm in trying it on. “I can try it” he reached out and grabbed the shirt, at least the material was comfy. He glanced around trying to see a changing room, debating just taking his shirt off when he saw it was busy.

he  smiled  in  his  direction , and  that’s  when  it  struck  aksel  that  this  guy  probably  wasn’t  from  around  here . after  all , what  new  yorker  in  their  right  mind  would  help  a  stranger  find  their  dog  in  a  city  this  big , unless  there  was  something  in  it  for  them ? he  had  to  be  from  somewhere  else , but  he  would  figure  that  out  later . right  now , he  just  needed  his  dog . it’s  not  too  long  of  a  walk , mostly  because  the  blocks  are  pretty  small , but  the  mention  of  the  flyers  makes  him  shake  his  head . “ actually , i  said  like  five  hundred . the  truth  is  that  i  printed  exactly  five  hundred  thirty  three  and  a  half  flyers . that  half  was  just  because  i  ran  out  of  both  color  and  regular  ink  in  the  middle  of  printing . ” god , he  didn’t  realize  how  that  made  him  sound  until  he  said  it  out  loud . he  chuckles  nervously , running  a  hand  past  his  dyed  hair . “ i  swear , i’m  normal , ” he  shrugs , “ sometimes …. whatever , he’s  important . ” the  situation  in  which  they  met  didn’t  help  his  point  either , but  whatever , they’re  almost  at  his  place  anyways . 

He felt his brows quirk up at the mention of a half flyer and couldn’t help but smile at the explanation, “Aaah I see. How silly of me, my apologies.” David shrugged before tilting his head slightly, “you just seem like someone who loves their dog. Nothing wrong with that.” Did he think it was excessive? Yes. Did he hope the other man was joking or exaggerating? Also yes. But he was in no position to judge or make comments. He looked around as they walked, keeping an eye out for any four legged furry boys. “Has he gotten out before?”

     she smiled and carefully handed over the infant, happy to have david hold him for a bit. it was good for him to be near someone different for a bit, he could learn how to socialize better. “we’ll get you a good one.” ellie said, turning to david and shooting him a smile before she kept looking. “i do say so.” she replied, holding the shirts she’d found for him in her hands. the young mother chuckled when she heard david talking to charlie, and she leaned in to press a loving kiss on top of the baby’s head. “he’s adorable, isn’t he ?” her son’s adorableness had made her completely forget about the shirts she was holding for a second, but then, she remembered. “but okay – which of these do you like better ?” ellie asked, holding up the three shirts she’d found. 

“Very adorable,” he agreed with a smile as he looked at the little boy fondly before looking up at the small woman offering him help. “I like the one on the right. The patterns nice, it’s not too much that it’s in your face. But it’s not so boring.” He commented on the shirt trying to give his best feed back like he wasn’t just about to buy a plain grey button up. “Maybe that style, but not that colour?”

Mat was so focused on making sure the painting stayed right where it was that he didn’t even realize what the other was saying right away. When he did he rushed to him, taking up one side of it so Ben could take the other. Well, that was obviously way more heavy then he though. It made him feel bad for snapping before. “Okay, how are we going to go about this? We need to hang this here.”

David let a little sigh of relief out as Mat helped him out and grabbed the other side. “Well lucky enough, I have the hammer in my belt here, we just need the screws...” he trailed off as he glanced around and noticed them on the floor, “there.” He gently placed one foot out and scotted them towards him while focusing on making sure the painting didn’t drop. How they had ended up there was beyond him. When he brought them by his foot he looked at the man he was helping, “well if we squat I can pick those up, and then hammer it in one handed no problem.”

“Oh my God.” Maia wrinkled in her nose in a disgust that very clearly matched the tone in her voice, shaking her head quickly at his question. “Definitely something different. Come with me.” She took the shirts from him, setting them back onto one of the racks, and lead him over to a different section of the store. After rifling through a selection of tops for a few, long moments, she finally selected a sheer, black top, and held it up for him to examine. “Here. This one is way cuter. Try it on, and thank me later. Or now. Depends on how cute you look in it, but I’m pretty much never wrong, so…”

His face dropped as he looked down at the shirts in his head, of course he had been wrong. He was glad he asked as the shirts were taken away from him and he followed the woman. He lloked at the shirt critically and a little skeptically as he took it from her, “it’s great. Really. It’s just uh, isn’t this going to be a little see-through. I’m getting dinner with my mom after all.” He didn’t want to reject the help, clearly he was desperate. But this seemed out of his comfort zone for sure.

