Wish Upon a Star: It was something far deeper
“What?!!!”
When Eclipse and Saturn fell asleep last night, the last thing they expected was to wake up in each other's body. Yet here they were, dealing with entirely foreign experiences and all because Sun had touched the device…again.
Saturn was frustrated and just wanted to return to her body. Eclipse, on the other hand, just felt off. But this feeling wasn't negative. In fact, it was the most comfortable Eclipse had ever felt. He couldn't help but look down at the new form he was inhabiting.
Eclipse should've felt the same amount of distress Saturn was and urgently wanted a fix. But he didn't. And he had no idea why that was the case. Did he just love Saturn so much that her body felt more complete than his own? Did he wish to be organic? Or was this an internal wish to finally be taller?
No matter how many potential reasons Eclipse came up with, none of them were truly the answer.
“Eclipse, what are you doing?”
Eclipse startled up and noticed Saturn looked at him strangely. That's when he realized, he was staring down the entire time he was thinking.
“I…I'm just surprised you can't see your own feet.”
Saturn huffed before going back to trying to find a solution, which sadly only took a couple more minutes.
Once back, Saturn rejoiced in having her own body again. Eclipse, however, was quiet. Saturn then had to leave for her meeting and they quickly said their goodbyes.
Ever since that day, Eclipse started to be more self conscious of his own body. It just didn't fit the same way Saturn's did. Why didn't it fit? He tried changing out his ribbons, moving his hat, and even made a sorry replica of Saturn's armor. Nothing worked and it only made Eclipse more and more frustrated.
Sun and Moon this entire time were confused and a little worried. Sun had tried distracting Eclipse and even came up with ideas to change up his appearance. Moon meanwhile gave little hints of approval, hoping that'd be enough. But Eclipse still felt off, and it was starting to wear him down.
Alongside Sun and Moon, Saturn had also noted the downslide of Eclipse's mental health. She had tried to talk to him before, but he kept saying it was just a small thing she didn't need to worry about. And while yes, she was dealing with her family, she wanted to understand what was going on with her husband. She trusted, however, that he would tell her once he was ready to do so.
One day at the Daycare, the children all decided that they wanted to play Princesses and Dragons. Eclipse expected to be thrown into the Dragon role. Instead, the kids asked him to be the princess. This wasn't an issue, he was always happy to wear a dress for the children.
The moment he put the dress on though, a familiar feeling resurfaced. That feeling only continued to grow throughout the game. But he couldn't be distracted, he was still on the clock and the children wanted him to pay attention to the story they were acting out.
Once the children left, Eclipse turned back to the dress up box and picked up that bright pink dress full of frills and lace.
“Eclipse, do you want to try it on again?”
It was surprisingly Moon who asked this. Instead of teasing how Moon was showing his soft spot again, Eclipse only wordlessly nodded his head before slipping the dress on again.
“Do you feel better now?”
Eclipse paused before answering.
“Yes? But, not fully.”
“What's missing?”
“I'm not sure Moon. I just know something is still off.”
“...Can I try something? If it makes you feel worse please stop me.”
“...Okay Sun”
“Saturn is lucky to have a pretty lady by her side.”
And with that, Eclipse finally pieced everything together. This body always felt wrong, Saturn's body only offered an option that didn't seemingly exist before. It wasn't the height. It wasn't the armor. It wasn't the clothes, or at least not entirely.
It was something far deeper.
Eclipse was a woman. And it took Sun messing around with the device to finally discover that about herself.
Wish Upon a Star: A connection
After Eclipse had her realization, she now had to find a way to tell Saturn. Sun and Moon were sure it'd be fine. Eclipse also knew deep down that Saturn would still love her. But it was still something new and different.
Saturn had started to worry by now. Eclipse had improved in his health, but he was still distant to her.
He wasn't telling her something.
Saturn couldn't help but wonder if with the arrival of Pluto, that he finally decided he had enough of her. She knew every other time she felt this he had always proved her wrong, but that fear never truly left.
Saturn did her best to not let that fear control her, but she only got more nervous as the days passed by. She even confided in Venus of her fear and was told, once again, that he wouldn't leave her.
Saturn didn't wish to push her husband, but her fear wouldn't leave her alone. Once the Daycare was closed, she pulled Eclipse to their room in the tower.
“My love, I need to ask you something.” Please let her assumptions be wrong.
“Yes, darling?”
