Give me your maelstrom girls. Your women with hurricanes in their hearts and tsunamis in their souls. Give me girls whose mouths spit poison and never smile on command. Give me the ones that burn too hot and bright, and let them go to war. Let them save their sisters who still wear the flower crowns, and don’t yet have a taste for violence.
black holes are only as strong as their stars burned bright - c.k (via widowbitesandhearingaids)
brjinho:
a couple bumps into them and when he senses ara’s stumbling into him, she’s pressed so close to him her breath sweet, mixing with the perfume she wore and a hint of just something else hits his lips. he smiles sheepishly sure he can feel his own cheeks painted with a blush. it wasn’t that he wasn’t used to compliments even from ara it was in her nature to always be forefront with her sincerity and even he had found her charm irresistible, unable to keep from smiling whenever he was around her. he truly was lucky. his hands rest lower on her hips keeping her close to him.
jinho’s gaze on her he loves how her eyes crinkle in mirth, and he chuckles lightly when she calls him out for having spent his time with other women at this party. he shakes his head lightly, he is doing his best to forget his disastrous meeting with jinri and her father, being with ara it made him forget about how the evening had started on a sour note. “the woman most worth my time, is doing me the honor in gracing me with her presence.” he replies with a smirk, in a manner he knew ara would have responded to him in. she had rubbed off on him in more ways than one, and he would say it was for the better.
“how about you, i’m sure men have been throwing themselves at the chance to be near you?” he wouldn’t blame them, ara is wonderful. beautiful, charming, intelligent, how had he been so lucky to be in her embrace.
there’s something about being with jinho that’s so strangely calming. for someone who’s always on the move like ara is, it’s difficult to slow it down a notch; but being here with him, it makes her want to stay in the moment, not wanting it to end. the first song has come and gone, but she makes no attempt to move, wanting to stay close like this. another dance seems like the obvious choice. she hasn’t been able to stop smiling, and hearing him compliment her only makes her even more giddier. it’s obvious he’s simply playing along, but he’s doing a damn good job. “if you’re not careful, i might actually start believing you.” and her ego is already too big.
“you’re absolutely right,” she’s sighing exasperatedly, “i’ve had to fend them off of me the entire night.” she’s certainly had her fair share of attention, but nothing in particularly comes to mind. the secrecy is entertaining; she’d spent the night wondering if she’d known any of the guests she’d danced with, only recognizing a few. but the most fun she’d had so far had been outside, with minwoo. she doesn’t bother to indulge him with this information though, selfishly wanting to keep the focus on them instead.
“i’d much rather be here with you than any of them, though.” it’s said rather nonchalantly, or at least it’s supposed to be. but ara finds that there’s a certain truth to it – she really does love to be in jinho’s company, and would rather be here in his arms than anywhere else right now. the revelation is a bit startling, causing her cheeks to grow warm. her mask doesn’t cover her entire face, but she hopes it’s enough to hide the obvious redness.
brminwoo:
decadence, glamour and beautiful people in a single venue. hyun’s hands are the only ones who can craft extravaganza of such magnitude. his wicked touch is noticeable in every detail. the hwangs receive invitations as social tradition, and family obligation, dictates. each of them decide on contrasting times to leave for the party. minwoo, an early bird, is not drawn to excess and his sober outfit pick reflects it. while he loves the spotlight on him, it is different when he is required to veil his true self behind a mask. the need to put on airs emerges from his whole character, his last name. there is no point in anonymous trivialities.
the buzz inside his breast pocket is unexpected. plenty of the guests attending have his number, yet they are all drowning in chaos. the outside world is now eclipsed by raw pleasure. it is ara the one that still remembers him beyond debauchery. she possesses sufficient experience to identify him among the crowd, but her message results in surprise. he is unsure about the manner in which he should approach her, especially after their last conversation. minwoo’s silver tongue failed the moment of the revelation. however, for the middle song sister to address him in a casual way, it must correspond to a good sign.
her name on his phone screen is peculiar, the outcome of an inside joke between two good friends. long ago, his knowledge about batman was average, involving movies and action figures. plus, the laughable relationship between the superhero and their own species. then, ara decided to instruct him on his alter ego. according to her deliberate research, bruce wayne and hwang minwoo shared a few traits: rich and stoic. the girl made him sit through enough works of fiction until he accepted the comparison. ara also found a complement to his newly assigned code name, which she accompanied with the cat emoji.
minwoo abandons his glass and texts back using the same tone, in hopes that the informality continues. his question is essential for the search.
