Alright, fine. You’ve caught me in the one (1) week of the year I willingly surrender to festive cheer. It’s true—I’ve been a Christmas skeptic for ages. The tinsel, the frantic bell-ringing… it’s a whole thing. But we’ll save that gripping psychological drama for another time.
A few winters ago, my producer Antonio “AKI” Chindamo—a man with more ideas before coffee than I have in a year—decided the world needed *another* Christmas album. But not the usual sleigh-bell fare. He wanted to tilt the tree, so to speak. New songs, odd angles, you get it.
He had a notion to rearrange Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song.” You know, *chestnuts roasting on an open fire*… the undisputed heavyweight champion of the season, in my humble opinion. But let’s be real: everyone from Nat King Cole to a choir of celestial angels has already nailed it. What could we possibly add?
Then he played his idea. And suddenly, my brain—usually a repository for forgotten grocery lists—coughed up a glorious memory: the legendary, sublime ZIMBO Trio. Brazilian samba-jazz wizards. *That’s the spirit*, I thought. So I said, “AKI, you madman, ask the Iguazu Acoustic Trio if they’d humor us.”
Miraculously, they said yes. Possibly out of pity. Possibly out of festive obligation. Who knows?
And so, as is now my solemn, once-a-year duty, I hereby present to you our version. I will, with unshakable commitment, bore you with it annually—a digital fruitcake that never gets stale, no matter how hard you wish it would.
However it finds you—whether you’re basking in glow of the tree or hiding from carolers—I send you my very best wishes for a peaceful, serene, and decidedly non-frantic holiday season.