“Why have you been so distant from me? Do…do you wish to leave?”
Eclipse felt guilt creep in. She had been worried about the best way to tell Saturn about herself that the time had made Saturn's fear rear its head once again. They had a conversation before on this topic and Eclipse had promised to never leave.
She gently took Saturn's hand and looked up to her eyes.
“Saturn, I never once thought of breaking The Rite of the Stars. I promised to always love you and that is a promise I intend to keep for the rest of my life.”
Saturn breathed in relief; her shoulders released a tension she didn't even realize was there. Eclipse was going to stay.
Eclipse then looked down and gently played with Saturn's hands.
“As for why I've been distant, I've…made a realization about myself. With the upcoming war and other stressors of our lives, I wasn't sure of the best time to tell you.”
Saturn then took her hands and softly raised Eclipse's head to her eyes.
“If you're ready, I'm listening now.”
Eclipse gently smiled and placed her hands on Saturn's.
“Saturn, I'm actually a woman. I have been the entire time but…I just never considered it until very recently.”
Saturn's ears perked up; a connection running through her head.
“The time our bodies were swapped.”
Eclipse nodded.
In just one second, Eclipse went from standing on her own to being pulled into Saturn's arms.
There were no words spoken, but the message was clear.
Wish Upon a Star: Nothing
With Pluto's arrival coming ever closer, Chica urgently worked on finding a way to safely split Sun, Moon and Eclipse's code.
Chica also wanted to make a brand new body, as the original version was just Eclipse's old body once again, but for time's sake Eclipse had asked her to stay focused on the code. A new, more affirming, body could wait until after the war. Not to mention, everyone was still shaken by the Ruin Virus.
Until then, everyone had pitched in to make Eclipse as comfortable as she could be within her current body. Freddie had shared one of her sweaters that she barely used and Chica found a skirt that would fit under the ruffles. And Saturn took any opportunity possible to declare Eclipse as her wife.
Soon enough, Chica finally was able to split their codes safely.
Just as originally planned, Sun and Moon got their old bodies back while Eclipse was moved to a replica of the original body. At the very least, Chica did add eyeliner to the body and made the ruffles a bit more like a skirt.
It was only a few short days later when Pluto arrived. With her own body, Eclipse wished to help and stand by Saturn's side. Though worried, Saturn agreed as she did promise that they'd face this new problem of their lives together.
Saturn wished Eclipse stayed home that day.
Pluto had quickly deducted that Eclipse was Saturn's Star and therefore, a weakness to exploit. Saturn was prepared for Pluto to charge at her that she was taken aback when he instead lunged at Eclipse.
Wasting no time, Pluto had dug his fingers into Eclipse's head and ripped out any wires he could grab.
It was only a few seconds, but it felt like an agonizing eternity to Saturn.
Saturn couldn't really remember what happened after that. One moment she was watching Pluto mangle her wife, the next she was on her ship with Eclipse's body tightly in her grasp.
One of her soldiers tried to get near them only for Saturn to snarl at them. It took her entire council to calm her down and let the medics look over her injuries. They promised to also check on Eclipse and see if she could be brought back.
Waiting in the medical bay was torture. All Saturn wanted to do was to sit by her wife and be there if she woke up. If she woke up? No, WHEN she woke up. The soldiers could bring her back. If not, then Chica or Venus.
No one could bring her back. Venus and Chica had tried again and again, but there's nothing you can do when a personality chip is ripped into shreds. Venus even tried to use the copy she made oh so long ago.
Nothing.
Wish Upon a Star: Something new
Out of desperation, Saturn eventually went to the giant window inside her room. What should've been their room.
When Saturn was only a child, she was told of The Stars granting wishes. Usually, this happened at times of war and it was considered foolish to ask for anything else. But surely her love could be considered important in The Stars judgement.
Saturn then spoke out the wishing incantation, begging The Stars to bring back her wife.
At first, nothing happened.
Saturn was about to leave the room when the Star outside her windows shined brighter than before. Then a small ball of Light floated down.
But instead of her wife, a small chime-like voice rang out. It took but a moment to realize what she was holding in her hand.
This wasn't Eclipse's soul. It was something new.
It was a child.
Saturn then pulled the young star to her chest and wept. Her wife was gone. Eclipse was gone.
And as can be seen by the art, Eclipse comes back lol. I just didn't write it out yet. Her name changed to Electra once she came back.
