Chapter 1 of Cruor is out!

Everything comes back slowly. In pieces.

First the sound of beeping, then the smell of antiseptic so sharp he can taste it on his tongue.

It startles Simon enough that awareness isn't far behind. Everything is dark and he can't tell if his eyes are open or not.

His breathing picks up, the insistent beeping increasing in speed as it does. His chest feels tight and painful, and the air around him feels wrong. It's too open for what he knows to be a metal tomb.

Imagine Pyro coming back not corrupted, but abandoned. Giving even more into his impulses and ambitions after being rescued because he feels pushed out by the “Elemental Trio”. It doesn’t take a genius to see how close they’ve grown in his absence. 

So he just does even more reckless and dangerous stuff because who would care if he got hurt or even died. It’s pretty clear his three “friends” are better without him.

It’s canon that tf!pyro drinks to deal with emotions he doesn’t want to address, so after his return he drinks even more which in turn makes him even more reckless. Maddy Milkberry is the only one who tries to help, The only one who seems to see how much Pyro is suffering. Because she too feels forgotten by her own dorm mates.

(Little thing I wrote following along with this idea under the cut.)

“Who cares anymore, Maddy?!” Pyro’s breath smells like alcohol and ash and makes Maddy scrunch up her nose, “What does it matter what I do!? Nobody cares!”

The sound of her hand striking across his face is loud enough to echo off the walls. She feels the sting in her palm, hot and satisfying. His wide eyes silently stare at her, head turned away slightly, cheek cherry red from her slap.

“I DO, YOU IDIOT!” She practically screams at him, “I care! Of course I care what happens to you, you’re my friend!” The words are out before she can take them back, before she can deny their meaning. 

Pyro, for his part, remains silent and works his jaw.

“Screw the “Elemental Trio” or whatever they’re called. I know they weren’t there for you, I know you feel alone,” Maddy says, biting back tears, “But I’m here. Can’t that be good enough for you? Can’t I be good enough?”