[ kkt → selina kyle 🐈 ] i don’t see the problem with it [ kkt → selina kyle 🐈 ] what color are you wearing?
the sky lacks in stars tonight, looking impossibly endless. a few clouds scattered about decorate it, their usual whiteish color now a midnight blue. ever since she’d been little, ara’s longed to be able to reach them—to fly away from the confinement she still calls home, like a migrating bird. maybe that’s why it’s become habit for her to walk the roofs, constantly looking for a place higher up. whenever she’s in search for peace of mind, or simply in need of a bit of clarity, she’s found there.
her phone’s buzzing in the clutch she’d been carrying. she’s pleasantly surprised to see the name on the screen, absentmindedly wondering what he’s doing on his phone instead of enjoying the party. then again—she’s one to talk. she’s atop the roof’s ledge, picking up the ends of her dress in one hand to twirl around carelessly, her phone in the other hand typing in a reply.
( kkt ⇝ bruce wayne 🦇 ) hwang minwoo, oblivious? ( kkt ⇝ bruce wayne 🦇 ) it’s more likely than you think!
she’s smiling. though it’s in reference to his disinterest in color, her comment hints at something more. but after a decade of tirelessly pining, it’s nice to be able to joke about it without feeling like it’s the end of the world. it’d taken a while before she’d been able to reach this point, but it’s pleasant. freeing. she hadn’t realized how much it’d burdened her; like a pressing weight on her shoulders. even in the many days where they’d been apart, she’d been full of anger and regret. in comparison, not feeling much of anything is a relief.
( kkt ⇝ bruce wayne 🦇 ) i’d tell you to look around and guess but that’d be a bit unfair considering i’m outside now ( kkt ⇝ bruce wayne 🦇 ) it’s champagne-colored but trust me i look way better than how that tastes 😤

brjinho:
jinho had been surprised to say the least when he had received the invitation to im hyunmin’s party. he was sure there had been some sort of mistake, but when ara had called him squealing with excitement and how “cha jinho you have to go” he really knew no matter how much he declined that there was no way that ara was going to let him skip out on something like this. it wasn’t that he didn’t like parties, actually that was the case. he wasn’t much of a party goer but he didn’t want to disappoint ara who had come over to help him pick out an outfit once she deemed that he dressed like a grandfather.
he had gulped seeing himself in such a get up, he wasn’t even sure how ara managed to find something like this in his closet. jinho hadn’t been aware he had owned an outfit like this, perhaps a gift? he really hoped he sent a thank you card at some point. it hadn’t been too revealing it was mostly the material of the shirt exposing his chest not that he had anything to be ashamed of. he worked out but he hoped under the dim lighting of this party it could be ignored that he was walking around in fishnet? ara called it mesh. it was see through. jinho was standing off to the side drinking his fourth? fifth? (he’s kind of lost count at this point) glass of champagne after his encounter with bogum he needed to take some of the edge off after dealing with the vampire.
jinho is approached by a masked woman, she seems to glide towards him and he finds he can’t take his eyes off her, dark hair framing her face eyes hidden behind a mask. he hears her voice unmistakeable as she takes his hand in hers. ara. her voice light in his ear and he finds it difficult not to smile as he allows her to lead him to the dance floor, her arms drape around his neck and he places his hands on her waist swaying in rhythm with ara already feeling lighter in her presence. he goes along with her act of them being strangers. “my night has improved greatly now that i am with you.” he says, “i am in the company of the most stunning girl here, i am very lucky.”
