A little concerned himself, Reiner hugged the smaller boy back a bit hesitantly. “Marriage is like both are parents are together,” he explained lightly, trying to lighten the mood. “They were probably talking about someone else!”

Eren could tell something was bugging Reiner. Just what it was, he could only guess at things. He figured the titans had left permanent scars in Reiner’s mind, the way they had his own.

“You where having nightmares about the titans too weren’t you?” Musing was of course a communication form of choice between those who saw the titans all those years ago.

Reiner sucked in a sharp breath at Eren’s words. He knew that the other didn’t know the real reason behind his reaction and he was thankful for it. He reached out hesitantly and pet his knee, a sign of comfort.

“It’s gonna be okay,” he murmured, unclear as to which of them was the recipient. Perhaps they both needed the comfort, he thought bitterly.

Eren nods picking everything up. “Ypu think we’ll find a place we can hole up? Maybe not get the attention of desperate survivors or the dead?” Eren asked as he got everything strapped back on. “I really hope we find somewhere, my feet are throbbing from days of walking.”

Reiner sighed. The strain was taking it’s toll on his psyche already. He didn’t like this. “We can only hope.” An idea struck him then, and he wanted to hit himself for not having thought of it before. “Y’think we should maybe hide out in a forest or some place wild?” After all, all the affected were still in the destroyed cities now deserted.

Eren chuckled when the puppy licked his finger. “Well I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t, and that he was not like me in the way of being uber protective but sweet, and probably a little affectionate.” He smiled up at Reiner. “Next time, do me a favor and let your boyfriend know before you bring home a great dane puppy. We better get him a name.”

His grin grew wider and Reiner held the puppy so it would be easier for him to lick Eren’s hand easily. “Yeah, well... He’s tiny now,” he half mumbled in response, feeling a flush creep up his face at Eren’s smile. With a sheepish smile, Reiner nodded, “Definitely! Now that I know you won’t object to me bringing in more to the family.”

Reiner looked at her for a moment as if he hadn’t heard her. “Right,” he spoke at length. “Sorry, Historia. It keeps mixing,” he trailed off, not bothering to elaborate further. He almost flinched away at the smaller woman’s touch, but steeled himself to stay still. “I’m fine.”

Despite being a couple years older, the blonde prince was taken aback by the younger’s outburst. “What do you mean?”, he asked. “You probably misheard them, Eren”, he grinned, hoping the younger would calm down.

Reiner growled low and glared in the direction where those bastards had run off to. He wanted to give chase, but all their belongings were untouched as well. “Let’s go then.”

Run your fingers through all the edges and curves and see what you find. Just mimicry of a stubbornness that has caused resistance that won’t barge at the stroke of an empty song that isn’t reverberated by the soul. So kiss my goodbyes and taste of the horrors that has kept my eyes wide open most nights.

Eren stopped when he heard someone else move. None of the other cadets where awake. He looked over to Reiner’s bunk. Bertholdt made really long bathroom calls, but why was Reiner still awake?

He climbed out of his bed and walked over climbing up. “Reiner are you okay? I heard you moving around.”

At first he was taken aback when Eren actually moved towards his bed and then climbed in. He forgot to speak for a moment.  He cleared his throat that suddenly felt dry at Eren’s question.

“I’m fine,” he spoke in a low voice. “I just woke up when Bertl went to the bathroom,” he tried to sound casually annoyed.

Eren and Reiner where actually quite close during training, during these times Reiner is legitimately his soldier personality, but part of it rubs off onto the warrior and this confuses Reiner, but gives Eren hope that Reiner can be "saved".

Oh dear b l e s s this hc~It seems very legit though doesn’t it? :) Because Reiner was pretty confused between each personality and couldn’t get a proper grasp on either.
