general facts

buffy was born the oldest of six children, her father was a local preacher and her mother was a homemaker

for around the first thirteen years of her life, buffy feel very well into her role. she helped raise her younger siblings, never disobeyed her parents, and went to church every sunday and prayed throughout the day and also participated in homeschooling where her parents could command the cirriculum

the older buffy got, the more she questioned things about the world she saw outside of their small town and how people were treated in the name of their religion -- she was often punished for being "disrespectful" when she was innocently questioning

after a summer romance with a boy at bible camp, buffy was around six months pregnant before she fully realized what was happening (homeschooling never covered sex ed). abortion was never on the table and while her parents insisted that she keep the baby and raise it as their own, buffy chose to give the child up for adoption after he was born

her relationship with her parents never recovered -- they wouldn't speak to buffy in spite of the fact she was still living under the same roof as them. beliving she had nothing left to lose, buffy left town with a boy and made her way west with him as soon as she turned eighteen.

they made it as far as vegas before he hit her for the first time. after a brief time there, while the guy was out drinking, buffy stole the keys to his van and took off without him.

after settling near portland, living out of her van, buffy met a kind window named thelma who took her in and helped her to get her GED. after that accomplishment, she went on to get her vocational degree from beauty school -- making her way to fairford soon after, currently living in her van at the park in mountainside while she's building up her client books in town.

Blowing a raspberry and considering her story concluded, she runs her fingers through their hair as she slowly spun them in the salon chair.

"So, what are you thinking? Shorter for summer? Highlights? Colored streaks? Dream big, your wish is my command."

She was still a little out of it, thoughts a little fuzzy while she sat up in the piercing chair with an ice pack pressed to the bottom of her nose.

Buffy hadn't even dared look at the piercing yet -- afraid she might just pass out again at the sight of it.

The same way she had when the brief but powerful burst of pain had hit.

"Do you think I should have started out with the ears?" she questioned Mack, a little bleary and slightly mournful, as her eyes followed his movements.

"Septum was too ambitious for a beginner, wasn't it? I'm so sorry, I've only passed out at least six other times in my life."

As the brunette was leaning back behind the counter, her eyes firmed placed on the book that was spread open in front of her, Sasika barely noticed the trickle of the melodic bells that signalled a customer had arrived. This wouldn’t be the first time she’d been caught slacking off at her job. As much as she needed the money, it was hard to care a menial job that paid barely anything. Besides, the place was empty, despite this new arrival.

Her eyes didn't even look up momentarily as someone approached her, an air of annoyance of being disturbed while reading on the job exuded from her. “Browse all you want,” she insisted, eyes still focused on the pages before her. "But hands where I can see 'em. The owner told me to hex anyone I catch stealing."

Buffy had decided that today was a little treat day.

However, instead of buying something like an ice coffee (which he loved) or a an ice cream (which she also loved), she decided to mark the occasion with something a little more permanent.

Or something she could hold in her hands at least.

At the order of keeping her hands where they could be seen Buffy sincerely raises them, stomach twisting in slight guilt of the scrunches she had stolen from the drugstore previously.

"Wait, is that something you can actually do?" she questioned.

"I just try to golden rule my life and do unto others, you know? But I'm not perfect by any means. I put my pants on one leg at a time like everyone else. Two weeks ago I shoplifted some scrunchies and I'm still feeling bad about that."

the day's still early, barely hitting noon - but philly's been awake for much longer, watched the moon go down and the sky slowly lighten, back laid flat against the farmlands' plains on some farmer's private land. it doesn't matter if they can't see you - and she's always been good at disappearing at a moment's notice.

not now, though - now philly wants to be noticed, sitting outside of florence (of whom she broke out of car-jail - so what if she's missing a headlight and a bumper? if she starts, she works) with a flimsy foldable table. it's practically buckling beneath the weight of about a thousand random items flung atop it. it's a little bit of everything; handmade jewelry and bits of sea glass, broken lamps and crocheted tote bags with garish designs, near-matching the top she wore now. there's an extension collection of the animorph novels, and a poorly drawn picture of... something.

"hello," philly speaks to the first person she sees, pausing her activity of creating a bead lizard to stare at them with unblinking eyes, "welcome to my wares - would you like to purchase anything? they're all very worthwhile, i promise."

"Did you make that?" Buffy questioned as she approached the table -- she had been peeking distantly from the side from a good five minutes before she approached.

She's pointing at a latchhook rug featuring the image of a pink poodle -- and she can't take the smile off her face as she does.

"Also -- super cool bead lizard, by the way -- Would you take five dollars for it? The rug, I mean. Otherwise I wouldn't be opposed to trading? Do you like shampoo samples?"