to be honest, ara hadn’t expected him to agree on the outfit she'd chosen for him to wear. the look he’d given her, she’s not even sure if he truly had agreed on it, but to her surprise he’d actually put it on. as she’d predicted, he looked good. she’d chosen it simply because she’d been curious as to whether he’d be able to rock this kind of outfit (and her answer: a solid yes), but if he’d asked, she’d tell him that he doesn’t actually need a mesh shirt in order to catch anyone’s attention. who ever needs a flashy attire, being classically handsome? besides, his grandfather suits had a strange kind of charm, too.
still, she has to give herself a pat on the back for it. especially the color; this midnight blue looked amazing on him, and it just happened to be a shade of her favorite color. she’s still admiring it when another couple gracelessly stumbles into them, clearly having too much fun to watch where they’re going. everyone’s dancing so near to each other, it’s no surprise. because of it, she’s pushed further into jinho’s arms, ending up pressed close against him. it doesn’t particularly bother her; ara doesn’t make any attempts to step back again.
“oh, not only handsome. you’re charming too,” she’s still as playful as ever, but there’s no denying the way her eyes crinkled in delight as she smiled because of his flattery. she loves compliment, of this she’s sure he’s aware. she continuously pesters him for praise at work, after all. he never fails to entertain her. his answer briefly makes her wonder what he's been up to, curious how his night has been. “but a liar. i’m sure you’ve been in the company of many beautiful women tonight, as you deserve to be.” even when acting like a stranger, her soft spot for him is clear.
brjinri:
it was odd to stand outside when inside the warehouse family, friends and strangers alike were heavily indulging in the hedonistic paradise that the place was just for that night. the thrill of the night got sucked out of her within moments, her joy brought to ruins. in her humble view, it was beyond unfair, of course. at home, her mother and father already ruled with an iron fist. prepared the words she had to recite when she represented the house, dressed her up like she was still a child, held lectures like it was their calling. and yet, they had the audacity to invade hyun’s party, clearly a place two freaking old people had no business to be at. as odd as it sounded, it was a safe place for her. she knew her uncle always had a watchful eye on her during those occasion or had lackeys to make sure she was fine. it was her opportunity to indulge in the pleasures of life without worries and her father had the nerve to destroy that. like he did everything else. like iron hands picking up a flower. ultimately, they would crush it. she pulled the mask off of her face, quiet sniffs escaping her as she threw it onto the cobblestone ground. without any care for the elaborate dress she was wearing, she lowered herself onto the ground. angling her legs she pulled her knees close to her, wrapping her arms around them before letting her head hang, energy leaving her body. where the fuck was ara? sowon? hyun? anyone in this godforsaken town that would listen to her, anyone she could pour her soul out to. tears started obscuring her vision and a sob overcame her body, so powerful she didn’t hear someone else exiting the building behind her. / / @brsong
for a time longer than she’d truly realized, ara has been sitting here, alone in the room they’d so haphazardly stumbled into. keyword being: alone. she’s confused, for the most part. pissed off, just a little. frustrated? definitely. he really couldn’t have freaked out afterwards, huh. it’s with a huff of breath that she blows some strands of hair from her face, her hand casually sliding through it to try and fix its messy state. she’s in dire need for some air, so it’s with a scowl that she picks herself up. her mask had been discarded in that room but she felt no desire to put it back on. she’d lost her heels somewhere inside of this damn warehouse too – doesn’t even know if this is the first or second time – and there’s no doubt her dress is all wrinkled up and out of place. ara’s infuriation is what keeps her head high as she slips through the crowd; she’d already lost her dignity when stepping through that door.
the air is colder than hours before, when she’d gone out for a breather. still it’s pleasant on her skin, vague irritation prickling underneath, enough to keep her heated. sighing, she wonders where jinri is, the urge to smoke and vent overpowering her right now – but that’s when she hears it; choked-up noises, as though someone’s crying somewhere near her, sounding distinctively familiar. her eyes land on a heap on the floor soon after. “jini?” the nickname is said carefully, as if she’s unsure as to whether that’s truly her – but then she realizes that yes, that loud, sobbing mess on the ground really is her jinri. all and every other thought dissipate and she’s sitting beside her within seconds, her arms immediately coming around to hold her best friend close, pulling her in for a tight hug. “hey,” she’s talking softly in an attempt to soothe her, catching her gaze, “what’s wrong? are you okay?” an unbidden thought enters her head, and it makes her blood curl; her voice grows in volume again, as if she’s out to kill. “did someone hurt you?”
