@Red || Ferriswheels, Jackets and Red Wine
Feeling a deep twisted, knotting feeling in his stomach, something similar to that of nausea yet quite different, something just like ‘having butterflies in one’s stomach’ except intensified. Allowing a sharp shaky breath to escape him, stiffening in his posture, Red felt the urge to move away quickly from the girl, to get away from the anxious feelings muddled in with uncertainty as well as a slight feeling of self-consciousness. What the hell was this? The raven-haired male was always quite certain and confident about himself, he never felt nervous around others, he never fell apart to that extent around everyone else, hell he kept up his composure even around the tortuous and brutal forces of Team Rocket. He never once felt so scattered, nauseous, and light-headed as he did right now. Glancing around sharply, crimson eyes narrowed, carefully searching within the confines of the small and comfy carriage of the massive Ferris Wheel, Red began to attempt to find the source of his strong feelings of anxiety. Was there any danger lurking about here? Were the two about to be assaulted by something deadly hiding within the shadows of the confines of the tiny carriage they were i-
The boy found himself being cut off sharply as the sweet sound of the brunette’s gentle voice reached his ears, prompting him to break off from his sharp and overly analytical glances and give the girl his full attention as she spoke after giggling. Struggling a little, the crimson-eyed male kept his sharp, composed expression plastered onto his face in a desperate attempt to hide away any of those scattered and wild emotions, still churning, and he nodded at Mei’s words, finding his ever-so-carefully placed expression faltering a little and shifting to that of a gentler expression he usually wore around Blue. The words lost in his throat, the sharp and knotting, nausea in the pit of his stomach growing more intense by the second, only proving to suddenly sharpen the moment the girl’s small, warm hand intertwined with Red’s pale, cooler one. Allowing a light gasp of surprise to escape his throat, barely audible to anyone else yet blaringly loud to him, the pale boy then glanced off to the side, a slight tint of faded pink rising to his usually near sickly pale cheeks. What the- What the hell was wrong with him? These reactions, these feelings, this odd sense of comfort he felt with someone who he hadn’t even known for a single month… was he sick or something? At the sound of Mei’s sudden sigh, crimson eyes flickered over only to catch the side of the brunette’s face as it reddened in color considerably. Was she sick too? Huh, no…. no matter how much he repeated it inside his head, the reasoning for these odd actions and feelings seemed to be different then what the champion kept on tellling himself.
Based off what he had heard as well as his own personal experiences back when he was a young and rambunctious, hot-headed young boy on his journey whereas he had developed a slight and brief crush on Kasumi, the only explanation for this scenario could only be that this was a crush. Oh Arceus how these crushes seemed to linger about and cause loads of emotional turmoil for the one afflicted by it. While at the same time, it brought an odd sense of joy and happiness, it also caused for awkward situations, and completely bizarre behaviour, even the a strange boy like Red himself. Carefully intaking breaths, Red thought back to when the two first met each other. Red could remember that upon seeing the girl, he was quite irritated at her being late for their meeting, however at the same time, he automatically felt like he couldn’t really be truly angry with her since she seemed so sweet and cheerful, it was quite the odd and rare occurence for the young hot-tempered male however he ignored it and got straight down to business. During their conversation back then within the small confines of the warm and brightly colored Pokemon Centre at a small wooden table they had managed to pull over. The more time that ellapsed, the more Red had found himself peering at the younger girl, studying her features while continuing their conversation. During their travels in order to complete that one task, the boy found himself feeling a little light in the stomach but, easily shook it off.
How though, he couldn’t avoid this sort of thing, it was apparent that he had a crush on Mei and by the looks of it so did she. Swallowing nervously, Red slightly opened his mouth to say something when with a sudden halt, the carriage screeched and ceased moving causing the brunette to fall into Red with a light thud, their noses only a few centimetres apart, both of the young trainers too shocked to even move away. Huffing lightly, his cheeks heating up slightly more, the raven-haired male leaned in a little closer and did something he hadn’t done in quite some time due to the constant nagging of others. Red lightly and briefly kissed Mei on the lips before pulling away and cooly saying;
“It appears that the Ferris Wheel has made an abrupt stop…. so I supposed that it was a proper opportunity to give a proper greeting since it must’ve seemed rude when I didn’t greet you earlier. It’s a little weird I suppose but, a kiss is like a greeting to me… besides that I suppose I should just be straightforward about this and inform you of this but… um….”
Red quickly found his formal tone fading off, the words he had wanted to say lost in the moment, his anxiety spiking to the point where he couldn’t even speak. Glancing away and onto the floor of the carriage, studying the solid color of the flooring, a few minutes passed by before he roughly muttered “… I like you….”
Part of Mei was worried for Red. He seemed a bit edgy right now, something she hadn’t really noticed up until recently. That’s what the stiffening of his body and shaky breath seemed to tell her. Maybe it was just her. Maybe it was just her and her nerves, desperately running about and making her imagine the situation as a lot worse than she actually assumed. Maybe he thought that she was coming on too strong and didn’t share the light headed feeling that she had. She should have probably had more sugar on her journey- As if that was the case, considering she essentially keeps up one of the highest levels of such sugar known to be survivable to mankind. She tried to let herself relax, focus on the sights from the carriage; no matter how long she could try, the feelings of lightheaded-ness and a strange turning in her stomach would still drag her away from feigning ignorance.
Was there ever the possibility that Mei had feelings for Red? No… Possibly… Yes… She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye; he had really changed since they first met. Red was very formal and always writing notes. He seemed a little odd, different from the average person, but Mei was willing to put that towards his idiosyncrasies. She never expected that much would bring them together at that point; Mei was just helping him travel around Unova. Yet, as they spent time together, Mei could feel herself warming up to the Champion. She could feel herself enjoying his company and wanting to share more about herself. Mei could feel a gap between them shortening and shortening. Maybe, at some point, her feelings had changed for him in the process?
Mei stared at him, her heart racing. She could see the reddening of his cheeks at such a close proximity. They were beginning to match the colour of his eyes. Ah. He was kind of cute when he was embarrassed. Her eyes widened suddenly when he leaned closer, but Mei didn’t want to pull back. Instead, she leaned forward slightly.
As their lips met, though briefly, Mei closed her eyes. It was short and made her wish it was longer. She noticed that she, moments afterwards, was unconsciously touching her lips. She could feel the contact even though they had parted. It was a nice feeling. Mei wasn’t even paying attention to what he was saying. “Ah, yeah, greeting…” she muttered absentmindedly. Her head was just somewhere else, trying to confirm how she felt. Mei was pulled out of her thoughts when she managed to comprehend three words said by Red.
“… I like you….”
She thought over the phrase for a few moments, thinking over every possible way it could mean. “I. I. I.” Mei stammered for a moment, unsure how to reply. She gulped and glanced back at the boy, he was still staring intently at the flooring of the carriage. Mei had no idea but to do what she secretly had wished for a few moments now. Turning his head with one of her gentle hands, Mei paused as if thinking about her actions before leaning in to the boy and kissing him back.
After what felt like forever, Mei pulled away. She was shocked at her boldness and, at the same time, the happiness it brought her. “I-I think I like you too…” She stuttered slightly, before leaning in for another kiss. Another kiss that was fiercer but more loving than the last.
