Wacky Point-Five Series #5: C

Finished this one on May 16th. I love how massive her head looks lol. This photo is of my tattoo artist and I thought the lens flares would be a really interesting challenge. I really wanted to hone in on the fine details, so I used one of my finest brushes to water down white and black ink for a boat load of high and lowlights. Rushed this one a bit though. I gave this one to her at my latest session.

I need to train myself out of mixing my paint in too small of batches and to start using larger, wider brushes. This one has a lot of detail but the brush strokes are very rough and shaky in some places. The color does seem to be getting better so I’ll take that!

Wacky Point-Five Series #4: HH

Finished this on May 4th. Another Halloween photo of a good buddy dressed as Barrel (sans the creepy ahh mask) from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Started with the eyes on this one and initially, I was going to say they turned out pretty great but I am just now noticing how blocky the eye on the right is looking. I’ll have to touch that up because now I’m sorta annoyed I let it get that far without seeing that. Nose looks off and a bit too dark. Since this one I’ve gotten into the habit of looking at the painting from different angles and distances.

Color is getting better at this point, but I still need to dial in the hue and value a bit. All in all I’m happy with the progression here. For this one I was dabbling with some severely watered down white paint to add thin layers of white over the existing layers of paint over the face.

Wacky Point-Five Series #3: SSS

Finished this’n on April 12th. Fun photo from a Mario Kart themed Halloween party last year. I enjoyed this process. The hat and the nails were particularly annoying for me. The cloak and glasses took the most time, but I enjoyed them bigly. Common theme here with the skin tones being effed up.

The pieces in the series are supposed to be gifts, so I 100% will need to touch up this bad boi and the two that came before it.

Wacky Point-Five Series #2: DB

Finished March 29th. This one was really fun. Good friend dressed as Dr Finkelstein. The glasses perplexed me and I definitely did not notice just how dark the background was. Still really enjoyed my time but needed to pay more attention to color matching.

Wacky Point-Five Series #1: JJMSB

Picked up painting back in February and this was the first piece I finished on March 11th.

I really like the film style effect and wanted to do a whole series with of close friends based on the distorted point-five lens.

Looking back, I definitely had a lot to learn about color matching and theory, but it was fun to try a new medium.

Typical chest day. Nothing crazy over here. I went over bench form with my trainer and discovered that my adductors are a limiting factor in me pushing through my legs during this movement. So I’ve been adding in some Copenhagen planks and whatnot.