@brminwoo!
with one last curtsy which earns her a smile from her partner, ara takes her chance to glide away before she’s pulled into another dance—she’s been here for well over an hour, and she’s been swaying ever since. the attention is flattering – she’s sure that the sheer material of her dress has something to do with it – but her feet want a small break before they continue waltzing. these heels were not made for walking, ugh, and she can’t be bothered to wear them any longer.
but before she can take them off and hop around barefeet, something else catches ara’s attention. maybe it’s because of the plainness of his suit, or the fact she’s spent enough time with him to recognize the way he carries himself, but hwang minwoo is easy to spot. her first instinct is to say hi, but it’s swallowed back after she remembers the way she’d gotten up and left last time they’d spoken. though his answer hadn’t been what she’d expected, the bitterness had come and gone, and for the first time in quite a while ara is relieved, knowing she can look at him without a pressing weight on her chest. still, she opts for another way of communication, not wanting to interrupt his night. her fingers type away on a familiar device as she finds her way outside for some fresh air.
( txt ⇝ bruce wayne 🦇 ) that outfit could’ve used a bit of color 😤
who knows when he’ll read it. the cool night air is refreshing, even as her hair whips into her face annoyingly. leaning over the balcony, she looks up instead of down, eyeing the flat roof. there has to be a stairs leading up, but she can’t be bothered to go around and find it. this time, she does kick her heels off. the jump’s not that high – at least not for her kind – and it’s one second later, with the swiftness and grace of a cat, that she’s climbed atop the ledge, her dress in one hand to make sure it’s not in her way. from up high, the view’s always better. a break from all the stuffiness inside will be nice.
@brjinho!
the crowd around her buzzes with activity, keeping her mood high-spirited. despite the many masks, and the fact she barely has an idea of who is who, the night’s been incredibly entertaining so far. and, when her eyes land on a particular someone, she knows it might just become even more fun. to be honest, she’s surprised their paths hadn’t crossed sooner. it’s impossible for her not to recognize him – ara had helped him with his outfit, after all. yet when she finally catches sight of his familiar suit quite a few hours into the evening, she’s pleasantly surprised, immediately perking up.
excusing herself from the guest who’d been trying to chat her up, she makes her way over to jinho, in search of his company instead. after all, by now it’s almost like tradition for them to have a little one on one at these kind of events. maybe he’d have some tales to share. with a tap on his back to alert him of her presence, she squeezed his shoulder lightly, her hand seeking out his to take a hold of his fingers. “such a strange sight,” she’s smiling, playful, “to see such a handsome man like yourself not kicking it on the dancefloor. guess we’ll have to change that!”
she doesn’t bother to let him know it’s her; putting up the act of them being two strangers – but she’s sure he can tell despite the mask that’s covering her face; if not by her voice, then perhaps by her insistency to dance with him, pulling him towards the middle of the floor. the song is in a slow tempo, so his hands are guided to her waist as her arms wrap carelessly around his neck. subconsciously, she wonders if he likes her dress. but that thought is quickly dispelled when she, consciously, wonders why that would even matter— “and how are you enjoying yourself, kind sir?”