“They’re popular.” Jess laughs, shrugging her shoulders and folding her arms. Her own brother wears this similar brand. Gosh, what was she even saying? She tended to say stupid shit in front of attractive guys. “What’s the occasion? She decides to ask. "Wedding? Graduation? A date?” She wiggles her brows playfully.

“Well I guess they have to be popular for a reason, huh?” He shot back with a small smile. He always felt like cliche things and popular things had to be mostly true, other wise they wouldn’t be so common. He laughed as she wagged her eyebrows and shook his head, “no no god no. It’s my moms birthday. I’m just trying to look nice for her.” He blushed slightly, he was sure he seemed like an idiot or a mamas boy sap. But his mother meant a lot to him, and he wanted the night to be perfect.

Ava wasn’t sure what it was about her that made people feel she was the right person to give fashion advice but she didn’t mind. And when the person asking was a good looking hottie like this one, how could she refuse? She looked over the options he was showing her, biting her lip in thought before pointing to the light blue button up shirt. “I think they would both look good on you but the blue one will really bring out your eyes and make them pop. How about you try it on so I can really see and confirm though?”

He stared at the shirts for a moment, nodding as he took in her words. He looked up at her as his eyebrows shot up, “you don’t mind? Thank you, I really do appreciate the help. I’m useless with this stuff, but I need to look nice for my mom” he chuckled as he started walking towards the changing room.

“Sometimes it takes another person for you to see it from another perspective! But also, I think it helps that I am on the gay side of things so you are totally getting the Queer Eye experience here.” Elijah teased the blonde male as he looked at him, sizing him up because he was pretty cute. “Well of course, I always keep it brutally honest!” Which was one of the many things that people did not like about Elijah. He kept it real with people and wasn’t scared to admit that and sometimes people didn’t like when Elijah would call them out on their bullshit. 

“You’ve got a fair point,” he agreed with a smile, knowing he was right about the fresh perspective. He laughed a little at the Queer Eye comment, having actually watched every episode due to his friendship with Ellie. “Look as long as you don’t tell me to French tuck I think we’ll be okay here.” He gave a toothy grin, “I’d rather know someone who’s brutally honest than not honest at all. I like to know what I’m getting.” He looked at the grey shirt one more time, holding it up against himself, “I think you’re right, this should work.”

River was at the department store shopping for more outfits for work. In truth, he probably only needed a few more seeing as his closet was decently stocked with business casual attire for his lectures. However, the dress code was one of his favorite perks that came with being a professor; so, he genuinely enjoyed shopping for his work clothes. He looked up from the rack he’d been browsing through when he heard someone speak to him. “Oh, I quite like the light blue one. I think it’d look great on you, personally. Which one were you leaning towards?”

He nodded at the other mans words and looked down at the shirts again. “Well honestly, I was thinking the grey. Its reliable, goes with more things, safe.” He shrugged, he had never really known what clothes suited him or thought of himself as all that attractive. “But if you think the blue one looks nicer,  maybe I should try something that looks nice for a change.”

      “oh, you can always rely on me.” she said, giggling when she saw the other’s face light up at the sight of her baby boy, which made her press a kiss to the infant’s head. “your biggest fan is happy to see you too. you wanna hold him?” the young mother asked, bouncing him up a little. she began browsing the shirts around them, picking out a few that she thought he would look good on him. “your mom’s birthday? that sounds nice, but definitely not the place for a jumpsuit.” she agreed, chuckling lightly. “maybe just a dark shirt with some well-fitting jeans, and maybe some boots or clean sneakers could look good.” ellie said, mind running wild with possibilities of outfits for him. “don’t worry, you’ll look great.”

“Yeah, sure” He said with a bright smile as he grabbed him off the young mother so she could take a better look. He gave a smile and cooed at Charlie before protectively holding him, making sure to keep his head up, and supported. “Yes, thought it would require a new shirt.” He gave a light chuckle. He nodded as she talked trying to keep up with her words, “If you say so I trust you.” He turned his attention to the little boy in his arms and spoke in an animated voice. “Your mommy is just the best! Isn’t she?”

Getting an apology was nice and very much appreciated, even though he knew that he was mostly to blame in the first place. Knowing and admitting it out loud were two very different things and Mat had no intention of doing that. He watched as the other actually followed his instructions this time and let out a shout when the painting was finally in the position he wanted it to be. “There! It looks great there, don’t you dare move it.”

David froze instantly as he was told not to move, hands stilled, arms locked into place as he stared at it. He turned just his head, “if you don’t want me to move, I’m going to need a hand here.” He motioned his head towards the painting, trying to beckon him over. “Hurry up then. Before my arms fall off” he grinned.