brhyunmin:
any encounter since that near divine week in paris had been of fleeting nature. apart from his own party, during the handful of times he had accidentally stumbled upon ara in the company of an eager jinri at the hwang manor he had excused himself to discuss important business with his sister. the grudge of the female hwang was large when hyun didn’t actually bring any topics of discussion to the table but he figured he could afford a white lie every once in a while to save himself from this painful imagination of an endless conversation. “guess we’ll never know.” his espresso was drowned in one shot, almost disappointed it didn’t give him the power of ten bulls in an instant. “funny”, he said in a dry tone, a gloomy gaze meeting her eyes. “how much money do you need? i thought you songs aren’t too bad off.” the tiny mug found its way back onto the saucer on his sleek office desk before hyun leaned back once more, comfortably resting against the leather padding, crossing his hands behind his neck. her kittenish manner annoyed him, amused him and awakened his curiosity all at the same time. it was one of the rare days he wasn’t in the mood for games, yet the overly confident spectacle she was performing for him was entertaining in its own odd way and ultimately, hyun did wonder what he possibly had to offer to ara. she didn’t seem the kind to be interested in his type of business anyway, nor could he imagine the songs were in desperate need of alms. the rendition of her proposition ( a very nice word for blackmail ) was met by hyun with utter dumbfoundedness. he slowly lowered his arms from their confidence-assuring crossed position, as if what he was hearing drained the life and energy out of him with every further sylablle. surely, she had gone crazy. also certainly, ara had never spent even one minute in the same room with hwang bogum. it was beyond impossible to know even an ounce of the hwang patriarch’s character and still be so bold to assume anyone ever could change his stance on things. ara couldn’t be so stupid. at least, that’s what hyun hoped. “first of all”, he started, reaching behind her to pull away a few documents she had been leaning against. “for your sake, i am going to ignore that threat. you can thank me later. second of all, are you out of your fucking mind?” he neatly assembled the papers again, nearly a metaphor for how he was trying to arrange the thoughts bolting through his own mind right now. “is that all? or want me to ask the south korean president to leave his wife and make you his first lady? that man is a fucking icecold wall. bogum, that is. the president is a pleasant flower in comparison.” the documents found their way into a black file, stuffed away into a drawer, out of sight for more damage by ara and her coy performance. “you and me both know you are asking for the impossible.”
“us songs have more than enough,” ara can’t help but mimic his dry tone, her eyes alight with laughter. it's such a stark contrast to his gloom and doom expression. “but some of us prefer to make a name for ourselves rather than to live in the shine of the one we’ve been given.” money doesn’t always equal power. not the kind she’s seeking, anyway. perhaps he could relate. amused by his look of incredulity, she waits for his spiel to be over, not bothering to interrupt to defend herself. she already knows she has his attention, and that’s all she needs right now. “first of all, nothing’s impossible if you want it bad enough.” and if you have several back-up plans. he’s only plan b. the one she'd hoped to avoid, considering she did look back at their short-lived rendezvous quite fondly.
“second of all, i’m aware that you have very little sway over hwang bogum—” her smile, still impish, is a tell-sign that she’s heard all about their extravagant family dinners whenever hyunmin’s in town—and the mess he’s usually creating, always entertaining jinri. her adoration for him is cute, and ara really doesn’t want to be the person to ruin it. but this is too important. besides, if everything goes according to plan, she won’t have to. “—but you happen to be related to the only person that does.” with her finger still on the photo frame, ara’s gaze settled on the woman in the photograph; the one she’d once held dear but now could barely stand the sight of.
“in all the time i’ve spent with your family, i’ve only ever seen him concede to your sister.” how romantic – if it weren’t for the fact he was such a dick to his children (and their friends, and, uh, everyone else), ara would’ve admired his devotion to his wife. “convince her. she’ll convince him.” she makes it sound so easy, but if he played his cards right, wouldn’t it be? “considering her disdain towards her own daughter,” and this is the first time her cheshire cat-like grin falters; her lip curled in an expression of contempt. “it really shouldn’t be that hard.”
with one eyebrow kinked up, ara pushed up and away from the desk, drawing herself to full height in front of him. it's not quite as imposing as he appeared to be, but there was no ounce of hesitation anywhere within her. “this is a threat,” she shrugs. “but it's not one that's up for discussion, hyunmin.” besides, it’s more so a promise. a promise that she won’t hesitate to do what is necessary, if that’s what it takes. (perhaps she had more in common with ahyoung than she ever truly realized.) “i want an answer. will you, or won’t you?”
And how do we make it stop?

brminwoo:
❝he deserved that good scare. i’m sorry that he ruined your trip,❞ he sounded apologetic. minwoo perceived her emotions shift at the thought of the incident. the years spent with ara eventually provided him with the skill to read her. when she told him about europe, the girl had sounded quite excited (to the point that she wanted him to accompany her). it was a shame that it ended in tragedy. for sure, he knew of equally deviant vampires, but humans carried the implication of a species below them. to their eyes, they were not the most brilliant creatures out there. his hand almost reached out for her arm to give her an appreciative squish, however, he could not tell if he was allowed to. better to let her initiate any type of contact like the pinky promise. she tended to lead him in every sense after all.
minwoo shrugged in response to her question, not being able to give her a concrete answer. silence reigned after this small gesture of ignorance. knowing his daily life felt short to her anecdotes, what could be as interesting to the adventurous ara? ever since they stopped seeing each other, he fell into a comfortable routine that would have bored her to death. the middle song child was always his source of entertainment and diversion around seoul — he would follow ara to any place recommended to her. for his part, whether it was university or the council, he poured his soul into it. his effort doubled now that his best friend had turned into a complete stranger.
“coming home wasn’t all bad.” but it’d been pretty bad. she’d felt a bit lost, especially without her best friend. and she’d definitely felt ashamed, being pulled in front of the council. but she’d survived. that’s what ara does best: survive, even though what she’d prefer to do is to simply live. looking at minwoo out of the corner of her eye, she realizes he’s not about to give her a response to her question – probably overthinking it, as he always does. never seems to realize that she’s content with just having him there.
“do you remember that time we got pretend married in this room?” though her question is coming seemingly out of nowhere, her smile is soft while reminiscing, “i think we were about ten. it’d been our, what, fifth marriage?” ara’s shaking her head, fully well realizing how ridiculous she’d been. but if she’s being honest, she liked that version of herself better. “this one was special, though. i’d made sure your mother would attend. i gave her an invitation and everything.” hyekyung had showed up – she’d even entertained the whole event by giving ara her veil to wear; she’d absolutely drowned in its size but ara had treasured it. hell, even bogum had come to see what the commotion had been about. “jinri complained about being the flower girl again. i think she wanted to marry you, too.” she’s laughing now, thinking about how hectic it’d all been. “but you didn’t complain once. you just said your fifth ‘i do’ and let me hold your hand all day.” and she’d been nothing but appreciative, back then and now.
she’s silent for a long beat, but then decides to jump into the deep. “i’ve been in love with you for so long, it’s become a part of me.” it’s the first time ara has told him the full extent of what she'd felt; they’d never truly spoken about any of it aside from her apology. her stomach’s in knots. “and i’ve been through it all: denial, hurt, anger, loneliness. the hope that it’ll all pass.” two years is a long time—but it’s nothing in comparison to a decade. “it did, for the most part. but there’s one thing that i can’t— i can’t get past it. and i really, really want to.” her gaze is on him now, imploring. “why not me?” ‘why not the person who’s already shared a lifetime with you?’ it’s a question she’s asked herself at least a thousand times. a deep-rooted fear of not being enough; not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough. “what’s wrong with me?”

@brhyuna!
keys dangling between her fingers, ara’s whistling a random tune as she exits the cha residence. she’d promised to lock it up after her boss been called into one of his council meetings (boring!) so – like the great assistant she is – ara’s leaving one hour early and doing exactly that. it’s nice out, even despite the fact it’s nighttime, and she wonders if she should simply leave her car there and walk home. she could come by and pick it up tomorrow, despite it being her day off. lost in her thoughts, she ponders this for a minute—
there’s a rustle of leaves; a twig snaps into half. ara immediately turns around, wary. a human would have difficulties seeing, but as a vampire it’s quite easy to notice the shadow not quite disappearing into the night. but she doesn’t even need to see to know someone’s there. “who are you—” it’s not a regular person, there’s something off about this one. there’s a sense of dread in the pit of her stomach. this better not be one of those damn level e vampires who’ve been roaming about. her hand’s already in her purse; ever since she’d started to work here, she’s put jinho on speed dial. “—and what are you doing here?” and if speed dial isn’t speedy enough, there’s still her illusions.