Jess pursed her lips as she views the shirts he has picked out for himself. “Between these two, the light blue one.” she answered and starts to gesture up as she speaks. “I think it helps pop out your eyes a little more and makes you feel more approachable. It can fit any occasion, but that’s just my opinion.” she shrugs her shoulders and offers a smile. “They’re both really nice shirts.. great brand.”

He nodded as she spoke, the words all making sense and seeming simple when she said them. But he never would have come to that conclusion. He held the blue shirt slightly higher as he took a closer look “I think you’re right.” He flashed a grin, “thank you, I really appreciate that. I am useless when it comes to clothes. Glad I picked a good brand though.”

Looking around in the store, Elijah was constantly worried about what good clothes he had in his possession. He wanted to make sure that people had a good vision of him even though he was a chef, which is why he found himself at the store in this moment. Eli was taken by surprise when his attention was grabbed and he looked over at the guy who was holding an outfit up to himself. “I am not going to lie, I think think the grey will work better because it goes with way more than blue ever would actually!” He spoke honestly. 

David smiled gratefully at the other mans comment, “of course! I hadn’t even thought of that!” David usually didn’t have to pick out outfits since most of his work was done in overalls. He hated to admit it but he just didn’t even know what to look for, which is why he really appreciated the mans help. “I appreciate the honesty.”

when  he  mentions  having  a  dog , it  makes  more  sense  as  to  why  he  understood  and  offered  to  help . he  too , was  a  dog  dad . “ dogs  are  just  so  pure . i  wish  they  lived  longer . ” he  really , really  did . it  would  honestly  be  a  dream  come  true  for  ripley  to  die  the  same  day  he  does , but  he  knows  they  live  a  rather  short  life  compared  to  humans . he  nods  his  head  at  his  words , walking  in  that  direction . maybe  he  was  right  and  he  had  walked  too  far  away  from  his  place . maybe  he  was  really  close  by  and  he  had  done  all  this  for  nothing . he’s  wiping  at  his  eyes  again  and  he’s  trying  to  keep  a  positive  mindset , but  it’s  hard . “ i  hope  so . i  would  be  super  relieved ! if  he  is  though , he  really  did  make  me  print  out  like  five  hundred  flyers  for  nothing . ” he  wouldn’t  even  be  angry  because  he  loves  that  dog  so  much .

“You’re right. Dogs are the purest, and they deserve the best and to be protected at all costs. So don’t worry, we’ll find your little guy.” David was happy to find someone with a similar love for dogs, although he had wished it was under better circumstances. He nodded, he knew well that dogs often because family members, and loosing one was like loosing a loved one. “I hope so too,” he paused for a minute as he turned to face the other, “you printed five hundred flyers? I admire your dedication.”

     “oh, no, you should get a darker one, or maybe one with a pattern depeding on the occasion – but you came to the right person.” ellie said, smiling at david. if there was something that came even close to her love of music was her love of fashion, and if she was talented as something it was at giving fashion advice. “you’re headed int he right direction, though. that cut’s gonna look great on you. a plus for effort.”

The relief that washed over him was almost instant as he saw who he had turned to. “I knew I’d be able to rely on you Ellie.” He smiled even brighter when he saw Charlie was with her, “and my number one fan? I know I’m good hands now!” He exclaimed before nodding along, “okay darker or print. I can handle that.” He laughed at her slight evaluation, “thank you thank you. It’s my moms birthday soon, so I’m trying. Didn’t think a jumpsuit would be good enough.”

David must not have seen Aaron clearly. Great. All he was trying to do was grab a couple of things for himself at Saks, and head back to work. He had a million things to do today, but he was walking by the store and he just had to walk in. It was pretty clear that Aaron had a shopping problem, but he couldn’t help himself. Aaron cleared his throat as the older man approached him. And turned so that David could see his face clearly. There was no sense in hiding from him now. That would just make things more awkward. “Just get both.” He suggested flatly, knowing the man had enough money for that anyway. He turned back towards the clothes he was looking at prior to David asking his opinion, in hopes that he’d just go away. Aaron was not about to get into another fight. 

His smile faltered when he saw who he had actually asked for help. There was no denying that Aaron Hart had great style, just like there was no denying that he didn’t like David. He wasn’t too sure what he had done to deserve the dislike, he hadn’t talked to Aaron all that much hell he never even really talked Alison that much when they were forced to date. He felt his defenses and walls go up, he was too stubborn to walk away now, not wanting Aaron to have the last word, as petty as that sounded. “Right,” he said with a slight nod. “Hopefully my mom likes one of them. Thanks for the help.”
